  4. Couple from tonight (9/2)..... the only hard horn buck is the nice 9'er I've had my eye on all summer. His 3 buddies are all still fuzzies. They could be clean by the morning for all I know.

  5. Honestly, no buck could make me pass up everything. I'm not a trophy hunter. I enjoy all aspects of hunting; the hunt, the kill the processing and the consumption. Preparing for the hunt, getting together with friends & family etc. are all apart of it also. It's who I am. But of course, your mileage may vary............................

  6. Not sure if this forum ever had this topic before. With the season approaching, lets see a PICTURE of everybodys biggest NY buck. Stories with no pics, need not apply. Non NY bucks, need not apply. Here's mine. Opening day of gun season 2007, first light. Putnam County (3N). Basket 8. Never measured him, but I would guess he's like 80" or so? No clue. Sorry for quality, its a pic of a pic. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2

  18. I really don't do the "trophy" thing. Sure if a monster walks by and I get it, I will be very happy. But my hunting really has more to it than just collecting heads for the wall. So to answer the question, there is no buck that could cause me to target just him exclusively. I may spend extra time in an area where he hangs out, but as far as passing up his lesser friends, that isn't really very likely.

  21. Hey guys I am 30 years old and I live in Suffolk of long island. I have been hunting now for 3 years and I am looking to get together with a group of guys and form a hunting/fishing club. Since most of my friends are not into this wonderful sport I am looking to meet a bunch of people who can share this love of the outdoors together. Sharing hunting experiences, scouting, possible lease upstate etc. If you are interested please feel free to reply. Age does not apply here so any lifetime hunters that would be willing to help pass this wonderful sport on to the up and coming generations are all welcome! Thanks and good luck out there!

  23. First of all, you have to understand that any passage of gun control is interpreted by the voting public as being "tough on crime". Of course that linkage is ridiculous, but the anti-gun folks have done a better job of selling that bogus thought than we have done in trying to fight it. Hell, we even have some gun owners on here that are believers in gun control. So gun control is a way of getting votes, an that is what politicians are all about. So when we had all these kids being killed by that mentally defective goof-ball, the politicians swooped in like a bunch of carrion-eating vultures and figured that the time and circumstances were correct for sliding in a major attack on the 2nd amendment. As they say in politics, "no good crisis should ever be wasted". See, you're trying to apply logic and reason to an issue that runs completely on emotion. The anti-gun forces are masters at manipulating emotion. We aren't even in their league when it comes to that. And the anti-gun forces have the politicians in their pocket. So when you add all that up, it makes perfect sense. No, none of this will effect anything other than applying another layer of harassment on the backs of gun owners. And that is the basis behind the Safe Act, plain and simple. There is nothing in the Safe Act that would have prevented the tragedy at Sandy hook. The only defense against this constant barrage of harassment is to make politicians more afraid of gun owners than they are of the anti-gun fanatics. we do have an opportunity to make that happen when the next election comes around if we can just stay as incensed as we were when the Safe Act was snuck in. If we can discipline ourselves to vote as a unified block, and in effect become a group of "one-issue" voters, we do have the rare opportunity to show that gun owners are not an easy mark. Can we do it? ...... That remains to be seen.

  28. That's the school of thought that was given to me that I live by. I check them all the time, even after shooting targets. It sounds like some people have had issues with them blowing up during the process of shooting though, which then got me overthinking that maybe I need to retire my arrows every time I shoot something....

  44. Bill Leary was a well known butcher in the Capitol district, he is no longer processing deer. Does anyone else know of a butcher in the Albany area or Capitol district. Yes I know how to do it but its just easier to drop off and have it done.

  45. The correct order of things has become a stacked deck. The correct order will have all of the citizens firearms confiscated prior to people revolting, and by then it's too late. The citizens that do not own guns today are not slaves because of those of us who do. "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf" -George Orwell Go back to having leaders that follow the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights and we know what we will have after the storm.

  46. I think for taste and texture they are right in between puddle ducks and divers. I have a very good diving duck recipe that would probably work just fine for the goose as well. Take 2 pounds of bonless duck breast add 6 cups of chicken broth add 2 chopped carrots 3 diced potatos 3 chopped stalks of celery bring to boil add old work boot simmer for 3 hours remove old work boot throw remaining contents on the garden and eat the work boot.

  47. Yuck..one of the reasons I don't hunt geese is because I simply haven't had a meal of them that I ever wanted a second bite of. God bless you for keeping their numbers in check as best as possible.

  49. I think the emergency powers so be re-defined to for end-of-the-world scenario's, natural disasters, and war-time needs like during WW II. Any other use should be an impeachable offense and automatically re-tract the forced legisation. Cuomo needs to be keep out of any additional political offices once his term is done. We do not need any more trampling on any part of the Bill of Rights, Constitution, and state constitution. NY may become the next police state. People need to vote by their choice - no more vote because I am a party member of... or vote for XXX because my religious leader said to. They need to vote for who is best for the state as a whole and that uphold the laws and rights for all citizens of this state. If they truly want the gun crimes by the real criminals to go away, hand-down 100-year sentences to all the gang-bangers and serial murderers and send them to an deserted atoll to live out their life . They obviously do not want be part of our society, so they can form their own there. Or they can actually carry out the death sentences - none of this sitting on death row for 10 years of appeals and end up just sitting in prison for life. You commit multiple murders, you get to face god earlier than intended. Until then, we need to keep on our elected officials that we voted for (or got stuck with and are suppose to represent us) to use good judgement by providing them with the proper information to enact just laws and uphold the constitution that they are sworn to follow in their term governance. If they step on our rights and support unjust laws, they get the boot from office the next election. Meanwhile, my ammo is my ammo - 2 years old or 10 years old. If you have a couple boxes same manufacturer, the shells/casings are the same. What are you supposed to do if they enact this, disassemble and see which one has a code on the base? The idiots in Albany need to have an actual firearms/ammunition expert give them an education. Gee, isn't Remington in this state - they could send someone over to Albany.
