So I closed the weld shop at 4 today. Something in my gut was calling to me, and as a firm believer of doing what my gut say, I left for my ground blind. Its now  4:15 . I dont have long but its going to be kinda uncomfortable. just a tarp on cold wet ground , no chair. my  shop bibs and a dirty sweatshirt. Oh well. Things a starting to wind down, no deer sightings and im starting to think about winding things up for the evening, figured i got about ten minutes max. I look over to the left  as far as i could see and i see a deer. now im thinking right away its a doe.Well let me tell ya ,that thought quickly left my mind. Now I passed and a small six point yesterday at 80 yards in an open field. I wasnt about to do that again. so i pull up my trusty smoke pole and size him up. He is just standing there looking around eating on soybeans. plenty of time to put a good shot on him. So thats what I did. I didnt see him run but I heard crashing, so I figured he split. Nope. about sixty yards.I walked over to where I shot and im looking around for hair or blood,I dont see anything. Im starting to panic instantly.then I see it . the  Soybean Buck. Not much of a blood trail when you drop them on the spot.its more like a blood puddle. So thats three deer in two days. I think the butcher shop is about to be open for business. I called the guy I left at work. he said but you havent even been gone an hour. I smiled.

Last update for the night. I got Permission from the landowner to continue the track. He has a large property and allows no hunting, so my buck should be safe from people in there. We pushed him a long way today and after watching him in the ravine, I really Think he’s gonna lay up and die if we leave him be. It’s gonna be a sleepless night, but I’ll be back after him in the morning.

You should def find him even if he isnt dead with that injury he will def stiffen up and you will catch up to him quickly. Blood in the snow is so deceiving as a little bit will spread like paint. But if he is falling and bleeding along you'll be on him right away.  Good luck and would be great to track down the first buck on the new property!

If he hasnt stopped bleeding by now the he's not gonna.  I bet he's expired.  Sounds like you have a good chance of recovery.  Good luck!

Is anyone down in 8x / Hornell area this week? In changing locations from 8A and am curious about snow..

I live and hunt in 8x. (Work in hornell). Snow is around 10 to 12 inches and is starting to get really heavy/wet. We got probably another 2 inches or fresh stuff today.

Thanks Tracy. I have access to some property in the hills south of town off 36. That's an hour and a half drive for me on a good day though so wasn't sure what to expect before I show up on Thursday. Forecast just calls for cold.

Out back for a morning sir
Put my nephew up in the tower. He shot his first deer there a couple years back. It’s had some upgrades. I’m sure he will like the buddy heater! Hope he sees something. I’m down in the far stand. Snow is still noisy as all heck. It’s basically a sitting game till this crunch leaves which may be April lol

Staying in to insure all plow operations are done. Can't pull into my normal parking spot off the road because of the drifts so have to park alongside the main road. Late morning through evening doe hunt for me.

Back at for more in 3g. Kicked up a doe / button on walk back yesterday. Played cat and mouse for a bit as I tried to figure if she was a he. Eventually whatever it was scooted out of dodge.

Posted on a rock wall this am. Saw some movement ways out while still dark and a headlamp on neighboring property. Hopefully something gets pushed to my side of the property line and not vice versa.

35°, drizzling and light west wind. Good luck all.

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

Just want to relay an experience I had this weekend regarding hunting regulations and other hunters.
I've had several  hunter's tell me last weekend(10/12/2020) that muzzleloader was open, it is not. I also had two other hunters last weekend confront me as to why my son was carrying around a rifle and hunting deer. I calmly explained the youth weekend and the rules around it. After that everything was cool and we continued our hunt.
I know at the end of the day we're all trying to participate in a sport we love and maybe harvest some game. My thought is to just make sure you're up on your local hunting regulations. Not just so you are within the rules, but also so you can assert your right to be where you are, hunting the way you're hunting.
I know when I have been operating outside of the regulations I have appreciated a person respectfully correcting my ignorance and I try to pay it forward by being informed and respectfully educating when required.
Thanks for listening, off my SB...

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo
