There was a bit of confusion at the Dicks Sporting goods store this morning. When I was ready to pay for my purchases of gun powder and bullets the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me." Making a mental note to complain to Harper about the gun registry people running amok. I did just as she had instructed. When the hysterical shrieking and alarms finally subsided, I found out that she was referring to my credit card. I have been asked to shop elsewhere in the future. They need to make their instructions to us seniors a little clearer !10 points

I have been avoiding this site and these recent gun debates as of late as I feel that it way to soon in the wake of tragedy especially Sandy Hook that hit very close to home. I've was horrified to see the scum bag mayor of NY mayor Bloomburg screaming control even before the bodies of these victims had grown cold. No one can wrap their head around this tragedy so they are looking for reasons (Mental illness, gun control etc..) because we just can't fathom that there are such monsters in the world. I have always expressed my right-wing views about such things as gun control and President Obama but I have to give credit where its due and I was very grateful that the White house and the President took their time to express the liberal agenda and brushed off reporters and comments about gun control in the first days of this tragedy and expressed remorse and sympathy for the familys. I wish all liberals and even control advocates would have handled this the way Obama and his admin did. As a father of a young child and member of a church that was devastated by this, there has been nothing more disgusting then what I have seen from different advocates in the wake of this. I will reserve my opinions for the future when logic can overcome emotion and not so soon that I disrespect and disgrace the dead with my political views. I apologize for my rant. God be with everyone in Sandy Hook!4 points

After months, and months of going to court on BS charges, I have finally emerged victorious! I was scheduled for a trial on traffic tickets tonight. These tickets were for no insurance (I had insurance-got a ticket anyway), failure to update my new address on my drivers license (wrong again-my drivers abstract proved I submitted my info), and driving with a suspended registration (this suspension was actually rescinded-it was a screw up on the part of the insurance company). The final result was failure to prosecute, case dismissed. The problem, of course, was that my car was impounded ($700 to get it), I lost my job, and had to put out a lot of money for a rental car. It wiped me right out. Talk about a bittersweet victory! I just wish I knew how to recoup these losses.3 points

I agree with Irish Redneck: Do not ban guns or types of guns/ammo for civilians if the same are OK for the govt. (police) Additionally: No new laws that restrict my ability to defend myself and family. Repeal those (gun-free zones) that do. Obama wants to ban certain guns in America. Why doesn't he want to ban bulldozers in Israel...or land mines in Afghanistan...or war everywhere? If children are worth protecting, ALL children are worth protecting! I am sick of political posturing by our warmonger leaders.3 points

I dont understand what doesnt make sense here. Unless the facts in that video are incorrect, what is there to dispute? It seems we have a knack of taking something that has been proven in other countries to be a failure, and think that we can do the same thing here and make it work. You know what it is when you do the same thing expecting different results?3 points

I hurt inside for a number of reasons. First for the people that were lost in this tragic killing and the innocent people we have lost in the past to the same situation. The killing of innocent people goes so against my thought process, I find it hard to understand. Second I hurt for this country, for no other time in the past do we seem adrift as now, energy, jobs, health care and gun control. It seems it's always a battle to get to where you want to go. You are supposed to look up to the people that lead you and guide you but now all they do trash each other to get the upper hand. I am a Dad, I am a hard working American, I am a Democrat, I am a gun owner and I hunt. Being a Dad I'm watching my two young daughters grow into something I could never imagine possible. Having a child is a blessing, it's a breath of new life in your sole. Then you look into their eyes and see all they have to endure. My 8 year old had to be sat down this week so we could talk to her about her feelings dealing with the shooting. I never remembered that growing up. My 13 year old the same thing but you can talk about a plan of action because they are of age. Republicans, Democrats, NRA the 2nd amendment, I really don't care. We all need to come together to pass some good laws, in the names of the the slain individuals. I don't want all guns banned. We need to educate, train and if need be register gun owners. We need to find some common ground where we can all be proud and say we are Americans!!!!! You can poke holes in this any way you like, i just needed to write it and share.3 points

I am for certain changes. I have no interest in ARs or similar firearms. But I don't agree that they should be banned. Like Doc I believe that we should get rid of the state to state laws and institute a Nationwide law with more thorough background and mental health checks, before anyone can obtain a firearm of any kind. Some may argue that this will cause longer delays to getting a firearm but with today's technology it is easy to set up a computerized database containing the necessary information where licensed dealers can easily submit a person's information and get criminal background as well as mental health results within minutes. It's already done with long guns. It just needs to be more thorough. But then we have to consider how deep should they be allowed to go? I know that no matter what changes are made, they will not prevent the criminals from getting their hands on illegal firearms. But we need to start somewhere.2 points

I want change. I want the entire state by state gun control system scrapped, and replaced by a uniform national set of laws that go through each existing law, using very stringent criteria, to evaluate which ones really have proveable value. Those that don't pass muster simply get scrapped. No more state laws. No more duplicate laws. No more redundancy. No more nonsensical laws that are in place to only serve as harrassment of legitimate gun owners. Clean it all up with a goal of getting the whole mess down to a few pages of uniform, effective laws that apply across the country. Of course I am a realist and understand that this level of interstate cooperation will never happen. But that is the change that I want.2 points

I would like a change....starting with throwing out the useless ones on the books they either don't enforce or that do nothing to enhance public safety. I wouldd also like crazy stiff laws for those using a firearm in ANY crime. Like life in a box or Death sentence.2 points

No locks for me. I have mine stashed in strategic locations around the house as well as couple of aluminum bats as well. What's the point if you need to defend yourself or your family are you going to ask the home invader to wait a second while you unlock the trigger lock?1 point

Are you guys for real or what?? Sure don't look like an AR to me in that video. Tell me, how do you guys come up with this stuff? I tell you, some of you better pray every night that mental evaluations are NEVER required to purchase a gun, because a good many of you wouldn't be allowed to own a sharp pencil never mind a gun. Unbelievable.1 point

I'm not sure about the 4 handgun / 2 handgun thing or even about which gun was actually used to kill the victims, but the weapon being cleared by cops in the video looks like the shotgun that was reportedly found in the trunk. At least to me it does.1 point

Would it hurt my feelings personally if military-style weapons & large capacity clips were banned? No, I don't a gun like this, and have no plans to in the future. BUT...as an NRA member & multiple gun owner...I say no changes. I don't believe for one second that the anti-gun crowd (at least in the US) will be happy until ALL forms of firearms and yes, hunting also are made illegal. And that, for me, isn't an option.1 point

very much disagree with you. Putting a stand up on state land is similar to leaving your canoe on a state beach. Again, i wouldn't get in somebodies stand, but to let hell break loose if someone climbs in yours is a little silly to me.1 point

Now that all deer seasons are closed (in this shotgun only area), it is legal for me to head up to my target range (in the woods behind the house) to do some target shooting with my centerfire rifle. And, as a matter of fact, that's exactly what I did yesterday when I dragged out the .270 to sight it in. I probably raised a few questions in the minds of people around the valley.1 point

Grouse is one of my favorite things to hunt. Its really nice to have a healthy wild bird population that most people don't take advantage of. I typically will hunt them with a 20ga, IC, MO size 6 shot. Here a picture of one I got today after work.1 point

"We all need to come together to pass some good laws, in the names of the the slain individuals." Really? How many more laws can stop tragedies like this? The shooter broke a lot of laws, as most murderers do. If he broke a dozen laws last Friday, will another 20 laws help? Will another 50 laws help? Will sacrificing some of your liberty stop another tragedy? Murder is against the law.....did that stop a tragedy? Bringing a gun into a "gun free zone" (aka potential place for a mass shooting) is against the law.....did that help stop a tragedy? In fact all mass shootings occur in "gun free zones." Sacrificing liberty for a political agenda is ridiculous. Psycho killers will carry out their acts regardless of laws. Let me ask you.....how many guns were used on 9/11 to kill 3K + people? How many guns did Tim McVeigh use in killing those people in Oklahoma City? How many guns were used in the school slaughter in Michigan in 1937? Your democrat party wants to take your freedoms......think about it. When fellow gun owners fall for the rhetoric of gun grabbing democrats and their complicit media, we ALL lose. It was a horrible tragedy last Friday carried out by a very sick individual. Law abiding gun owners like us were NOT INVOLVED in this, and we should not be sulking. We are not responsible and stop feeling "guilty" that you are a law abiding gun owner! It is a tragedy when fellow gun owners start to buckle and become willing to surrender their freedoms. If we gun owners don't get together and fight Cuomo and obama, we will surely all hang separately.1 point

If you don't belong to the NRA you're foolish. You don't have to accept, or agree with everything they say and do, but if you are against them, you're against most firearms freedom in the government's eyes, and can be easily duped into "common sense" legislation that takes away your gun rights. The NRA is the most informative gun rights group in the country. They give you the facts. Form your own opinion about them, but get the facts none the less. If you choose to hate them, the government loves you, because you are not thinking for yourself, you are letting the government tell you what to think.1 point
