  2. ...only to be largely ignored by the media because she happens to be very pro second amendment. This is a great story about a tough and determined gal who's won medals in six consecutive Olympics (something never before accomplished) despite enormous personal hardships. 3. Sharp knife……..nuff said. I use either a Buck 110 or a slightly smaller Camillus. Both lock backs, both old and both very sharp. I think I told this story before but, anyway……..My buddy's son shot a big doe a few years back. I found it for him , right before dark, in a cut field. The kid had been singing the praises of the "Butt Out" during our whole trip. What ever. Im sitting on my ATV while shining the lights on the doe, as the kid is gutting it out. He is using the mighty "Butt OUT". I see the kid struggling and after he spends a good 10 mins. on the ass end, I ask him what the F? …He says that the Butt out is stuck in the deer. I climb off my ATV and shine my flash light at his "work area" and let him know that he put the Butt Out in the wrong "opening". Did I mention that the deer was a Doe??

  15. Agree, one of the best tools I've bought for hunting. That and the $15 camo umbrellas that strap around my tree for when it's raining. It's easy peasy to use. Bought some for my friends too. It weighs practically nothing . The key is pull out slooooow . It's a heck of a lot easier and faster than the old traditional way. FYI Insert in right hole on a doe

  16. I also use the Butt Out II and would not be without it in the woods. It weighs next to nothing as it is made of plastic, and when used correctly, is a handy time saving gadget. For anyone who has tried one and had bad results, the key is to turn the tool no more than 1 1/2 turns after you insert it, and pulling it out in a steady even pull without stopping. Many people who try it make the mistake of turning it too many turns and end up ripping the membrane before pulling it out, or stopping part way through the removal. I hope this helps.

  21. In this day of trail cams, cell cams, and every "app" in the world to help with wind and so on, why bait? Not trying to be a jerk, but seriously, why? If I had 1000 acres of my own land, I might put out a few cams, plant some apple trees or w/e, but never bait. At some point it's not hunting anymore. JMO.

  26. Too hot outside so I shot a 20yd NFAA round in my basement. 262 with 1st shot in the white (splitting the 4 and 5 ring at 2 o'clock). Pretty much the norm for me but with no thinking or tweaking. Just easy today. Plus a new string on the recurve - wore the old one out. A good place to be as the season approaches. Feeling confident with the Widow.

  27. I have no personal experience with Federal factory loads, but I did a quick search on it and the cartridge appears to be loaded with Barnes TTSX bullet, with which I have had considerable experience. They don't expand as dramatically as ballistic tips ( with which I have ALSO had considerable experience) but they do expand and usually pass through the animal and raise quite a lot of hell while doing it. They kill as well and as quickly as any bullet I have ever used and if you happen to take a shot at a less than perfect angle they penetrate better than most expanding bullets, while maintaining all or most of their original weight.

  28. I've been keeping journals for over 35 years. And I realize its not a scientific study, just my own observations in the area I hunt. The peak day every year, when the bucks are on their feet actively searching or with a doe is November 10th give or take a day on either side. Of course there is breeding, sometimes well before and after November 10th. But the 10th is what I've come to call the magical day! This would be the day a mature buck would be seen standing in the middle of a field with a doe or cruzing with his nose to the ground. Or running a doe across a road or open area. It is a time to be in the stand all day! If there is only one day to be out there it would be November 10th! I have a world of respect for Charlie A. as an outdoorsman, photographer, writer and hunter. But his luner predictions just never lined up with what I was actually seeing in the woods, in my area, consistently year to year. But for consistency, year to year, no matter the moon phase, it's Nov. 10th for me. Again, just my personal observations.

  29. Did you guys ever noticed in most farm fields there is always one or two mature trees ? Someone once told me that's where the farmers would toss the field stones they didn't want to hit while working the fields.

  30. Yes that was a real nice head of hair 35 years ago, a real pompadour, today I buzz what I have left right down to the scalp. Dan some might say I am a little weird at times but I can assure you my last name is not Yankovich. I believe there may be a direct correlation with hair and horns, back when I had the mop I was taking some pretty nice bucks, these days the points have become a lot fewer. But like my hair today I am not nearly as fussy as I was when I was a young buck myself. Al

  36. Back when I purchased the Leupold 3X it was a regular cataloged scope in their lineup, it is just about perfect for the shorter ranges Foster slug firing shotguns are normally used. For me it has a plenty wide enough field of view for short range, all the deer I have taken with slugs have been under 100 yards, some almost on top of me. This guy almost ran me over and I put him down at about 25 yards. Back then I had enough hair to keep my head warm. I have recently purchased a couple of the current Leupold 2.5 compacts, they have the same style but they are lighter and shorter, I like them a lot. They have a long eye relief and a huge field of view which makes them great to use on slug guns also I think. I have one currently mounted on a little Marlin 94 44 mag, when this weather cools off a little I will be putting it to the test on the range. Al

  38. We use the Butt out II.....longer handle then the original....deff helps when field dressing. Also switched to one of those Havalon knives last season.... it is extremely sharp and buzzes through a wind pipe....just need to be sure not to apply to much lateral pressure or the removable blade may pop off. 39. Yea I've learned that they are a great source of entertainment but that's all it is... They hardly even talk about products that are actually useful... The best hunting product I have ever found is the butt out, never seen that advertised on a hunting show.... I think I'm going to start a thread about the butt out!! 44. Sock the WD-40 to it....Work the hinge and the opening lever until it functions more freely...You aren't going to hurt it by opening and closing the action as long as you have some lubrication in there...THEN when it works more freely, cut out the WD and put some gun oil in it... Then buy some cheap promo loads and shoot a couple hundred rounds through it..Many double guns work pretty stiff until you get a few hundred rounds through them. It is a quality firearm and it would be a shame not to use it, OR if you do not want it, sell it to someone who will use it. You mentioned ejectors...They would be inside the forend..Make sure they are lubed and operating freely also.

  47. The buck is the first deer I ever killed back in the early '80s. My friend gave me a 35mm film can with Cotton balls in it, we then poured in Tinks 69 , and he walked out of the woods nose down right to,it in a winter wheat field and I dropped him with a smooth bore mod11 bird barrel .... The years following I must have dumped a few gallons of that stuff in the woods, and failed to repeat . Ah Atomic Fireballs, here's the deal. When you've been sitting awhile and deer movement is dead, pop one in your mouth , before its gone ( about 20 minutes if you don't chew it ) you'll see a deer . If you look carefully at the base of the trees on all those " hunting" shows you'll spot the wrappers on the ground , if you look closely at photos of Milo Hanson you'll see his lips and tongue are overly red .... Some say the reason Mitch Rompola won't have his " world record " WT scored is he doesn't want the world to know he's uses Atomic Fireballs .

  48. Been driving around a few times a week recently just relaxing and looking for bucks. Went with a buddy yesterday and he took some roads I've never been on before. We weren't seeing much and then we saw this guy, bedded in grass 20 yds off the road. After yelling a string of obscenities, I popped a few pics before he bounced away without looking back. This is the nicest buck I have ever seen, especially so close. He's a 10 with split brow, good mass and nice tine length that will only keep growing. Saw another couple bucks after this but it was too dark to photograph at that point. I have a letter in the mail seeing if I can hunt this property. Fingers crossed but I'm sure the answer will be no. What's he score? I'm going to frame this one for sure.
