There is a house in my neighborhood that has a coupe of full body deer targets in the yard. On my jog Sunday morning the owner of the house was outside doing some gardening so it stopped by on my way back. Did the introductions and found out he hunts up near Monticello but didn't hunt last year cause of health issues. He is probably around 70. We talked about the neighborhood our families and out plans for the afternoon. I was going to my brothers house to shoot bow and to have some venison. He was very jealous to say the least. (he can no longer shoot bow but is thinking about a crossbow). On my way out I had to stop buy and drop off some packages of tenderloin for him, its been two years since his last taste of venison. Well you think I gave him 5 pounds of gold. He and his wife were so happy, it really made me feel good that I could share last years harvest and now have a new friend!!6 points

Controlling it is the key for me because I get it all the time to varying degrees. I Love it!!! With a natural high like that who needs drugs? I would get amped up with each approaching season as a kid, and still do. And by the time i climb into my stand or blind, for that time at least, all is right in my world. Hearing the "crunch...crunch....crunch..." of deer approaching in the dried leaves starts the old ticker pounding as it gets closer and then when the deer pops in sight.........full blown...holy smoke...I can't swallow, I hope he don't hear me breathing.....uh...am I remembering to breath....can he hear my heart..........ok....just calm done and get a grip......it's only a deer for goodness sake! Yup....it's only a deer....its only deer hunting.....those who don"t hunt don't understand it....but for us that do there is no feeling like it. I have always said if I stopped getting that feeling I would quit hunting and I stand by that, but I don't ever see it happening. Buck fever is he only illness I pray I catch each year!2 points

Was on the tractor at 2pm ...going to put in the steel fence poles for getting first section of fence up..and kicked out a herd of deer...2 doe and a fawn ran right at me and veered into our woods and a nice wide 6pt buck just stood between the wooded fence post trying to figure out which way to go...first buck of the whole year spotted...Now I'm stoked...Sore back but got 10 steel posts pounded in and 8 more to go...next time that buck will follow the girls in to our wood lot if spooked...Hitting those QH heavy...during the day...good to know... We have yet another neighbor 1/4 mile from this area and right next to another area logging now...hate to say it...well not really...but I hope they log everyone's oaks....ssshhh....wink wink...lol1 point

I have heard about that place and want to check it out some day. This place I went to did fenced hunts and birds, big place with 1400 acres. Real nice bird fields and we found plenty of left overs from other hunts. Flushed 14 altogether and my dog had many points, we went all afternoon until the dog was wore out.1 point

What is detailed about counting 5 points? I just don't understand the complexity. The current AR is a 3 on a side rule to help protect the majority of yearling bucks... that is the objective... hunters should be more concerned about the objective than how bad they are at counting to 5... a hunter that puts having to fill a tag before responsiblity to the law IS an unsafe hunter in my eyes. How many times do you hear a hunter say after the kill " I could have sworn he was a 6 pointer, but he had no brow tines when I got up to him"? With no AR in place that is a mistaken identity.. because there was no reason for him have to count more than a 3" horn to shoot... with AR's in place that is an irresponsible hunter that just broke the law... its that simple. NO EXCUSES.1 point

Air fare was $1700.00 round trip per ticket.... Yup... but it is a 15 hour flight... I got the hunt (5 days, 3 animals) at an NWTF banquet for $2000.00 (Deal of the century!!! Got the 2014 hunt for 5 days 2 animals for $1500.00!! STEAL!!) add in the 2 extra days (1 before and 1 after required) and the 3 days we wanted to do the tourist thing @ $200.00 per day each person... (Includes food, laundry service daily, room, etc) The Zebra was just under $1700 and the Gemsbok was just under $1800. So... I'm thinking with everything it was $10,000.00 But 6 animals.. 10 days in Africa... Next time I won't have the tourist days so that will knock the cost down a lot.. figure I've got the 2014 hunt and then save for the 2017 hunt...1 point

NFA, who the hell are you talking to and why are you spitting out abbreviations like RifleShartShot used to?1 point

a rack does not prove out and explain the age of a deer biz-roworld... especially how many points a deer has as well... that 6 says young deer all over it. you can have a 10 point that is a 2.5 year old, doesnt matter... but atleast you know that deer has pretty good genetics tho1 point

Just make sure its what you want I own a number of rifles from $100 - $1500 they all have there good and bad to them you need to shot wht you can handle You need to get the girlfriend in to the shooting sports and then in the stand with you I find that alot of people use the wrong gun for the area some use 300 mags and 375 mags on deer alot of waste on the meat I use a 22-250 with 60grain hornady of a 243 with 100 grain hornady its all shot placement and i can shoot just as far and dropthem right in there tracks like the big rounds Just get what you feal good about shooting and hunt safe and smart and good luck1 point

If I was to unknowingly shoot a deer that had CWD (and the odds against that are staggering where I live), I guess I see no difference between disposing of the remains in the woods vs. the critter dying and flopping there on his own.1 point

I only bought 5 . I put Bubba's name on 4 of them but none of those were pulled .1 point

I don't use a lever gun but my hand loads for my bolt action I always seat the head out a little bit further to create less head space. If you have been using this guns for years maybe you have shot out some of your rifling and this will help you out.1 point

Truck is ooc for today. Ladies coming to get us. Number 6 cyl misfire. Checked through problems in order and looks like either wire to injector or pcm. Injector was pulled and put in another cyl and she was sparying fine. No spraying when in 6. Coils all good. Same w/wires and plugs. Ugh...gotta leave truck and come back down to get it once fixed. Im thinking pcm is toast...online search seems to show this is more common than the wire going bad. Was sitting in same said bar and grill at noon for lunch and planned to watch bills game. Then i noticed the sign and browns jerseys everywhere. Bar is north central ohio browns backers homebase. I left after the reception i got for cheering the first bills td....lol.1 point

I mean for god's sake, it's deer hunting, it's supposed to be fun, not a competition on who get's the biggest deer......the deer camp's of old are going by the wayside and we're seeing more and more solo hunter's consumed by the quest to harvest the biggest deer....growing big deer with food plot's and sitting over them for deer is not what I enjoy, to me this turned it into more of a business than something we do for pleasure.1 point

Protest - nothing more. Ar is not needed where I hunt and would have little real effect. I don't shoot younger bucks because I am looking for bigger racks, but because I like seeing the older's ones. But I have no desire to be telling another hunter what he can shoot just to maybe make it easier for me. In fact, if I saw mature bucks every time out, it would be like having prime rib every night - not as special after awhile. A few of the AR supporters are genuinely motivate by the desire to see a more balanced age structure. But I feel the overwhelming majority who clamor for it statewide would never be heard from if they didn't equate it with making it easier to get a bigger rack/more points. For every AR supporter you hear talk about waiting for and taking a 3.5 or older buck you will hear 20 or more talk about waiting for a 6 pt or better with no concern about it's age. Somehow it's bad to shoot a spike or 4 pt that are 2.5 or less, but OK to shoot a 6 or 8 even though it may be only a 1.5. So if AR is forced into my area where little real difference will result, I will legally protest it. Educate for the right reasons - don't legislate for the wrong ones.1 point

16 x 20 with 16 x 15 ft loft area that hangs over front porch... my loft will only fit 2 beds, but if the pitch of the roof was raised to 12/12 or even a gambrel style... you could maybe get as many as 6 beds in the loft.1 point

If I had to look back and say what I would of done differently it would be a full basement under the main cabin. We now have a 16 x 20 extension with a full basement off the right side.1 point

I had a bloody leg poke out of a contractor bag one time when the garbage men went to toss it into the truck. These two guys (black) freaked out!! They called the Amherst Police woh called the Town Highway Dept. The garbage guys thought I whacked my wife up................!!! The town took it all and told me if the EVER gave me a hard time again, give them a call and they would take care of it. Pretty cool on their part, IMO. Funny stuff I guess when the guys first saw the bone. They were screaming!!1 point

i live and hunt in 3J and we were the first to have AR in NY state, started about 6 or so years ago. i have never shot a buck to small, i just sit and wait till i can count the antlers, then make the shot. its not really as tough as some hunters might think it is, i might add that AR has most of us hunting bigger bucks now anyway, not uncomman to see nicely racked 8 and even 10 pointers in my area now when 10 years ago we were dubbed the land of the spiked buck.1 point

The bow shop I purchased my new bow from recommend the Grim Reaper mechanical blades. It is a 3 blade head. it came with the "dummy" blade to shoot and make sure it is sited the same as your field tips. I have NOT shot a deer with the new blades yet, but the "dummy" shoots exactly the same as my field tips. Reading everyones posts, I am a bit nervous on these Grim Reapers now. They seem solid (and when I broke one, the company replaced it no questions asked, which was good Customer Service). hmmmm.......1 point

Well, there ya go. The silent majority is indeed silent, aren't they? So what good are they? And who cares about their opinions and how they think the world is suffering? The fact is that the organizations that you are whining about are active, energetic, advocates for what they believe. If you don't like it then take your whining somewhere besides internet forums and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Nobody cares that you don't have the spine to do anything but complain. I get a bit irked everytime I see these people claiming "Well gosh, their views don't represent me". Get over it ..... if there are so many people who disagree with ARs and the NYB views then stop your crying and get involved like those people did. If you can't work inside of those groups then start your own. Put your damn money and effort where your mouth is instead of just moaning about those that do. I'm sorry if I appear to be coming on a little strong about this, but it is just something that finally had to be said. Enough of this worthless bashing. If you have such strong feelings about these issues then do something useful and worthwhile about it.1 point

For me its nothing but cut on contact... Stingers are all i use.. Sharp angle shots will make you lose a deer many times with heads like reapers and even rage. Cut on contacts will give you more penatration and great blood trails!!! IMHO1 point

First off don't short yourself and get a rifle that can handle the type of hunting you will be doing. Remember you will or may have this rifle the rest of your life, the girlfrend on the other hand might be old news by hunting season and you will be kicking yourself for buying a cheap gun!1 point
