  1. I think I may have finally caught up with the gobbler that I've been chasing for the past couple of weeks. My wife nearly killed him yesterday morning but he slipped through our fingers. Had him going this morning til 7:00 but neither I nor the real hens could lure him down the hillside. Eventually, he just shut up and I figured he had crossed the road above us. I left and drove around to check out another area and on the way back through where I had worked the bird earlier that morning, I spotted two longbeards fanned out in a corner of field circling each other and getting ready to fight!!! I hurried to get into position to intercept them further up the field. I got to the field not knowing exactly how far from them I was and was contemplating my next move when a full fan suddenly came into view at 35yds!!! I didn't even have time to sit...I raised the gun...he was facing away...I got him to raise life his head out of strut and delivered a load of Longbeard XR's to his face. Game over at 8:50. The other gobbler and 4-5 hens stood there and watched as I ran out to retrieve him. Not bad for the subordinate bird...almost 22lb, 10.5" beard and 1 1/4" hooks. One of the two was the "youth season" gobbler I had been after. The other one will have to wait until next year. This is the latest in season that I've ever punched a tag but it was worth the wait!!! It's been a rough season plagued by close calls and a miss early on. I've only really hunted two spots but was within striking distance of gobblers nearly every morning but just couldn't seal the deal. He lost a few tail feathers during the retrieval process. I also got a nice gash on my finger from grabbing his legs... This one's for you Reeltime...limbhanger!!!

  4. Girls and I went down there today. Checked out Arboria luminarium It's an inflatable maze with light and music inside. Actually pretty neat. Took the bike ferry from outer harbor to inner harbor Checked out the naval ships , sub and planes. Area was quite active today as war memorials being visited General Mills but we didn't smell Cheerios today as usual. Pretty impressed on how they've built up the area. Someone had some serious kite action going on.

He will have one or two tops, in between conversation about "him" Then Im stuck with the rest of that Devils brew. I made the mistake of giving him the remaining Labbs before. I wont give him the rest, out of principle. He avoids me for some reason….. He's a huge tool. NOT TODAY DOUG!!!!!!!!!!

  10. We ate here today about 2 hours prior, at that time all the lightening seemed to be over the lake . A number of years ago we went for a lightening strike to a strip joint here in Roch. One of the strippers came out in a fireman's out fit..... We posed for a picture, I'll see if I can find it at home tomorrow !

  13. I'm not gonna beat you up over it but a xbow is just a much archery equipment and the modern compounds...so unless you hunt and shoot strictly trad you are no closer to the true origins of archery than I will be with my xbow Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

  17. For me shooting a compound is all about consistency. Simply put most traditional shooters just can not compare to my accuracy. At distances I am able to shoot deer, many traditional shooters would be lucky to even hit the target. Personally I do not think of the crossbow as a real bow, to me the only thing similar is the fact that it has a string. Will air bows be considered the same? What about a bow that uses gun powder to accelerate the arrow? Then the argument is "Well they both shoot an arrow, just like the crossbow and at similar speeds." To me bow is all about challenging yourself but I would rather have an ethical kill shot that I feel confident in to spare my prey any suffering. For me the compound provides this happy medium of reliability and accuracy and extends my range past 25 yards I would feel limited to with a traditional bow. In so far as arguing about weather or not crossbows should be included, well we could argue about this for another 10 pages as was done before on this site. Simply put we are a stubborn bunch and set in our ways. This results in us arguing about many things from Compound vs Traditional vs crossbow vs gun vs tree stand hunting vs stalking vs tracking vs sitting on a rock vs any other thing you want to add, Chevy vs Ford vs Toyota, 30-06 vs 308 vs 44 mag vs 223 etc. We think our way is best an the others are not and like to argue that point. Because we are so stubborn the argument causes rifts in our ranks. I will not join bow hunters, or NRA because they do not follow my exact point of view or I will never use a crossbow or compound because it is too easy, I will never hunt out of a tree because that's not hunting, lol real easy to find a fight in the hunting community is my point. Don't take that last statement as fact it was just to prove a point with sarcasm. We are always on the offensive about defending out hunting rights, just wish we could unite better to preserve it.

  18. Rob, never going to believe this one!!! As I was making coffee this morning, see another one next to my wood storage rack. Got out the pellet gun and got him and another one!!! Then went out to water my new shrubs and see something moving in the lawn? Went to check out what it was and there is my "lost" trap with the chipmunk still in it!!! That makes 7 so far!!!! WTF already..................

  20. I prefer to hunt like the Indians did, you know, 85 % let off, drop ,away rest, fiber optic sites , release, carbon arrows. While wearing a scent loc suit, from a tree stand with a range finder, 6 trail cams, and a gps . Just like Ishi .

  21. I think you are missing the boat on this one. The whole tone of the original post sounds a little arrogant and elitist. If you make comments like this on a public message board, I don't know why you're acting so surprised that you get negative feedback....

  22. Found this guy at my in-laws yesterday, don't think he was enjoying the 90° heat. I spotted him sleeping as we were going for a walk, after a while he woke up and noticed us and when we walked back through he had disappeared farther up the tree. I grabbed my camera and came back and managed to find him again, he clearly had no interest in moving anymore and looked like he had melted over top of the branch.

  23. Like it or not full inclusion for crossbow is coming. I've hunted and killed deer with bow and crossbow. No big deal to me. If you don't like crossbows, don't use em. Very simple and no arguments from me.

  34. I don't know how many shots the strings can last on a crossbow before they need replacing, but 100 sounds very low. Most guys don't need to practice much with a crossbow once they have it zeroed in, scope or sights should hold it's zero. I'm averaging 5 years (with a little preventative maintenance on mine). Much different than a compound or longbow, in needing to practice and perfect your form, with a crossbow you just aim and shoot (but you do need to know your "range", the same as you would with the pins on a compound bow). I'd be very surprised to hear of anyone who takes more than 50 shots before the season opens. It's not for everyone. But I will say a lot of guys who said "I'll never" wound up buying a crossbow once they became all-inclusive in other states. IMO it's a more efficient tool for the job, and admittedly, it does appeal to the lazier hunters who want to get into bowhunting.

  43. I always cut the scapes off when they first curl around and cook them. I almost get more excited for scapes then the actual garlic. It's like a bonus. Then keep an eye out for when each leave started to brown. I was told that each leave that is still green will make the papery layers that protect your garlic. I make sure there are three green leaves left when I dig them up.

  48. Im not sure what you are asserting with this comment, feel free to PM me if Im off base here, but I posted this topic as an informational post to ask people not to post political threads in the General Chit Chat section. I thought that was plenty clear. Im going to go through and remove all of the nonsense in the thread, and it will remain locked and pinned. I Should have locked it originally, as its not up for debate.
