  2. Shot this wide 8 pt yesterday not long after getting in the stand around 9:30am. He was grunting and following a group of does. He walked into a clear lane at 30yds and I let a 125gr Sonic head fly, hitting him right behind the shoulder with a complete pass through. He gave a slow short run before stopping and falling over. This wasnt his 1st time having an arrow flung at him as you can see the huge gash along his left side belly, took a nice chunk outta his rt leg too. Didnt slow him down a bit. Hes now my best buck to date with any weapon as he beats my 2010 bucks 18" inside width by over an 1" The sharp rear molars tell me hes most likey 2.5 yo. Local: Rockland co. Bow: Martin Nemesis 35

  3. The giant.... It's been an incredibly tough 3, buckless seasons !!! Letting them go and watching them grow is tough, and for me it's even tougher to continuously get nocturnal giants on the cams and barely ever have sightings. I have in the past 5 years of leasing this property, seen some of the biggest deer of my life, mainly on camera, or past or before legal light. So this year was no different. Couple monsters on the cams, always at night. My birthday was November 1st, hunted all day and didn't see much. Sunday my parents wanted me to come over for dinner, which anybody, including them that know me, know I'm hard to commit to anything during daylight hours, October to january especially during the rut. Well, I commited, and went out sun morning and saw nothing but a fawn. got back to the house around 1130 and decided to hang my new cuddy back near a stand I hadn't used yet this year. As I drove the 4 wheeler back to the house I found myself 50 yards and face to face with a giant. I kept driving and he kept watching. I got about 150yards away and stopped to investigate ( and wipe the drool from my mouth) . I noticed he had a doe locked down in some thick stuff. So I headed back to the house to devise a plan. Unfortunately I could barely think let alone concentrate on the perfect kill plan. Either way, j was going to have to decide, family dinner or kill a giant. I'm a new father, and it does have me thinking differently, so I decided I would go to dinner. On our way to my parents I was taking a slow drive and glaring in the woods, and of course, who do I see trying to cross the road but the giant ! I quickly hopped out of the truck and scared him back into the woods. I could barely keep myself together. Since then I have been a wreck. One thing on my mind, the giant. We have all been there ! Had Wednesday off and was in the woods all day except a 30 min crap n sangwich break.... only saw 2 small bucks all day. Hanging my head and thinking I lost my one shot at the giant I still kept my fire and was in the stand this am by 530. Saw nothing but a button buck all day, till 920, when I caught a flash of brown followed by a chunk of antlers. he was on a mission, head down through the golden rod, making his own trail as he went. I really only had one small window to shoot, so I drew back and by the time I was ready to stop him he was hidden under 6' of swamp weeds... let down the bow... he kept coming but slowly heading for the thick stuff and into never ever land...I picked out a spot under some apple trees that would be my hail mary spot... he kept coming... I stopped him...let the rage extreme fly...lumenok glowing I saw the arrow hit him center mass, good height. Ugh. Oh no. i could not tell you what was happening to me for the next half hour. I decided to wait in the stand. Marginal shot, maybe, but was hoping for liver and hoping that nasty extreme would do work on him. so after an episode of tremors and shaking like a Crack head, 30 min had passed. So I got down.....blood !!! The giant had an arrow threw him !! Found a huge spray of blood on impact and could see blood at least 10 yrds up the run he took. Being cautious I decided to give him 2 hours. I did, when I started tracking I could not believe the blood trail. He went a total of 80 yards and piled up. It was a liver/ gut shot, but it worked, and I am one happy hunter. The best part is that after all the exciment calmed down I realized he's not even the big guy I have on the trail cam !! I will be greatful for him but my goodness what a great season I could have with both !! Who knows, who cares. The giant is dead and I am still in disbelief!!! If you just read all of this, thanks, and good luck to you !! Let em go and watch em grow !! 19.5" inside. 10.5" g2 that's 2.25" thick, great mass, just an aweome deer. Feel free to score from pics !

  9. Second of the year with my Matthews in 7R. Hardest shot I've made so far ever in my third year bow hunting. He was angling from my right to behind my stand out of range. As he was finally close enough I had to stand up, turn to about 5 o'clock (not fall), draw, stop him walking, aim and shoot in just about one motion. Found him down 80 yards away.

  12. This looks (from my FAMILY ROOM!) to be a perfect morning. I hunted Tuesday PM-Friday AM and had to come back yesterday afternoon. The weather (once again, from the FAMILY ROOM) seems calm and a nice temp with overcast clouds, perfect conditions. I hope to back at it in a day or so looking for a doe before gun opens. Good luck and if you're reading this in the woods: PUT THE DAMN PHONE DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION!!!!!! (Then post pics of your hunt!!)

  14. That one is tough to understand for me. It is morally wrong for me to enjoy looking at deer and other wildlife at night, and to allow it on the farm I hunt? I guess I am morally corrupted thinking wildlife is for all to enjoy, and not just landowners and the lease holders. I am probably supposed to be especially mad at my neighboring property because they took two mature bucks last year that I saw on my land earlier in the season. Not. Deer hunting will always be a hobby for me that involves friends, family, and even people I have yet to meet. I have not shot a mature buck in two years, but friends and neighbors have, and we enjoy them together. I feel that the more hunters stress about the little things, the closer it gets to being just like a job. There has not been one post condoning shooting deer with a spotlight, yet you keep coming back to poaching. Big difference. Not every spot lighter is looking to hunt or shoot a deer. But, if you want to lose sleep over worrying about someone seeing your deer, be my guest. I'm proud of the fact that over the last 5-10 years, the experienced hunters in my area become comfortable letting bucks walk for the benefit of all. And, at the same time, let the youngsters and newcomers shoot what they want. Some years we shoot a lot of does to fill our freezers. Some years the luck is on our side, and a few will be fortunate enough to score on nice bucks. Guess I rambled on a little bit. I am just more old school than a lot of people on here. I have more fun hunting and comparing notes, sightings, pictures, etc with other people and property owners.

  16. Halloween buck I found last evening at a State Forrest. 30 yds. pass through with 100 grain Rocky Mt. fixed blade. Deer trotted 30 yds. looked around, laid down and that was all-no tracking needed, never had that happen before.Decent body on him but I was too tired to weigh him when I got home.

  22. Just saw a deer running about 100 yds away. I hit the grunt tube which I barely ever use and the deer made a beeline right to me. He got to 27 yards before seeing me sitting against a stone wall. He stayed long enough for a shot and was blowing at me. He was a 1 pointer I have pics of. Too bad he wasn't bigger. Pretty cool having one come running to my call tho! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. At the end of the day it's a deer and to be honest because it's an albino it's a defective deer. A healthy run of the mill deer should be praised more than something that's genetically inferior. I don't see what the uproar is about. He did what he was legally allowed to do and harvested an animal that will probably put food on his table. To threaten a kid for doing what been done in America for centuries is sick.

  42. First archery deer / buck. Been hunting for about 17 years and had a few opportunities but could never connect. I started hunting a new property last year which is almost 70 acres mostly wooded with one big swamp and one small swamp. Saturday I counted 5 different bucks, something I never encountered. First two bucks were a nice basket six and a beautiful ten behind him. They were about to come into a shooting lane but winded me and took off. One hour later another six snuck up on me while I was watching some turkeys and I was able to stand up and take a shot but misjudged the distance and it went under him. Went home for lunch by 12 and came back in by 130. Nothing in site all afternoon then out of nowhere off to my left walking along the swamp came a spike with a six behind him and literally came within 7 yards. They came in so fast and so close that I wasnt even going to attempt a shot because I figured they would see or smell me immediately. The spike spotted me and ran out in front but the six got distracted for a second by the spike and gave me a chance to draw. Unfortunately as soon as I released the deer jumped forward and my shot went further back than I would have liked. Arrow didnt pass through and I watched him running with it for about 50 yards behind the rib cage. Of course he ran into the swamp and I couldnt hear him anymore. I let an hour and a half go by then got down and started looking for blood and of course could not find any. I went to the last spot I saw him and found my arrow with some blood and what looked like intestines. We briefly searched the swamp but it is near impossible at night so we decided to pull out and head back first thing in the morning. Long story short he made it through the swamp and found him on the other side with a gut/liver shot. First archery deer/buck. No monster but it felt great. Lots of big bucks under my belt with a gun but this one feels more accomplished.

His right antler looks like it has one monster brow tine but if you look closely the brow is up against my hand. That's almost like a second beam on that side.

  44. Killed an 8pt buck tonight. I'm going to be crippled up as I had a long uphill drag and I swore I'd never drag another. He's probably a 2.5 year old I'm guessing. I'll pull the lower jaw and see what the DEC has to say about it. One of the biggest bucks weight wise I've ever killed, actually the third heavyset I think, he dressed out at 172 lbs. The drag was about 200 yards. I took this pic as soon as I found him, no hero shots in the field. I'll grab some pics for the contest tomorrow.
