This one was taken in the afternoon around 4pm. back in 2013, think November 7th? In the one picture, I snapped a picture of a small 5 point that almost walked right up to my stand. This big guy must of smelled his prints and followed his trail right to my stand as well. rest is history!!! 1st 10 pointer taken in my life. Great feeling. Last picture is his mount on my wall.11 points

And still, with a crossbow, you have to have the skill and woodsmanship to consistently, put yourself 30 yards or so downwind of deer to kill them. Even with rifles, some "clowns" can only hope to get lucky. No matter what tool is in their hand. A good hunter is still a good hunter. A stumblebum in the woods is no threat to the deer population. Especially with a crossbow! Let full inclusion happen. And let each hunter decide for themselves what tool they want to hunt with.4 points

This is my season in a nutshell I will probably go out a few more times but I don't think I will find much. The top left picture isn't mine a friend found it and I was lucky enough to be with him because it is his first shed he has ever found. Very bad news flowing in tonight. I can't find Jenny ANYWHERE! I just got in touch with her best friend Natalie(aka Natty) who's dad just happens to be an undercover high ranking 8 star officer for the ABV! He just stopped over to take reports and talk to witnesses about Jenny's last where abouts.... I swear to you guys....., I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH HER DISAPEARANCE!3 points

I'm in too. It's got to be the first shot of the day. Some guys have practice regiments all year long and others are starting to tone up the muscles and begin practice as the season approaches. But, practicing first and then taking a shot is cheating. It can be anytime of the day but It's got to be the first shot of the day before any practice shots. Who has other rules for this August Challenge? Who else is in.3 points

They want us labeled murderers and our hunting ammo banned. If you think they are spending money of pet shelters, think again. http://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2016/4/1/hsus-dupes-donors-in-favor-of-bankrolling-attacks-on-nra-and-american-hunters/2 points

April 25'th of last spring. They should be peeking out of their holes in the next couple weeks here. I just checked in on 3 red dens today and two of them are active again this year. Pretty sure I got a yote den pegged too, but I didn't get a chance to check that one today.2 points

A hunter shouldn't be punished or criticized for not shooting doe, or if he shoots a small buck etc. as long as it's legal. Like many bow hunters I will harvest a doe or 2 during gun or muzzleloader. I prefer not to disrupt my stands or shoot a doe in warmer weather or the expense of a broken carbon arrow and an expensive rage head. A dead doe is a dead doe irregardless of the season she's harvested in.Opening day gun 20152 points

Ya know, these "elite" hunters, are so worried about sharing the woods with, "noob, clown and brown it's down gun hunters". If you are a so much more, proficient hunter, why worry about "those" guys killing "your" deer? Shouldn't be a problem if you are the superior hunter, right?2 points

Where does every one come up with every gun hunter with a crossbow? If full inclusion happens a bow course is required to hunt with it.. so once you take the bow couse you are trained, or qualified, will some be new yes.. but they will be taught ethics and how a deer dies with hemoraging instead of shock lime a bullet. It seems this it the big argument against full inclusion. Mad crazy brown it's down hunters invading the woods... but this new bill allowing full inclusion removes this.. so the argument becomes invalid.. yes they will be new but so was I to archery and everyone else at some point...2 points

Finally back to the beer thread! I had the plague (aka the flu) and got my legs ripped right out from under me. One morning, fine. By evening couldn't even stand up. Spent at least 16 hours a day sleeping. Anyways it's good to be back2 points

It doesn't matter to me if someone needs to use a crossbow as no one does on any property that I hunt on . Actually if it gets women and kids out there , great . Kids will get bored and most women can't go without perfume or hairspray so maybe they will spook deer from the adjacent property over to me . That would be a big plus . I don't support crossbows nor do I fight against them . I couldn't care less !2 points

Sorry in advance to city hunters...We still do lol.....cityiots But honestly most of time it's probably Joe blow from down the valley with the illegal bait pile his boy Fred jacking deer at night and his wife daughter and sister filling out tags... But the post was asking for honest logical reasons... Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk2 points

A long time ago I was big into Coon hunting and competition nite hunts with Coon Hounds, I worked hard on keeping my dogs straight on Coon. I would break them from running any off game like Deer, Rabbits and Fox. Anyhow I purchased a silver phase Red Fox kit from an animal dealer to use for breaking my dogs. Silvers are basically black with some of the guard hair having white tips. Below is my little fox kit whom I named Roxy and one of my best English Coon Hounds Eli. Roxy grew up to be a beautiful fox especially in the winter when her coat was at it's best. So yes there are black Foxes. Al2 points

I never said punish them ,I simple stated a fact that people pass does when they have a tag in their pocket for them, that mentality needs to change especially in high deer population areas. Waiting for a buck that may be following a doe is a common practice, as is waiting till.late season to take a doe as they will bring in the huck when they come into heat.Proper.management will allow for a shorter more intense rut as sex ratios will be closer than they are.. bucks don't have to move if 30 does 100 feet from then Com into heat. What I am saying , hunters, all hunters trophy hunters included need to take doe at every possibility when they have a tag for them. If your truly into conservation and habitat management you understand this, a few years of effort and the hunting gets better! I accomplished this with a few neighbors, in the early.90's we saw 30 to 40 doe in a herd, bucks were uncommon, several years of double digit doe harvest using permits and more bucks seem to chase harder to find doe, hearing a buck fight in the wood is now almost common. The body weights of.all deer increased by 20 to 25 lbs in all age groups. Today a pop and young buck is always taken and many more seen, and a possibility of 140 in plus racks have shown up , as bigger deer are seen the hunters volantary pass 2 and 3 year old looking for 140 plus bucks and 2 of 3 years one is killed. Management is a group effort...1 point

How does one find 4 dens ? That's a lot of miles on the hoof Shed hunting and stumble upon them ? Love the pics of the little ones from last year. Hope you get some more good pics this year1 point

I imagine it's alot of tag holders don't put in the time some of us do or don't care to....I also think some dmp are taken by people with no desire to take doe just to stop someone else from getting it..Personally last season or season before that I'd have to look at book....anyway I shot a doe 5 min into my day on some stateland in the doe only area in the fingerlakes went back out spent all day and shot another one and donated both....I'm a hunter I love the outdoors I hunt for meat for me and others and love the chase....some guys just want bone on the wall and don't help the dec when they ask for it and send wonder why crazy rules come up Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk1 point

HSUS is against any kind of sport hunting "PERIOD" and they sure as Hell don't give a crap about what kind of weapon or bullets a hunter uses. Yes they will use "ANY" kind of tactic they can to get their goal accomplished including the false fear mongering narratives about lead based ammo." Al1 point

Just my opinion.....While practicing is very important I would have to say the best way to measure proficiency is whether or not one comes home with the game he/she is hunting. Practice hopefully makes you a better shot and puts you in condition to make the shot but if the shot can't be made at the moment of truth one isn't very proficient. I know a couple of guys that can shoot paper targets and 3d targets all day long but when it comes time to shoot a deer they choke and either miss or get a bad hit.1 point

There was a thread on AT where guys went outside in the morning and fired one shot at 30 or whatever and posted a pic. We should do that come August1 point

Just add water ! Seems all I can find are dinks this year, well one could say it's harder to find the small ones I guess ! Walked about 2 1/2 hours found these 3. All along hedgerows 2 maybe 20 feet apart .1 point

My neighbor at Camp, sat over one of our food plots at the sunrise of Saturday, March 12 with his Nikon camera and snapped some cool pictures. A few bucks with what looks like new growth already starting, and the 2.5 yr old 9 point still holding on to his head gear.. pretty neat pics i thought.. so i had to share1 point

I've photographed this little guy several times before but it's been a goal of mine to get shots of him with his eyes open which I finally managed tonight. I recently acquired a new camera body and these shots wouldn't have been possible without it due to its low light capabilities, he didn't open his eyes and climb up to the edge of his hole until 15 minutes after sunset. I know this won't mean much to most of you, but the other camera geeks will appreciate this little tidbit, the shots where the eyes are open were taken at 8,000 and 10,000 ISO.1 point

less hunters and the style of hunting today.....most spend all day in a stand as opposed to walking around, that's my guess anyway.1 point

You can't ask for an opinion, then get one and tell me it's wrong. But yes if the "competition" is wounding and spooking deer then yes that's what I mean. It's a quiet peaceful time in the woods with deer traveling naturally. Of course I don't want a target buck on edge. There is no debate that the archery hunter is a more dedicated, harder working hunter. He HAS to be.And what's stopping a non-disabled crossbow hunter from hunting with a compound like the rest of us?1 point

I can remember just a few short years ago when rifles were permitted in many southern zone counties.. The WAILING !!...The rending of HAIR !!... The gnashing of TEETH !!... Those terrible rifles were much more dangerous than shotguns, because they shoot so much FARTHER !! For some reason, that terrible phenomenon has not yet developed...I guess we have just been lucky so far.1 point

I guess it depends on what my pre-season scouting reveals. If I KNOW there's a cranker in the area and don't want to risk flubbing a slam dunk shot with the compound, I'll go exclusively x-bow. Last year I filled my archery buck tag the second week of season and my x-bow never saw the light of day as I continued on with the compound but with little desire to shoot a doe. Just because I choose one weapon one day, doesn't mean I wont change my mind the next. I enjoy hunting with both, and would likely mix it up as well.1 point
