My first 3 shot group so far this season. I was shooting at the black dot I made with a marker. Appx 26 yards.
This was about an hour ago, a neighbor saw me walking back inside with my gear and asked if my groups were nice and tight. Then we got to talking, you know how that goes.

How can my first shot be spot on and follow up shots be off? Frustrating! Hopefully first shot is really the shot.

The first shot is usually more relaxed when shooting at a target. Then, you want to make that group as tight as possible, so you add pressure to yourself. I am not saying when a deer comes in you are not under pressure, that's the most pressure you will ever feel. But the need to try and 'Robin Hood' seeps in in a target. Just try and stay relaxed for all your shots, and remember to breathe!

Makes sense.  I was rushing a bit because there was only about 20 minutes of decent light out.  Thanks.
