landtracdeerhunter
My omelet was a little well done. Other than that, breakfast in the stand was pretty much flawless.
josephmrtn
Thankfully this year I didn't have any goofs! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Caveman
I goofed by taking a job that requires consistently long hours in a city where my closest hunting access is a 45 minute drive.
phade
Ill let you know what my opening day goofs are on October 15th. Be careful not to shoot a buck in the doe only zone on Oct. 15....

BowmanMike
I found out that I have not lost my biggest talent when it comes to deerhunting. I will, without fail, scare some deer away on my way to the stand. Usually right from under my stand. I spooked nothing on my 1/2 mile walk until I was almost in my stand. Awesome. Doesn't seem to matter where my stand is, either.
monkeyman2269
That's why your stand is there lol
nyslowhand
Fortunately, nothing forgotten this year! Worst was several years ago when after ~200yrd trek in the dark I realized I forgot my release. Worst screw-up while in the stand was when I was getting ready to quit for the day, tied my bow to a haul rope and started to lower it...ZING, down it went & bounced off the ground! Only saving grace was it was the last day of bow season, because it needed a new cam! Needless to say I don't use those ropes with the clasps/hooks on the ends any more! As long as we're having confession, couldn't tell you the number of times I've dropped things from the stand in the dark; quiver, flashlight, release, fanny pack. And of course, occasionally forgetting my dry seat cushion. Nothing like a wet butt to shorten a hunt! ML season is a whole other scenario, just way too many gizmos & crap loading accessories that you could easily forget.
The_Real_TCIII
Very last day of last season I got up extra early and hoofed it into some state land, way back in to a spot I picked on google earth. Found a decent tree, set up the climber and got in about an hour before light. When the time came to put a cap in my ML I opened it up, no breech plug. I'd left it on my bench. Climbed down, packed up, season over lol
phade
Ha, MZ is always good for a laugh. Last day, sat in a stand overlooking bedding, nothing... Got down and walked about 50 yds and a doe pops up and looks back at me, not knowing for sure I was there. I dropped her. Up stands a few other does and a decent three year old buck. Again they dont know where I am but are obviously trying to figure out what to do. Loaded powder, then reached for my SSTs, which I immediately realized were in the truck. Awesome. Watched the buck walk away calmly. Could have shot him untold number of times.
knehrke
I forgot the all important pee bottle. So, bursting to the gills, I got down 15 minutes early and took a short walk to change out some SD cards in the cameras and drain the pickle. Wouldn't you know that three doe show up just as I'm in the middle of my business? I managed a sneak to within 13 yards of them, still unzipped, as they blithely fed on the far side of a brush pile. And after all that, I let them walk. Too dang hot to shoot a doe yet.
nyslowhand
Ha, MZ is always good for a laugh. That's why I carry ~3 of those plastic charge tubes with primer, pellets and sabot all in one place. I usually forget the starter ram rod.
The_Real_TCIII
I carry those too, I've had the same three loaded since '09. I never see squat during ML
wolc123
My worst late ML was back in the day that NY made us use side-locks and open sights. A huge-bodied buck, that had already dropped one horn, walked right under my stand. Our freezer was empty, and my mouth was watering as I watched him sway side to side right below. "Snap" went the cap, but the load never fired. He looked up, picked up his pace a little, then disappeared behind the next hedgerow. We ate lots of chicken that winter. nyslowhand
Exactly why it's suggested in caplocks and inlines to dry fire a cap or primer before loading the charge! Clears any oil build-up or blockages in the ignition port. Not familiar with sidelocks, but there must be a similar procedure. Little off topic, back to bow hunting "oh crap" moments! Danny
Last year get to my spot get dressed go grab bow in backseat, whoops no bow, called my wife and she hopped in her car and met me half way, she's awesome
132 eight pointer
So last Sun. was my first time out this season : Grabbed scented insect repellent by mistake and used it before I realized what it was .Took 2 left hand gloves because those camo gloves all look the same. The best part was when I put my climber around the tree and then realized I had the base and the seat sections reversed. Oh well that is what the first hunt is usually like. Sat for 3 /12 hrs. saw nothing but still enjoyed myself.
