fasteddie
I had to drop my bow poundage from 60# so I could shoot it . Dropped the limbs 2 full turns each . At it gets easier , I will move the poundage back up . The way the weather has been , I can start shooting in the back yard again .
Jeremy K
That's the best thing to do ,it keeps you shooting and it keeps you from developing bad form from shooting a bow that is too stiff.
First-light
Has to be some type of exercise that targets, no pun intended, that muscle group so you can keep them strong during off season.
Robhuntandfish
60# is far more than needed anyway. Shoot what makes you the most steady and comfortable for poundage.
LET EM GROW
Yep, turn them down. If you feel your setup is not "good enough" lowering bow poundage down and beefing up your arrow setup will achieve the same results or even better results. loworange88
This would likely work quite well for targeting those muscle groups. https://www.amazon.com/Synergee-Resistance-Portable-Collapsible-Outdoors/dp/B086R2CG48/ref=asc_df_B086R2CG48/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=459710755857&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9379590672183479712&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9005171&hvtargid=pla-920763649366&psc=
CharlieNY
Eddie be aware of a couple of factors that you cannot control. First off as you age your upper body strength will naturally decrease. I have experienced this and had to turn down my bow over the years. Second as you get cold in the woods your strength will significantly decrease compared to what you can draw shooting your bow on a warm day. Turning down your bow should not be a concern as long as you tune it for a lower draw weight. Another way to help compensate for lower draw weight is to use a cut on contact broadhead. Good luck. valoroutdoors.com
DirtTime
Sorry to see you having to go through this, eddie. Do whatever allows you to be able to still get out there.
Larry
I'm having the same issue and just had my second knee replacement. I'm finding it really hard to draw my bow sitting down. I think I'm going to get a new 45/60 bow and set it at 50.
fasteddie
I get most of my exercise pushing my 80 year old butt up out of my LazyBoy chair . 2
Arcade Hunter
Im in the same boat, eddie. I missed two great opertunities last bow season because I couldnt draw the bow....one was on a big doe and the other a big bodied 6pt. I dont know if I was just too cold or lost too much strength but it seemd fine when I drew the bow while warm inside the house...
fasteddie
I did the same routine last year . Lowered the poundage and worked it back up during the summer months . I feel more confident at 60# and that got me a buck last season .
Fletch
I hope I can pull 60 pounds at 80!! Last year I recall the first couple sessions of shooting after 7 months off was a shock. Once I got a few sessions in I was good. Getting older ain't no joke lol!

Trad bow
The year I tore my rotator I couldn’t shoot my 57 lb recurve so I hunted with a 43 lb longbow. I was a little leary of the poundage but it zipped an arrow through a fat 3.5 year old buck like a knife through butter. I’m back up to 57 lbs but feel better about the future knowing how well the light poundage worked. Good luck and don’t over do it

grampy
I'm struggling to pull 50lbs. But have no doubt that it will zip through a deer.

I think youd find a new bow at 60 will have a much friendlier draw cycle Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
fasteddie
I will be 81 this coming Bow Season . Why would I invest in a new bow at that age ...... I will be ready with my Ben Pearson bow by October 1st .

And New gear is fun at any age!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
