Pygmy
WAAAAY cool, Wooly...I have seen pileated woodpeckers screw, but have never seen the results in the nest.. When you posted that title, I thought you might have some pictures of our illustrious Governor's offspring... 1

grampy
Very cool pic's wooly! Can't recall ever seeing little peckerheads in the nest before either. But have run across quite a few peckerheads, doing peckerheaded stuff in the woods.

philoshop
Interesting and funny story: My Dad is a retired Dentist who had an office in Newark for many years. He had someone in his chair one day when there was all of a sudden a loud hammering noise coming through the A/C system. It kind of jolted everyone in the office, but Dad stayed calm and didn't screw anything up. My Mom, the receptionist and a farm girl, went out to see what was going on and found a Pileated woodpecker hammering away at the stainless steel exhaust stack on the roof. That nutty bird came back for a couple of days before I put an owl decoy up there. Maybe he was training for the woodpecker triathlon or something? We still laugh about it. 2

That bird is lucky that he didn't get his pecker bent ! 1
bhunterED
Scrolling through the forums last night I stumbled across this thread and it reminded me of a trailcam pic from a few years ago.

bhunterED
On Sunday in the same area as the pic in my post above I saw two of these peckerheads knocking the hell out of a few trees. As cool as it was to see them after listening to them for 10-15 minutes I was ready for them to leave.
