Fridge in an unheated garage ?

I believe it would be good. It's kind of like those soda vending machines they keep outside. And look at all the ice chests that convenient stores keep outside.

I know some refrigeration equipment they use outdoors have a small electric heater that runs around the compressor to keep the oil warm. But for the amount that yours would have to turn on and off in the cold weather.... I don't think it would be something to worry about.

Ours had an issue in the freezer if the garage gets colder then freezing. Put heat in garage set temp to 45 problem fixed  .

Meats and freezer items would thaw out if garage got below freezing which it did .

Never kept a full freezer in garage but the freezer on top of garage fridge has thawed on really cold nights in Ohio. Beer in fridge was good and cold but freezer was partially thawed. The fridge/freezer combination works great 11 months out of the year for me. But I would not trust it on a real cold night with anything you would worry about spoiling.

if your garage temperature goes below freezing the thermostat in the garage freezer thinks its cold enough to shut off , hence things thaw out

I have to run a space heater in the poorly
Insulted garage every once and again in the winter to keep the stand up fridge/freezer and chest freezer operational. Yes, I need two full size fridge/freezer (one obviously in th kitchen) and a chest freezer at least until the boys go to college! I also have another old stand up fridge freeze in my shed that is only used to hang meat in warm temps.

They make garage ready freezers. Dont know what the difference  is . Have a chest freezer in the garage for 3 years now no problem . Fridge freezer thaws in the winter. We don't use it except for beverages and ice . And deer quarters  in warmer weather.

We have a chest freezer we bought back in the 90’s and it’s been in our unheated  garage for several years with zero problems .

How cold does your garage get in winter

My upright is probably 10 yrs old. Garage is insulated, but not heated. Water will easily freeze.  I've have freezer alarms and the freezer temps consistently stays around 0°.

I had one in my garage down south. Still got pretty cold in the winter. My grandma has had one for years in hers. I have a minifridge in mine now. Never an issue.

Many people have it in garage and don't even realize there is an issue.  Especially if the garage temp is close to freezing and the next day it warms up to say 40 degrees . Only time I really had issues was when it was 0 outside.  As I said I put heat in garage and all are happy.  Freezer works and cars are warm.

I have a wireless thermometer I use now , one sensor in my basement freezer and one in the upstairs fridge .

Works great and has an alarm so you can set the high and low temps

We had a second fridge in garage, in the winter that freezer did not freeze

I've never had an issue with fridge or freezers in unheated garages. but I keep them closest to house and never had my garage go under 40 degrees. If it drops below that you may have an issue of it turning off.

I have an upright combination freezer/fridge in my garage that I use to store beer and such during the summer. My garage is unheated tho so I unplug it for the winter and since I've heard it won't work when it gets below freezing.

The newer ones dont work in the cold, below freezing.

There are “Garage Ready” freezers that will not defrost when the outside temp is lower than the freezer.   Works from 0 to 100 degrees.
