  6. I took off of work on Monday to get in one last day of hunting this year (I'm busy for the rest of ML season). After seeing no shoot-able bucks all bow and regular season, the extra day in the woods was well worth it. Small 8 pointer, but it's the biggest buck I've ever shot in 3H. The wound on its leg was a previous injury. My shot went in from the other side of the deer.

  10. Well, I was able to break in my new rifle yesterday morning on the last day of the regular gun season...12/08/13! I ended up taking an 11 Point Buck at 9:40 AM hounding after a doe!

  11. I hunted this weekend with no gloves on. If I did they were thin jersey material that I used during Bow season. The only reason I can do this is using a hand muff. I have had one for 6 years and it was the best money I have spent on hunting gear. I have never had cold hands using it and no bulky gloves. The one I have is neoprene so it is water proof.

  14. Well bagged a buck on the last day of regular season! I went up to camp with my buddy, was not really expecting anything because I hunted 10 days straight from the opener, and saw plenty of deer, just not anything I wanted to shoot. (Except a doe I took) This large buck decided to step out. An 8, but weighed more than me, lol. (I am 5' 10" 187)

  16. I already know *what* I'm getting, I just don't know *where*. When my wife turned 50 I told her that I was kidnapping her and we were going on a trip. She knew when and to pack for warm weather (her old day is toward the end of November). She didn't know until we hit the gate at the airport where we were going. She seemed to be ok with going to St. Lucia. So, my 60th is coming up and I know we're leaving Christmas Eve morning and coming back the 4th, but the only thing I know is to pack for warm. The swim trunks and snorkel gear are already to go. She's a copy cat but I'm not biaching....

  21. Those pictures look awfully wet. That stream looks like it leaves it's banks after a light rainfall. Better find something that can tolerate being flooded on occasion.

  22. reporting system has got to be changed or deer numbers will go down and down and down. they think fewer deer have been taken then really have been. they issue more permits the following year. they then push to get permits filled when all really would be if everybody reported their deer.

  24. hi new here i have been lurking for a long time and decided to join tonite. I deer hunt mainly with a rifle but may have to get into bow for my son, he is very anxious to get started. That is how i found this site, i was looking for places to small game hunt where i could take him where we would be possibly moving around some instead of just sitting in one spot and i came across this site with reference tov rabbit hunting. i spend most of my time "hunting", I haven't even fired a shot in the woods for 3 yrs, in Sterling forest park. Thanks

  27. I knew right away it was fake by the type of deer, like everyone else. Reminds me of the time a guy on a fishing forum posted a trail cam pic of mt lion eating a deer that was taken in Dutchess County. I found the same pic on a Texas hunting forum 3-4 years ago. Why people send around fake pics, just boggles my mind.

  38. I bought a pair of the high rubber ones from field and stream (1000gr) for 100$. I like em alot actually... Keeps me warm in the high teens low 20 with one pair of socks on. Nice and water proof. I didn't think it was going to be as good as they turned out to be since a guy tried to talk me out of them when he saw me holding them. I couldn't afford more at the time and was in a pinch to get something ASAP. But I like them a lot.

  40. Gun season in the Southern Zone is definitely too long! Probably half the reason everyone is on here saying they had a crappy year. I don't know how any deer survive the month long gun season!

  42. I hunted this past weekend with no gloves, or a very light pair that I wear for bow hunting. I use a muff, and then toss a couple of hand warmer packs in there. It works very well.

  43. Heres my 2013 Regular season buck! Hes not the big boy I was after, but Im happy with him and have a good story to go with him. Earlier this year at work, I met a girl, Sara, that is from Cypress and goes to one of the local colleges. She was doing an internship at one of my client's offices. We developed a good friendship, and in talking, I mentioned to her that I hunt. She told me she has always wanted to go hunting, and that she was thinking of getting her safety course done and buying her license this year. I helped her with all of the info she needed, but she never had a chance to take the course, with her busy schedule. A coupl of weeks ago, I was talking to her and asked if she would like to come along with me on a hunt this week, since I was on vacation, and she had Thanksgiving break from school. She said yes, and we planned it for this morning. She got to my place at 5:30 this morning, and I got the truck loaded up and we headed out. We were in my newly placed double ladder stand before daylight and sat there talking a bit and enjoying the woods, and great scenery. Around 9:30, my hunting partner, Mark, gave me a call and told me he was going to do a still hunt, and asked where Id like him to go, so if he bumped anything out, it might head toward us. I told him where I thought would work well and he said he would see us soon. I explained to Sara what was going to happen, and told her that if Mark disturbed any deer, they would either go one of two ways. One way would put them right in our laps. Less than 10 minutes later, I see a deer heading across the field, right toward us, so I nudged Sara to show her the deer. I decided that unless it was a small buck, I would take the deer if given the chance. As it crossed the field, I noticed it had a very nice, big body, so we watched as it approached the edge of the woods. It stopped before entering the woods, and stood there, looking around. As it entered the wood line, I noticed it had a rack, so I put my scope on him and saw he was outside the ears. That was the last I looked at his rack, and I looked his body over. He was a tank, so I started concentrating on a shot. He got onto a horse trail that goes by my stand at 30 yards and started trotting toward us. I got my gun ready, and accidentally made a noise on the blind material. He stood there looking at us, with his vitals behind a tree. After 30 seconds or so, he continued down the trail and I got my muzzle loader in position for a shot in the first shooting lane. As he stepped into the lane, I gave him a quick "mehhh" and he stopped, slightly quartering to us. I put my crosshair right on the front of his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. I heard the impact and he dropped his tail and head and started on a dead run. After giving him 2 hours, and a 100 - 125 yard track, we found him piled up in the old apple orchard. Hes a great 2 1/2 year old with 8 scorable points, but he has a 9h small point and you can see where a 10th small one had broken off. BTW, I have a ton of trail cam pics of this deer, including a series of him fighting with another buck. Ill post those in my hunting journal later on today.
