  1. You all know I was able to buy the 10 acre parcel next to my camp. So know I border another camp consisting of 66 acres. I have never met the owner and in fact they didn't show up for the last two seasons. You can go online and pretty much find out anything about your neighbor in the tax map section for your county. I did this and got his address and sent along a friendly letter introducing myself. That was a week ago and I received a phone call from him today. He really appreciated the letter and was looking forward to meeting me in a couple of weeks. We were on the phone for 15-20 minutes and I felt like I knew the guy. Always like to extend my hand first and see what happens……it will pay off in the long run.

  2. Give them water and shade or whatever they need to stay cool. Animals overheat quick. This is our puppy yesterday on the cool garage floor with a fan

  9. So got sight good enough at 15 yards to shoot consistently these are left over arrows mine are on order...no stabilizers or quiver yet just single pin and Qad drop away. First thing I noticed was how quiet this bow is I mean quiet quiet what a difference not to mention how smooth the bow shoots it holds back nice doesn't want to jump forward at all overall I'm stoked can't wait to get some longer ranges dialed in to shoot some deer. 2016 matthews htx 28 draw 60 # dw Trophy Ridge single pin Qad drop away Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

  10. The Field and Stream Flyer was in today's paper . It showed a Masterbuilt 30" Sportsman's Elite Electric Smoker for $!49.98 ( orig price $239.99 ) . Drove to Henrietta after church and breakfast to buy one . Also bought a 4 pack of different wood chips . I used a $20 coupon and $83.29 in gift cards . Now I have to learn to use the darned thing . My oldest son and one of my daughters have smokers and use them on a regular basis . My neighbor also has a smoker and made the best Spare Ribs I ever had in my life .

  16. My neighbor at camp can't stop telling me how many deer he has been seeing this spring/early summer. I guess this mild winter we just had doesn't subtract to the population that much. Ill be up to check cams July 15th that should give me a good look.

  17. Good idea . A lot of guys that buy bows take them from the shop in a Bow Case . I would think that an archery shop would be a good bet to pick up a box .

  19. Eddie, when I first got mine about 5 years ago I was worried I was over my head. It's simple as could be. I shovel around mine and use year round. Everything seems to be smoked at 200-225. If you smoke a little too long it's no big deal. I've never found I've over smoked anything. I've been using fruit woods as IMO hickory and mesquite are TOO smoky for my taste. Some although may prefer. Smoked almonds: sauté raw almonds in butter and your favorite dry rub. Throw in metal colindar or make an aluminum pouch . Beer can chicken: can brine but don't have to. Rub mayo on outside (it's basically fat) and dry rub, throw some butter pats under skin, insert beercan Pork shoulder/butt : light coat of mustard, dry rub , smoke for about 3 -4 hours, throw in crockpot on low overnight , no pulling required Wings: melt stick of butter, shake wings in bag or Tupperware, dry rub if wanted ,smoke and finish on grill for a minute or under broiler to crisp up Venison: Cut steaks into bite sized pieces: dash of dry rub, dab of jalapeno cream cheese ,slice of water chestnut if you'd like, wrap in 1/3 piece of bacon look up bacon explosions where you make a bacon lattice and stuff contents inside Smoked trout for trout BLT's before on thick sourdough Wild turkey breasts (none going on for me this year sadly) marinate with bottle of Italian dressing and good douse of OJ, dry rub if wanted, toothpick bacon around to cover It's endless and easy. It's easy. Need beer to smoke however. Neighbors and postman are always seeming to time it right and get tastes of whatever I've got on. I like rubs with coffee and the sweet and hot made for wild game Try some of these ideas. I think you'll find it simplistic

  22. I have a friend that has a neighboring property where the owner lives out of state. Prime deer property. He had people that would randomly park in the field, put tree stands up and occasionally wander on to his own property. He wrote a letter to the owner this past season explaining the situation and how it effected his land and hunting. The owner told him to post the hell out of it and gave him permission to hunt. We went in and pulled the stands and put them in the field to be picked up. Worked out perfect for him. Sometimes all you need to do is extend a hand.

  25. I have a pair of red foxes that come and eat the left over bird seed that falls from the feeder. I hear them barking at all hours of the day and night. The other day our cat and one of them were fighting on our rock wall. They both took off in opposite directions. I guess it was a draw.

  28. Will keep the taps dripping a bit once it gets cold. Thanks for the heads up. Went out this morning and took out the nasty old carpet. I just don't get how people can live with a stained up carpet. Gross! New carpet is scheduled for Thursday. Man, I hope they stay on schedule. Not much room to put furniture out of the way if they don't. Bought our kitchen table and chairs today as well. Fits good in the kitchen and matches the cabinets. The g/f ordered curtains, cushions for the kitchen chairs ( yes, I like comfy chairs! ), the portable AC unit, and God knows what else. I gave up. I didn't even get the carpet I wanted after all. Over it. I'm just letting her do her thing. I did tell her if the place looks all dainty I will buy a small camper trailer and live in the back yard. LOL Buying the new sofa on Wednesday for pick up Saturday while we still have the moving truck. Can't wait until this is over and we are settled in at least a little. I would rather un-pack then pack. Looking forward to drinking a cold beer Saturday night in my own home and hoping the local pizza joint makes a decent pie. Edited for spelling.

  33. Picked up this pre-WWII model 70 Winchester a couple weeks ago and have decided it wasn't what i was looking for.. serial # is 7xxx so makes manufacture date in the late 30's. over the course of its life, it appears to have been rebarreled, restocked, receiver has been drilled and tapped (redfield base and medium rings included) and safety modified.. please see below post in winchester forum as to what the experts say about it. [turl]http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/11243119/Re:_Just_picked_up_a_wincheste#Post11243119[/url] Action and trigger are silky smooth.. Stock is solid and fits well..Bore is clean and bright.. some bluing loss near front of the barrel shows signs of this gun being hunted.. Asking price is $600 shipped to your FFLfor rifle, rings, and bases (no scope)OR trade for a Marlin 45-70 lever gun or Remington Model 7 (plus or minus cash of course). PM me any questions you may have

  36. Same here Burt. My best night so far had 18 different bucks show up in the field at dusk. Lots of yearlings in the mix, but it's been a bunch of years since I've seen anything close to those kind of #'s here. Hope your cam doesn't overheat from all the action!

  42. If you extrapolate into the future where this lead ammo concern is going, you can't deny eventually all lead ammo, shot shells with bird shot, even when used for small game, as well as rifle bullets down to the .22LR, will all be questioned and eventually all be attacked until banned. I have serious concerns with this, especially when you understand this will be on the NATIONAL level, as was steel ammo for migratory bird hunting. Imagine how this will impact ammo suppliers and ammo supplies in general. I don't think manufacturers would be capable of meeting the demand in the beginning and that may last for years. Supply and demand affects cost to buyers too. This would be a huge change to current ammo production and would have ripple effects throughout the entire shooting world, including military and law enforcement. I don't like making these type of sweeping changes without knowing what the effects will be until it's too late. Nobody wants bald eagles to die and we are all looking to prevent that, but at what cost?
