  3. I wouldn't purchase a used scope off Ebay but I will be very surprised if a forum member sells something to another forum member (especially one like Pygmy who's name I see all the time) that doesn't function...And even if I do get it and it doesn't function I will assume it did when it was removed from his rifle how every long ago that was and he wasn't aware of it.....

  4. A while back i posted a thread asking who makes a nice silver scope. I ended up springing for the Leupold vx-2 and so far i love it. Just put it on tonight so i have yet to use it, but here it is on my Remington Ultimate ML. It's mounted on Leupold dual dovetails.

  6. haha No girl involved. So here goes. Short version. My dad and I got into Yoga about 20+ years ago and began experimenting with vegetarianism since Yoga is about compassion and supposedly a plant-based diet is better for you. Well, about a month and half ago my father passed away from a heart attack at the young age of 69 years old despite seemingly taking care of his health (and karma). This made me confused and angry, so I renounced Yoga and decided that it's better to just live 'normally' since our actions are relatively meaningless - when it's your time to go, it's your time to go. Anyway, during the week I stayed at my aunt's house to bury my dad, she fed me meat (Greek family) and out of politeness/convenience, I did not refuse. I began feeling very strong physically and enjoyed this way of eating. I have eaten meat ever since and decided that I would eventually like to hunt and fish my own meat for health (maybe even 'compassion') reasons. I hope this all doesn't make me appear to be a loon... because I can imagine that it does. haha

  8. I am a big train affectionado and have ridden many scenic railroads and high speed and/or long distance passenger trains here and abroad. The shame of the American railroad system which was second to none in the early 1900's is that through mutual collaboration between all the truck and car companies they effectively killed long distance passenger train travel and left a gasping heavily subsidized freight system. Semi trucks especially cause more damage to the roads they use than the road maintenance tax they pay incorporated into their fuel. If (a big if) trains were more heavily used for long distance hauling the result would be more privately owned local haulers operating out of major train hubs, freight cost would be lower as well as fuel consumption and lower road maintenance cost, greater highway safety.

  12. I have 4 full mounted birds (Eastern, Osceola, Rio, and Merriam's), as well as a garage full of fans. I usually make a cardboard plaque to support the fan and hot glue the tail and spurs to the plaque. I'm pretty much out of room in my garage, my wife calls it turkey wallpaper. Any new fans will probably get hung up in the shack at hunting camp and the mice can have at them. I did discover a plastic hanger device called "The Fan Dangler" which allows you to hang the fans upside down, I have room for a few more. If I shoot a jake I'll give the tail to someone for their decoy or switch mine out.

  18. ...and wants to learn how to hunt. It is a long story, but life experiences and ideals have led me here. I live in Lindenhurst, NY (Long Island) and would like to learn about hunting and fishing. I have absolutely no clue. I am hoping someone can take me under their wing and show me the ropes. Thank you all for having me. God bless.

  19. Maytom. ...the generator itself cost $3000. That doesn't include material and labor. Had to change cable coming into house. Move meter to outside. Run gas line across basement and then change direction of gas line. All total about 10 grand. It's worth it for peace of mind . We have a high water table and under ground springs so we get a lot of water to the sump pump. Average about 3 power outages a year. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

  24. I am impressed that anyone's mind even works that way to come up with such a concept. It is totally unconventional, but fits the definition of art bout as perfectly as you can. But it's true. After all that work and creativity who is going to destroy it all to burn the wood?

  28. My hound is a house dog too. Though not allowed on the couch. I don't want anyone to think I'm one of those guys that doesn't respect their dogs. They are alive, they deserve respect, there is a bond, they are pets (some more than others). But they are a tool for hunting just like your gun or the correct size wrench.

  30. Abolish the EPA entirely? No. Drastically reduce the bureaucratic size of the EPA, and restrict the scope of it's power? Absolutely, yes. The EPA has become an unelected lawmaking body within the federal government. That's wrong, and should be stopped.

  33. sometimes we take deer hunting to serious. sometimes we put too much emphasis on bad man made laws and equate that to ethical or non-ethical hunting. I'm not condoning poaching, there are truly some bad people out there. But the internet is full of lawyers and people so high and mighty that I'm sure they live in a glass house. deer hunting is meant to be an exciting past time that also helps to provide food for our families. We get so bent out of shape over rack size that it has ruined family and friend relationships. I once worked with a guy that stopped hunting with his brothers and cousins because his uncle cused out his son for shooting a bb (he was 16). Moving down south and hunting public land has really opened my eyes to non-trophy hunting and made me appreciate the sport that much more.

  37. Based on a Phade recommendation, I purchased a Browning BTC-7FHD primarily to take video at eagle research sites. Much of the video was of very high quality. Some was foggy, like what you would expect from moisture in the air. This problem was on and off. Then in one video - a foggy video - a raven bumped the camera. It instantly became perfectly clear. That would not happen if it was moisture on the lens. I returned the camera under warranty. Browning sent me either a used or refurbished unit to replace it. I bought a new camera that did not work properly from day one. I expected them to fix it (unlikely), or replace it with a new camera. The used camera seems to be working fine. I just find this to be less than adequate.

  40. Welcome to the site! Congrats on wanting to explore the great outdoors, fishing and hunting, yep you came to the right site! First I would get a fishing license. Small and large game you need to take a class to get a safety certificate that will get you a license to hunt. Next you would need to choose if you want salt water, fresh water, small game or large game. Fishing is easy to start. Charter boats are great for salt water. Hunting you would need to choose game and weapon. Small game is easy to start off with but big game is better to have a mentor. Most important would be to go to the DEC web site, they are a wealth of information. http://www.dec.ny.gov/ I am interested in mentoring but would need more info. Not to get to detailed on a public forum but are you born and bread NYer? How far can you hike? Can you drag a 100 lbs? Can you swim? And what kind of BB gun did you have?

  41. I came across an article last week (somewhere?) and didn't bookmark it. Apple's CEO Tim Cook explained in detail what was going on, and why he was refusing to cooperate. I'll look for the article when I get a chance, but the gist of it went something like this: The FBI has been asking Apple for well over a year to provide encryption-breaking assistance on about 100 phones in cases across the country. Most of those cases have nothing to do with terrorist activities. The FBI is pushing hard on this particular phone because of the sensational nature of the case. The FBI consulted with Apple immediately after they took possession of the phone related to the San Bernardino case, and Apple immediately gave them advice on how to safeguard the information on the phone so that they wouldn't screw anything up. The FBI ignored Apple's advice.
