I've had 2 Ram 3500 SEW CC. 6.4 hemi. Love the trucks. But if I bought a third, it just wouldn't "feel" like a new truck. I needed a change. My choices were obviously, Chevy or ford. The 6.0 Chevy is underpowered. The new 6.6 GM gasser has some impressive numbers, better then the 6.4 hemi, but it's a new platform, just released, and I'm very hesitant to buy a unproven platform. So, that left ford.... F350 SRW SCLB. 6.2.11 points

Just droped my daughter off at a 4 day ID soccer camp at West Point. Been a while since I have been there. We have a few family members that are graduates. Place is beautiful! she will be a Sophomore in HS this year but knows she wants to work in the field of international security. This would be a good fit. Mom is not to keen on the military service but is getting used to the idea.6 points

Here's me, mowing the lawn again ( pulling a 8' disc making a food plot) with my son passed out. If I had a gear tractor, I'd have had to quit, but thankfully my mower can go fast or slow and turn without disturbing him. Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk5 points

Real feel was like 110 yesterday. Been working on the tower out back off and on for last few weeks. It was all wide open before so been making it all framed in. Door, windows shelves... seems every day I work on it is 99 degrees out lol. Done for the day. Just cleaned pool. Ribs in smoker. Time to kick back! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Grouse need young forest habitat. DEC has a program called the "young forest initiative" that calls for maintaining 10% of wildlife management areas as young forest. For example, in the Connecticut Hill WMA about 13% of the habitat was classified as young forest in 1970. Today that number is more like 1 or 2%. The management plan calls for clear cutting about 178 acres a year for 10 years to return the young forest portion to 10%. The habitat management should help woodcock, grouse, and wild turkey. DEC has a section on their website regarding the young forest initiative that provides a wealth of knowledge.4 points

Man, this thread is epic. Normally, I have just enough knowledge to chime in and join the raucous. However, I’m going to be an adult and not saying anything. Since I know nothing beyond gas push mowers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Finished my pack today. Still need to add reading glasses and upgrade the blankets there a little cheesy. Put together a few tinder packs, cotton balls/Vaseline and magnesium shavings taped up in ziplock bags. Went with a mora “kansbol” knife it throws a great spark. Cavers woods and cuts cord. Stainless steel. No to happy with the pot going to look for a stainless one that I can put the pack in. Not included in the pictures in an ax,saw and my other hunting gear. Total weight of the pack is 2lbs. 6oz. Not a problem for me to carry. Thanks for all the help appreciate it!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Unfortunately the SCOTUS ruled the 2nd Amendment refers to an individual right, but it has yet to rule on the limit of infringement a state can impose. That needs to be done in order to shut all these anti-gun totalitarians up.3 points

The phrase "well regulated" during the time the Constitution was written, was meant to imply something running like a well tuned watch mechanism. Any elected hack who thinks rights should be regulated to the point of being licensed privileges, needs to be removed from office for violating their oath of office and being too stupid to represent anyone's freedom.3 points

Here in Delaware County, their numbers go up and down in annual cycles. Some years they're all over the place and a few years later they're scarce. I often wonder if the coyote population affects their numbers much. NJ now has a lot of coyote in the areas that used to have good grouse numbers.3 points

Anyone remember Chlordane??? In the 80s it was being banned in NY so my dad went to CT and bought what he could find - he used to dig holes around the house and pour that crap right in there. Never had a bug in the house AND I grew an extra toe!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

I just read NJ has banned all Grouse hunting due to a decline in their numbers in the state. Apparently the state's preference for old growth forests is the cause of the demise. The state doesn't actively manage it's forest lands to better suit it's wildlife. Grouse are best served by areas that have been logged, or are on edges of farmland. Most of the NJ Grouse were in the young forest areas, but those areas have now become too old to support healthy Grouse populations. I've taken many Grouse in that state over the years and find it sad the seasons are now closed. The state doesn't seem to be pursuing any plan to fix this problem either. Banning Grouse hunting isn't going to solve the problem, as Grouse hunters have very little effect on the population anyway. The number of Grouse hunters in NJ has declined to nothing over the years too, as the birds have become few and far between. I love Grouse hunting. This revelation is depressing.2 points

Just to update my gun arrived and I love it. Fits better in my hand with the 9 round mag but ok with the 8. I'll probably carry with the 9 and carry the 8 as my reload. Thanks again to all who shared their opinion.2 points

It seems everyone turns a blind eye to the over population of owl, raptors and eagles and dumps it on the canines and crows.Nesting season is in full swing here on long island with baby birds everywhere I can say I watch more redtails and other raptors picking off fledglings then crows.2 points

Gotta play the rules they lay out. We were the home team in game one- up 5-2 with 10 minutes left on the time limit. 1 pitch pop out, 5 pitch strike out, mound visit to discuss how to pitch their 10 hitter(?!?).3 outs. 4 minutes left and we are up. Mandatory take 2 strikes. 1st batter out, 2nd batter walk, pop out....game over due to time limit. Guaranteed championship game (4:15..108 heat index predicted!)for us today-one pool play left (11:00)but we can’t be caught. Championship will be tough but our pitchers are all available. Should be my boys pitching and catching the chip game so a ton of pacing for me. Nice to see this team come together a bit at the end of a long struggling season. Fingers crossed—-mostly for getting back over the GWB at 7:00 on a summer Sunday night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I have soft point and FMJ ammo to use for chucks. I tried the FMJ rounds and found they kill the chuck without tearing it up. Just have to make sure the animal has a backstop behind it to prevent the bullet from traveling any further than the chuck itself. Here on Delaware County farms, there are very few structures to worry about anyway. The FMJ ammo is brass cased, but Berdan primed, so it can't be reloaded. It's not suitable for deer hunting, but it works well on chucks. I've got plenty of it to use too. It's target ammo, and chucks make a good target. I'm really enjoying this walking varmint hunting. It's good exercise, I get plenty of sun and I can travel light. Other than a canteen with water and a Cliff Bar for a snack, I don't need much else to spend a couple hours in the morning or evening hunting them. Thought about taking the binocs along, but I would probably be using them to look at everything else other than chucks. One or two chucks taken per hunt is about par for the course. It really keeps the deer hunting skills sharp, as it takes the same stalking skills to be successful. I wish I had started doing it years ago.2 points
