That's another reason sardines are good for you. Being such a short-lived fish, they don't store the contaminants such as mercury, pcbs and other junk like big fish do. It is much more of a danger with large, long lived species like swordfish or the bigger tuna species.5 points

All of this kind of nonsensical legal proposals are simply additions to the campaign of gun owner harassment. None of them will have any impact on gun crime and they all know it. They are interested in gun control, not crime control, and don't let them fool you about that.5 points

I only built about a dozen basses and 2 dozen guitars. Only one instrument is unaccounted for that I'm aware of, and the vast majority of them are still in use in the Buffalo area. I think Rob Derhak was using one of mine when he was featured in Bass Player magazine several years ago, but it's not likely that anyone would remember my company. This is a simple Strat-style body I did for a friend who is now the master distiller at the Buffalo Distillery.5 points

I love turkey hunting, but to me it's a sport that I do little prep for. For new properties I'll walk them once or twice in early to mid april and look for roosting trees and small openings and fields where I can setup. But what I really enjoy about turkey is getting in early, setting up in the dark and calling for a little during light. Then I can get up and move and try some locators or move to other spots. I'm not a spot and stalk deer guy so I really enjoy "scouting as I hunt" style to turkey.4 points

What I stated was in no way narrow minded. Listen here Chief you shouldn't blame those who take the risk to become entrepreneurs and actually succeed in their endeavors and subsequently become rich for the losers who for whatever reason decide not to take any chances and as a result are making peanuts in comparison. Explain to me how it is fair to tax success and reward mediocrity. I am all ears. If you can lay out a convincing argument then I may be persuaded to believe your view, but until that is the case taking money from one group to give to another is completely absurd. It's something called personal responsibility, I suggest this country starts to learn about it. You Can't Beat My Meat!4 points

The DEC is saying no change in the deer regulations for up to the next 5 years, and the possible removal of the doe only reg. in some WMU’s. That’s ok with me.3 points

My favorite spots are bedding and browsing thickets but antlers can turn up anywhere. There's no right or wrong way to look for antlers as long as you're out there looking. You know the deer habits in your area probably better than anyone can tell you on a forum like this. Follow the heaviest sign to and from bed to feed and every trail in between. I like to think I have a "fast eye", meaning that I can identify an antler with just a quick glimpse against all the clutter on the forest floor. I zip along at a pretty good pace now. Starting out you may need to take your time and really pick apart every nook and cranny for that one piece of that jumps right out at you. Good luck!3 points

Had one of these but our November storm wiped it out But on a serious note I think Wooly will offer some great info. I only stumble on maybe one a year by dumb luck. Here's one I found a couple of years ago. I looked intensely for the other half but no luck3 points

I like them from time to time. I can get tired of them quick though if I eat more than once or twice a month. No fancy flavors or brands for me..., just straight up minnows in their own natural coffin and embalming fluid,lol3 points

Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here...with a big ribbon on his head! And I want to look him straight in the eye, and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit...where's the Tylenol? (Clark W. Griswold)" -3 points

Must suck to get the whole 54 yards from someone. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems3 points

"The whole ten yards" is another old military phrase… Not as old as this one tho. During WWII fighter planes were armed with 50 cal machine guns. The belts of ammo for those guns were 10 yards long. If I pilot really ripped into an enemy plane, he would give it "the whole ten yards" (of ammo) or he all he had.3 points

Every sailing ship had to have cannon for protection. Cannon of the times required round iron cannonballs. The master wanted to store the cannon-balls such that they could be of instant use when needed, yet not roll around the gun deck. The solution was to stack them up in a square based pyramid next to the cannon. The top level of the stack had one ball, the next level down had four, the next had nine, the next had sixteen, and so on. Four levels would provide a stack of30 cannonballs. The only real problem was how to keep the bottom level from sliding out from under the weight of the higher levels. To do this, they devised a small brass plate ("brass monkey") with one rounded indentation for each cannonball in the bottom layer. Brass was used because the cannonballs wouldn't rust to the "brass monkey", but would rust to an iron one. When temperature falls, brass contracts in size faster than iron. As it got cold on the gun decks, the indentations in the brass monkey would get smaller than the iron cannonballs they were holding. If the temperature got cold enough, the bottom layer would pop out of the indentations spilling the entire pyramid over the deck. Thus it was, quite literally, "cold enough to freeze the balls off a "brass monkey. "3 points

After working outside on summer weekends, it was common for my dad to set down in the evening, break-up a slice of bread into a coffee cup, pour in a half cup of milk, and open a can of sardines. Alternating between a bite sardine and a spoon of bread and milk, he was a happy man. He occasionally shared a sardine or two with me and I'd have my cup of bread and milk as well. I thought it was okay then and 2 or 3 times a year I'll do the same even how. In fact I just put sardines on my grocery list. Thanks for the inspiration.2 points

I love the ol' killin' trees! I have 2 spots like that where I know where the birds are roosted every may and I set up at the same tree every year. One spot is tricky because the birds roost off the property we have permission to hunt and we are on the low side of the hill so they naturally like to fly down and head up the hill to the field but between my uncle and I, we get 1-2 birds a year from that same tree. The other spot I have only hunted for 2 years and it is our 100% honey hole! It's a 1/2 mile hike to the top of the hill and is bordered on three sides by the neighboring property of a couple hundred acres and I have permission to hunt a little part of that land too. Its a nice grassy ridge in open hardwoods and we have killed birds on every single trip so far from the same spot!2 points

I don't see a reason to have them now. Someone who is going to do illegal things, isn't going to have their back tags on anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

A couple of my hunting buddies put theirs on their back packs too. I just play musical chairs with my back tag on my jackets and vests during the time of year when i'm hunting multiple species on rotation each week lol2 points

You having a backtag on isn't once ever going to stop a ECO from interrupting a hunt.2 points

I love them! I get the kind that's skinless, boneless and in olive oil. I like to mash them up and add balsamic vinegar, chopped onion, garlic powder, onion powder, parsley and sea salt that I brought over from the area my family is from in Montenegro. I'll eat it twice a week if I can. Great source of protein for after the gym and omega 3's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I love sardines. Any brand, although I bough a cheap brand a few times,( can't remember the brand but the can had a blue label) They were way too big and boney. They looked like something they throw to the seals at marine world. I like those canned Kipper snacks too.2 points

My girlfriend thinks I'll like it for a few years. She does know me pretty well. I've hunted: Antelope in WY, and NE. Whitetails in KS, NE, and IA (IA is very overrated IMO...I lived there. They just shoot a LOT of deer and the culture is to get as much recognition as you can for a big one. Hell, I know of a whitetail that scored 209 that never got any publicity at all. Some states have pretty big deer, but no one turns them in). Mule Deer in AZ (the strip used to be OTC if you didn't know), NE, and CO. Birds in CA, NM, AZ, CO, NE, IA, SD, ND, NV, MN, and UT. I also took off and found a legal sheep during season in one of the unlimited units in MT, but I did my homework, flew the unit, etc. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I didn't have the money to have someone help me pack it out. I'm probably more proud of that little feat than anything I've ever shot. I'm looking really forward to the fishing and access to different ethnic foods (THAT's important to me). No one would ever think, but the great plains are full of good ethnic places. Hell, I ate at a super good indian resturant at a rest stop in Overton, NE last week. I've already got a bunch of points in ME, VT, and NH for moose, but I'm not planning on that. Maybe I'll do a reservation hunt for an eastern moose. Like I said, I play the points game really hard. I've got one below max right now for antelope in WY, so I'll be hunting the red desert sometime soonish. Eating beans in college and grad school while throwing money around on points is working out for me. Black Bear will be pretty neat too, as well as ruffled grouse. I didn't get a mule deer this year. There weren't any very old ones on the ranch, and we didn't get a crack at any huge ones where I did hunt. I was hunting for a booner. I saw one that would have gone mid 180's, but couldn't ever get a crack at it. Lots of bighorn sheep though, and I shot a merriams turkey. I'm still pretty jazzed up about the whitetail. There were two on the property that would have been booners, but this smaller one is the one I really wanted. I've been passing on him for about 5 years and I have lots and lots and lots of trail camera photos of him thoughout the years. I think it will be good for me to move out there. Something different. I've been feeling a bit stagnent lately.2 points

This is what you will see from me in response to uncalled for nasty posts....be them at me or others...this will be to the attempted derailing posts. Now all I can ask is Other members out there that are tired of what a few have been doing and even sucking others into, I now see some get it, will join me in this. Stop or Just stop...it's a powerful word, very difficult to argue with and if said enough times by enough people could stem the behaviors we are seeing. If it is seen and done enough times I see it as impossible that the point won't get across For the many pages of complaining of the nasty "BS" many have mentioned, I think this is the only solution thus put forth. I do hope you join me in trying. I do how ever understand exactly what the initial reaction will be taken to this idea, as do you...but I think those of you that want things to change will be able to get past it.2 points

I go on lots of other sites.....Bowsite, Archerytalk, crossbow nation, dootalk just to name a few. I post on this one most often. It def happens on other sites. trapping is hunting. I'll say it for the final time because in the end it doesn't really matter anymore. I do not enjoy being a member of a site that condones hate speech. I'm catholic. I love my neighbor even if I don't agree with their views. I enjoy coming here to learn and talk about hunting. When I'm skimming the new content, I'm bothered that we as a minority group in NY will put up with topics such as: Nasa has Muslim outreach program... Justice Antonin Scalia DEAD - Liberals Celebrate, Claim He's Rotting in Hell Iran mocks captured US Navy sailors San Diego Plan To Ban The Term "Founding Fathers" Thwarted all on the first page. If a muslim in NY wants to get into hunting I welcome them to our heritage which is dwindling everyday. If a liberal wants to feel welcome at this site because they're a hunter with stories and knowledge to spread then I want them too to feel welcome here. If you're too blind to see the blatent hate and negativity some hunters are spreading here than my time typing this is lost. Everyday we lose young hunters to iphones, videogames and tv. Everyday we're losing hunting land to developments, everyday we're losing public land access and having the DEC regulate out forms of hunting we once knew and love. Everyday we lose more and more of our gun rights. So why again I ask you, do we want to further splinter a group needing to be tighter and more unified than ever? Or as one member suggested, start a new hunting ny forum. So you ask then, Belo. Why even come to this site? I've tried leaving because of this nonsense, but I have a strong passion for hunting and enjoy this place for 95% of what it offers. I hope it's clear my passion to remove or at least remove the political section from the main feed is based on my desire to keep this place growing and a source for uniting hunters. I have very strong political views. Many of which is shared by the 3 muskateers. But this isn't the place to copy and paste them. I come here to talk hunting. otherwise http://lmgtfy.com/?q=new+york+political+forum2 points

VJP , you are correct here...each belt of .50 cal was 27 feet long...If you used all your ammo, you gave 'em the whole 9 yards.. Of course, a P51 Mustang had six .50 cals, each one with a 27 foot belt..2 points
