  1. Just a casual observer, but are you two sure you're reading 22Plinker correctly? I read his post as saying he wanted to "outhunt" it, as in compete with it.

I hope the thought of this night haunts them the rest of their lives. RIP Tyrone Woods Glenn Doherty Ambassador Chris Stevens Sean Smith Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. I noticed that I was walking on average of 1.5 to 2 miles on a short loop when out targeting squirrels. I decided to help burn off some of those christmas pounds I would park at the far end of the grounds and walk to the far end to start my loop. This also had the added benefit of providing new unexplored places to walk through. Now I have noticed my walking average is closer to 4.5 miles on average. While its not working out, its a start

  9. The Appalachian Eagle Project in NYS started camera trapping as part of our Golden Eagle/Scavenger research the day after muzzleloader season ended - 12/23. Things were slow then suddenly one site in Delaware County had a burst of activity. These photos are mostly from Delaware. Some may be from Otsego. The bear could be a big problem as deer carcasses are scarce. Bear removing one of the two carcasses it took. Bear resting after clearing out our bait. 12. The only things they left out that were on that list were the DNA on the car and the people on the jury with relatives in the Sheriffs department. The rest was in there. I dont know all the facts surrounding the case, but from what I saw in the documentary, there was enough to make it reek of the county doing anything it could to get retribution against the guy for the lawsuit and embarrassment of their sloppy work being brought to public light. It was an interesting show to watch in any case. Granted, the guy was no saint, but just making some mistakes and being kind of an a-hole doesnt mean you deserve to be convicted of a crime you didnt commit. If the allegations from his ex were true, it wouldnt be hard for her to prove via police reports, and threats from a phone call from jail would have been recorded. Im sure those will come out if they are in fact true.

  14. My wife read the book a year ago. The book and the movie were a direct account of what happened from the guys that were there. Three of them have come out publicly. Others, I believe, have chosen to remain anonymous. I'm sure some of the movie had to be interpreted simply because Sean Smith and the Ambassador were not alive to give their account. The movie does not get into the politics of it. Just what happened to those people leading up and including the horrific 13 hours they had to endure. It does state in the beginning of the movie it is a true story. If you want to see a story about bravery this is a must see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. Bundy isn't a Patriot of any sorts, he is looking for attention and a hand out. He used the Hammonds as the initial reason but they wanted nothing to do with Bundy. Then they claim to do it for the ranchers and many in the town want them to leave. Woodchuck if you believe things you see on the internet I caution you to take anything you see with a grain of salt, especially things posted on this site. I say hand the land over to Bundy and then hand him a tax bill. He is a joke/welfare rancher, not a patriot.

  17. You resort to name calling instead of keeping it a civil debate. Remember everyone is still allowed to have an opinion. Wildcat, you and Uptown are alot alike. Your opinions on almost everything are the opposite of mine. I could resort to name calling in every reply to one of your posts but I'm smart enough to know it does nothing to further the conversation. I may slip sometimes but in general I hold back. It takes balls to stand up to the government. This militia will be arrested or carried out in body bags. Anyone can armchair quarterback this but unless we are there we won't know the whole story. Myself, I will take video evidence posted by citizens over the main stream media's garbage , so called reporting all day. Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

  21. Thanks all for the comments. First time using this taxidermist, but have followed him a few years as he's gained a reputation of quality and quick turn around times(about 6 mos, which is very good for "exotic" game). Dennis Harris, The Artistry of Wildlife did the mount. We talked basic outline of what I wanted and let him work out the rest of the details. He did several mounts for me at the same time as this one. There's more than a few outfitters who have private property hunts where 4x4 vehicle access can get you up where Tahr like to hang out to make a stalk. I chose hunting on foot, but private land, where success rates do run higher. Still struck out on Chamois though, and hunting is never gauranteed. Day rates run very similar to Africa plains game that your familiar with, some is high fence, some free ranging like this Tahr. Flight is like the direct to J'berg......tediously long. Layovers is what kills me, some time at LAX and again at Auckland. But New Zealand was great and had a terrific time; would like to go again.

  22. MRJvp You are correct that a good percentage actually voted for Cuomo. The point I was trying to make was a very high percentage of gun owners did not vote. I don't have the numbers but the election had the lowest voter turnout ever and if the gun owners would have stepped up and voted the safe act would probably be history. Just trying to get the point across that if we don't stand up and do our part no one will step up for us. We gun owners have the voting power and are over due to use it!

  25. In reality, the only ones who find it racist are the ones who want it to be racist. When a racist displays the Confederate flag, that doesn't make it racist flag. It makes it a symbol being misused by a racist.

  26. I never said hunting a hawk, I said OUT HUNTING a hawk. The last couple times I've been out there a hawk has taken two rabbits I was about to shoot at... so my reference is to beat the hawk this time out. Perhaps before you get all up in arms you may want to actually read instead of jumping to conclusions.

  28. They do? Personally, I think anyone who thinks it's a racist symbol has no education regarding the south or the War of Aggression. There are plenty of Southern Blacks who admire and display that flag. As far as another civil war goes, there are plenty of real Americans in this land that have removed themselves from the politics and election process in this country, simply because it has become a farce. But a civil war would be completely real to many of them, and I believe they would get involved with gusto if given the chance to force constitutional principles on the leftists without fear of going to jail.

  29. This is another one of those areas where we have new technology entering the scene with way too little data or empirical information to make any kind of educated judgment. Consider for a moment how many decades of proven results it has taken for hunters to get confidence in each caliber to establish solid expectations and confidence in each deer caliber. It should not be surprising that when this new weapon comes on the scene with performance specs that are so far short of traditional norms, there would be some skepticism. Calibers and loads are a hotly contested subject even now, and along comes somebody (a government body at that) that is pushing an energy delivery system that is far below anything ever considered adequate. I don't see how it could be anything but controversial. So given enough time perhaps it will prove itself adequate. But until all those mass trials (years of results) by hunters, the question of whether it should be considered to be a good clean deer harvesting weapon, the arguments will go on. I just hope I don't crack a tooth on some projectile that couldn't make it any farther than half way through one of the roasts that somebody shot up before I got to the next deer that I shoot ..... lol. Sorry, but such jokes are going to have to be put up with until the air rifle eventually wins confidence in the deer hunting world (if it indeed ever does).

  34. I've thought about seeing it. anyone check accuracy or how much Hollywood may have twisted things? it looks like a good movie. I'm just not really that up to date on the issue. I just know people dropped the ball to send in help. a US consulate/embassy shouldn't ever feel unsafe. at any point if security could be compromised then any one should have full US military support at their aid and be plenty capable to stand their ground. I mean these places are put their to help the host country out by supporting US Americans traveling and interacting with these other countries. it's there in peace. when crap hits the fan a US citizen abroad should have no hesitation these are safe havens.

  37. Basically they don't like surprises when it comes to guns. You have no duty to report it, but some will appreciate you telling them so,your choice . Myself if I'm hunting and have only one long gun it rides uncased on my back seat action open and no visible ammo, they look in your back seat as the approach the car, so,hands on wheel , window down no sudden reaching is my policy . I've never told them about my handguns , but my wallet is out and on the dash before they reach the car , if you have to reach anywhere near your gun , you may want to,mention it again your choice. Two summers ago coming home from Old Forge I got lazy and since I was not stopping did not put my 9mm on and placed it in glove box, my registration and insurance card are in center council . I get stopped by NYSP , he walks up my wife opens glove box and reaches in ... I thought about yelling " she's got a gun" ! Instead I just told her where the papers were , but I never had to produce them . That was a close call even though she knows where the papers are as it was her car and saw me place gun in box. It stays on my hip now.

  44. Don't forget, round is a shape Not a very good one to have though. My wife and I have been fasting this month. I actually started a little before new years. I felt horrible, tired all the time, not wanting to do anything. Cut out all sweets and with the fast I'm only eating vegetables, fruits, grains, etc. (Daniel fast more or less). For drinks its either water or coffee- I will NOT give up coffee, I work nights and it's my little cup of life and happiness while I'm working. Anyways, I've lost over 10lbs and gained energy and ambition back. I plan on keeping the diet for the most part and adding some kind of exercise to that as well.

  46. No, it really is not right for me to have even tried to answer this question since my motives, challenges, and expectations for hunting are way beyond antlers. Yes, the fact is that I am content with just about any deer. I like challenges in my hunting, but I am not really into the "my rack is bigger than your rack" game. For me it is more about the quality of the hunt and the overall experience than he quality of the deer. The two deer that gave me the biggest thrills and sense of accomplishment was my 1st bow killed deer, a mere buck with 6" spikes. And my second most impressive and fulfilling hunt resulted in a doe that I took at 8 feet with a recurve. The rack had nothing to do with either of those. So, I guess I measure success a bit differently than most, and way differently than the premise of the question. I like big antlers, but they really have nothing to do with why I hunt. And so I am disqualified from answering the question with the criteria specified.

  47. I agree with you and Law on this. Last year I shot a doe from the ground at 27yds (measured later) with a recurve and it was pure joy to see the arrow hit EXACTLY where I wanted it to. I was so pumped at that shot, the fact that it was a doe made no difference.
