I took a drive over to my favorite spot to check out city deer,I posted some pics last year from the same spot.

Most here are passionate about bow hunting and the way they do it , don't sweat it. Myself I have no trouble killing deer in Bow including my first year in the late '80's when I had zero idea how to bow hunt, did not pay attention to the wind, scent control and so on, one stand which I used every time I went. Killed a buck out of it. I put practicing out of a stand way ahead of off a roof. On a roof your foot placement is wide like on the ground, there is no trunk to get it the way of your arm if you try to turn, no harness to deal with, you don't learn if the stand makes noise if you move in it etc. Yes try to have all the work done way ahead of the time, but slipping in and shooting a few arrows is not a big deal to,me. Sure try to be scent free as you can . It's no different then hunting out of it other then a few shots, something I do,out of each stand each time I hunt it. I always shoot two field points out of my stand, I find it a great confidence builder to,know I can hit that stick or spot on the trail from my stand.

I realized that I completely forgot to post this. Back in the early spring I finally took my 2013 buck head to be cleaned up and whitened. I got it back and it looked great. Last year while I was out scouting, I found some 100+ year old hemlock fence posts that were fallen down on the farm that I took him on, so I got the idea to use one of those, along with the old, rusty barbed wire as a way to mount the skull. Heres how it turned out, looks pretty good I think.

Opening day in NH today for Archery Deer / Turkey but temp's in the 80's till Sunday & 70's for the remainder of the 10 day forecast usually highs in the 60's this time of year been hotter in Sept. this year then it has all summer Still going out this afternoon but will probably be looking for Turkeys

I heard that's due to the fact that drivers are know refusing to hit does.......apparently they're holding out for bucks, preferably 2.5 to 3 year olds.

For me, it all depends on how the land is used. If human activity is normal, like on a working farm, etc, then I dont sweat it. If its land that is normally never touched, then it might cause an issue.

Practice shots from the stand? Just for that stay out of woods, lanes should of been trimmed month or more ago, if you want to shoot elevated put a ladder up and shoot off roof.. neighbors always complain that all the deer seem to leave right before the season, well I tell them 2 weeks before you run around on your atvs,hammer treestands,cut lanes, start a fire, slam truck doors, yell around the cabin, let your dog run around....it's quite at your place all year then bam...I'd leave too.... I do not enter my hunting areas starting after labor day weekend. Every one else pushes the deer to my nice quiet scent free woods....

Some of the more than 110 permanent ground stands that I have built over the years. Some of these are over 20 years old, and just refreshed a bit each year. My "almost guaranteed" gun stand Hard to see the stand, of course that's the idea ...lol. Shooting lane for above stand Some stands are already put there for me...lol: This tree is 4' in diameter This old beech overlooks a mineral seep. Almost like a treestand overlooking that "seep" below.

I heard the DEC cancelled the rut for 2015 as a means of population control. It wont even happen this year.

The worse day of hunting is still better than the best day at work. I know it's been said many times. But how true it is. Good luck to you out there!

30-30 chambered Winchester model 94... dad's gun he got his first deer with and then had to track it down as he sold it. many years later I had it in my hands and took my first deer with it, a 6 pointer. probably 2.5 years old. my younger brother ended up using it to get his first deer too.

You would think , they have a nice lawn for sure. When i got home and showed my wife the pictures she said "wow, nice lawn"

Awesome bucks, but they will most likely die of old age if not hit by a car. With little or no hunting access it is cool, to at least see what a few years of age can do for a whitetail buck.

I shot at my range this afternoon as a matter of fact. Two guns went with me; my 260 Remington that has a fancy stock, barrel, decent 3.5-10 Leupold scope, Talley mounts and all machined and screwed together by a very competent gunsmith from PA and my NULA 243. Most of my shooting was done at 200 yards but at the end I shot 5 with the 260 at 100 yards and here's the group...................... I'd call the one on the FAR right a flyer and the rest are right at 3/4". The flyer bums me out but WTH........the black square is approx. 1" I shoot off of a great bench, with a great front & rear rest. I suck though......... My 243 on the other hand is 5/8"-3/4" all day and out shot the 260 and that isn't a good thing! Both guns are shooting Barnes TTSX slugs; 120's in the 260 and 80's out of the 243. Both are hunting guns of course and accuracy is important but I'm just don't have the time I used to to wring out all kinds of loads at the range. Talking about field accuracy...........I would be last place if we were shooting an offhand competition. I really suck at that. BUT.........give me a tree to at least rest my for-end hand on and I'll improve by 1000%. I NEVER ever shoot "offhand" unsupported at a deer unless he is wounded or inside of 50 yards and even then I'd rather grab a sapling in a heart beat for a rest. Carry on............................

What is everyone opinion on this I think it's ******** especially on long island they should open the season from sept 1 -jan31 not put restrictions on bucks because whoever is patterning a monster all summer long isn't going to get him early October in his feed patters! I actually used the recipe that was published in the Outdoor News a while back by Hank Shaw. 2.5 pounds venison, boar, bear... I used venison 10 ounces of pork fat 3 tbs kosher salt 1/2 tspn instacure #1 1 tspn sugar 2 tspn black pepper 1 tspn nutmeg 2 tspn caraway seed 1/4 tspn celery seed 1/3 cup ice water I of course multiplied ingredients to make 20 pounds ground with the fine die mixed in ingredients stuffed in sheep casings smoked with cherry until they hit 160 degrees internal temp. let them hang in a 40 degree cooler for a week to dry out

Impossible!!!! They are as thick as fleas out here. Or they are just getting much better at crossing at the deer crossing signs...lol

If you think you'll screw an area up before season with one intrusion... then by all means stay out. You'll have plenty of time to screw things up once season begins while your out there for days at a time. If you're confident in your skill level to be out there at this stage of the game, then it likely wont make much difference once season rolls around. I never could stand the timid approach to scouting or just being in the woods as deer season draws closer.

Hate to blow all the theories out of the water but it all depends on your area. It can change in a second and be a week to 2 weeks different. Every year I see people saying the rut is on full force and I see nothing then a week later I see it and so on. Best way to see the rut and know when it is, is to be out there hunting!!

I agree they do get brittle but work great in a pinch or if you don't have a jig

In defense to my earlier comment, not to say I don't go out in windy days or (light) rainy days either. I listened to the wind howl and the acorns drop all afternoon. Took this guy at the end of the day today.

Thanks guys. Definitely resting up. Going to miss the bow opener this year which I have mixed feelings about but focus needs to be on health for sure. Have an appointment on Oct 2nd to get my stint out, then my nieces wedding on the 3rd. Hoping for some good luck coming my way soon.

Not brainwashed- ethical. If your gun shoots a 3-5" off a rest at a hundred yards your likely to shoot a 9-15" mess wo a rest and elevated blood pressure. Not fair to the animal. This is why openin day of gun I go real deep into the private land oak trees I have access too. Everyone walking in after the sun is up and leaving early push all the deer down to the area I'm in, it turns into there bedding area during gun season!

to be quite honest I really didn't watch it..just kind fast forwarded it along. I gotta go back and watch with the audio on.

It appears Jerome got enough messages about his fake picture where he claimed he got the photo on his deer cam he setup on a buck and took it down. Why people need attention so bad they make crap up is beyond me.

Well I never got a chance to look for the keys this weekend. Friday morning I was driving to work and started getting really bad lower left abdominal pain. I got to work and was drenched in sweat and doubled over in pain. I actually drove to the nearest ER only to be admitted and scheduled for kidney stone surgery. Wow what a surprise series of events that turned out to be. Stone was to large to pass so surgery was only option. They also found my sugar was way out of whack so I also have to control that going forward. 3 days in the hospital was no fun. I have a few days off from work so maybe I can look for those Damn keys tomorrow. I will repeat the title of my original post, Gettin old stinks!!

I've used those before. they tend to get brittle if you leave them in too long. they worked alright though. I used NAP ones. I take and stick the odd fletch were I want to index the vanes with the head and so it shrinks to the same resting spot from shaft to shaft.

Those same idiots are going to 'teach" poor safety no mater the age. I am so tired of everything being set up for the lowest common denominator.

Not for me. That is the complete opposite of how I like to hunt. Though it is legal and many deer are killed this way each year. And some hunters are very good at successfully organizing large drives. If we do drive deer, it's only a two man drive. With one sitting down wind and the other walking SLOWLY with the wind at his back. Usually about 50/50 on who gets the shot. I just don't like to hunt with a bunch of hunters. But that's just me!

That's correct. The method you read about(not the one you are currently using) is called the ladder. It's basically shooting rounds in increasing powder charge until you start seeing a range of charge grouping together. Most do it in .1-.3 charge increments. Usually one load per charge. I'm going to get into reloading one of these days. It just seems smart. That's true. The only thing that sucks is its a 3 hour round trip plus tolls just to get to a place I can legally hunt.

They have been very effective for me. They are a one and done (or replace blades) head. It helps to shoot heavy poundage. I wouldn't use them if I was shooting 50 or even 60lb bows.

I know a few kids that I would gladly share a stand with that are under our current age fr hunting,but then again I know a few adults that shouldn't be allowed to touch a gun either.I think there should be a "50 state general gun handling safety course" for youngsters that want to do it.I know when I went through my daughters class I realized that its almost impossible to fail unless you flat out are stupid or don't listen.Any person should be able to pass this course.Some kids aren't ready at 16 years old when some have the respect a gun deserves at 8 years old.

The fact its not temporary, like logging, will make changes to their behaviors, patterns, and maybe even beds. Development is a game changer. They'll adapt just fine for the most part, but you will need to be aware of that adaptation.

I remember hearing that only 5% of NY hunters take two bucks, so it wouldn't make any difference if we went to a one buck rule
