Cam was out for days. Couldn't wait to check it. So I shot out with one of my little girls for a walk and was pleasantly surprised. Smile for the camera. This one has good bases. Also got a doe and another buck with small bases probably a spike. Hoping to watch these guys grow. Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk6 points

This is the perfect example of how a liberal will resort to name calling instead of coming up with a substantive response to why they think the Times didn't twist trumps words. So instead of the thread being a start to an intelligent debate... it just becomes nothing more than an example of unintelligent trolling.6 points

More than likely they decided not to hear the case because they have a deadlocked court. It will come up again with another state that has a semi auto ban. Hopefully it will be after Trump wins and appoints TWO conservatives to the court!5 points

I find it telling none of these Trump haters ever say anything about Hillary. I guess they feel she's a saint, that never lies, cheats, steals, or tries to get wealthy through power. If you bash Trump, but not Hillary, you are a total tool of the Left and need a lobotomy.4 points

You people are being distracted by "old business". The crossbow proponents already have crammed themselves into the bow season ...... They saw a season that was created for bows and wanted to grab a piece of that and did. But what is slipping around the corner without a whole lot of notice is the fact that now the DEC is championing several versions of also cramming firearms into bow seasons. We knew that would happen right? The precedent has been set now and on goes the evolution of bow season into an "any weapon season". Already they are warning us of wanting muzzleloaders shoved into bow season in specific WMUs. Each precedent begets the next. Way back when compounds were shoved into bow seasons, some of the old-timers that warned that the compound was just the beginning, were also shouted down, and over-run. Amazingly, they were exactly right and the compound became the precedent for crossbows. And amazingly every one today tries to convince themselves and others that crossbows for some reason are the end of the evolution of bow season. Well, the DEC is wasting no time capitalizing on this "creeping incrementalism". The opportunities and precedents for firearms encroachments are already being used. But the crossbow enthusiasts are so focused on their part of the evolution that they can't be bothered with the next phases. Ha.... perhaps the crossbow proponents are even heavily in favor of the introduction of firearms. Why wouldn't they?3 points

Deer density is very low in the plains... best chance of ADK hunting is on snow in the deep woods. When the woods is dry and noisy it will be nearly impossible to catch up to a whitetail. You need to also remember that food source is very limited in the ADK's and it is hard to pattern whitetails by feeding habits. It is entirely possible if you aren't a tracker to hunt your entire life in the ADK's and never see a buck. Having said all that, the better you get to know the woods you hunt the better your chances of picking up deer sign and getting a handle on deer activity. For some the rule is... "If there's no snow... don't go." Unless of course you're like me... and it isn't all about killing a deer. The ADK's will definitely test your hunting abilities. Good Luck... have fun!3 points

The title of the thread is my opinion and that of a few friends. I got this Speedy Stitcher in 1989 as a Christmas gift. It was recommended by friend......... The other day the winch strap on my boat trailer busted while cranking the boat in. I bought a new one today at Cabela's and it was about 4' too long. By "too long" I mean that it filled the spool on the winch before I got to the hook. I pulled it back off and compared it to the junk one and noted that it was too long. I cut the strap to the correct length and stitched it up like it needed to be. A bolt goes through it when putting it on the spool and then you just crank it in. My Speedy Stitcher has gotten me out of quite a few jambs over the years. I might not use it every year but when I need it, it's handy as hell to have. My turkey vest would have been chicken chow mien years ago without it. I think it's one of those things every hunter/fisherman/outdoors man needs and should fit all budgets.2 points

Very well put together infomercial by Curmudgeon and company through the Delaware Otsego Chapter of the Audubon Society. It is always enjoyable to see and hear the names behind the voices on internet forums and social media, although this is not the first time we seen the face of Curmudgeon (Tom Salo). I posted this in the general talk section, because, this forum does not have a conservation section, and although this would indeed fit under the deer hunting section, I am a realist.... A legislative ban on Pb ammo will be difficult and I do not lobby or advocate for such a ban. However, in my personal dealings with new hunters, I indeed promote that they voluntarily chose an alternative to Pb ammunition. https://youtu.be/qffN1D3B0j82 points

I was going to point out that the 'good guys' are also the cops and citizens in your neighborhood. Then I recalled your post from a couple of months ago stating that the cops and the citizens should just mind their own business and not bother the drug dealers and other criminals in your neighborhood. I'm guessing that would apply, in your view, to terrorists as well? Exactly what sort of civilized society do you support?2 points

I have done a lot of management for grouse the past 10 years and this year the added benifits seem to be an abundance of woodcock! The grouse numbers are up this year as are sighting while putting in food plots and some timber management. I have never seen resident woodcock here in 20 plus years I have owned the land. A few in fall for a day or two as they migrated south ,but I have 4 that I see almost every day I am out ( and they are different birds for sure)they don't chase me on the tractor like the grouse, but scamper and flit ahead for about a hundred yards then stand to the side as I drive by.. I don't really knkw much about them other than they eat worms.. but there must be a reason they decided to stay this year. Perhaps the forest floor thay was sold pine has broken down enough for worms to thrive.. I've looked for habitat info and foods but have not found to much ,but I welcome these funny birds!1 point

Okay, so this is the 2nd year new crossbow legislation has been introduced just weeks prior to all the new NYS budget discussions. And the 2nd year it has been referred to the Environmental sub-Committee and died there. Pretty sure any legislation not moved or voted on before our lawmakers go on summer recess are purged. At least in my feeble mind there seems to be a trend developing with the timing &/or introduction of these new legislations. There seems to be overwhelming support for updated crossbow laws. The driving force seems to be NYCC. Only a suggestion, but why not prompt our legislators to introduce crossbow reform legislation in September when the new session conveniens???1 point

I'll tell ya, I moved out to Arizona last April and I was back in New York State October 31st! Right in time to shoot my biggest buck. I've lived all over the country and for some reason I can't stay away from this god forsaken liberal state. LOL. Not that I didn't like those places, but hunting is a big part of my life and what makes me happy. Just isn't the same as up here. Good Luck! Come back and hunt from time to time!1 point

Personally I'd get.some timber cut and pile and.leave.tops.. deer will eat.oak leaves bud and nuts.. but if you want to keep deer on peoperty you need cover tops are the best as they will protect the young seedlings that sprout up and deer will eat the bud off them. Then they will bed down wind side of them.. 300 yards wide is tough to establish a trail system around. . But. If you have tops pushed and piled on property lines and do a small plot or two in the openings created by tree removal you may get the deer to stop on their way to where they really want to go..1 point

I shot a buck out of a tree stand on town land that ran along a creek. I had a good chest hit and great blood. I knew I hit the deer good. It was a thick area and after I hit the buck it ran out of site within 40 yards. I was following good blood along the game trail right along the creek and lost the sign. There were deer prints in the bottom in the shallow water that just stopped a foot in. I was convinced the deer crossed or turned back on the creek trail. I looked that whole day up and down and even drove around to come in other side of creek and look all over there. Went back the next morning and looked some more and had about given up. I was hiking down the creek and I noticed an antler and just the top of a shoulder sticking out of the water in some deadfall. It was my buck, he died right at the creek fell over and floated probably a half mile down the creek. He was just fine as the water was in the 40s. Man that was a sonofabeech pulling up outa that creek and up the bank. I had another in that spot that after I shot it crossed the creek and died on the run 10 yards from the back lawn of the local police station. Guess he was going for help!1 point
