What a slap in the face to the victims of the crimes that put these criminals behind bars...Not only are they victimized by the criminal at the time of the crime but now they have to be victimized again paying for his college degree while he serves time for victimizing them!3 points

Slow hand, I agree that WE know that this is just Ted being Ted. But, the general public sees him as a lunatic in camo saying crazy things. And that reflects badly on us as hunters.2 points

I bought one in .223 just before the king and his minions back doored in the SAFE act. I love mine. Its fun and cheap to shoot. I have had zero problems with it. I put a vented forend and pistol grip stock on it. But after the safe act, I had to put the old stock back on it, and in 30 seconds I had a nice safe rifle that isn't scary and is way less dangerous,,,LOL Congrats….. Im sure you'll like it2 points

I like the Encore. Pistol that gives you many capabilities for calibers. Mine is in 308 win. It is a long barrel (15") but they come different lengths. sub 1" group at 100 yards and softball sized groups at 2002 points

These crazy animal laws make us think lawmakers everywhere are itching to be comedians. 1. When in Alaska, do not ever shove a live moose out of an airplane midflight. 2. And you can shoot a bear, but don't wake him up from sleeping to take his photograph. 3. In the town of Juneau, AK, keep your flamingo out of barber shops. 4. In Arkansas, make sure all cows walking down Main Street are home before 1:00 PM on Sunday. 5. In Belvedere, CA, dogs are not allowed in public places without their masters on leashes (they may want to rethink the wording of this one). 6. Apparently dogs in Colorado can read, because the dog catcher must notify them of potential impounding by posting a notice on a tree for three days prior. 7. Hartford, CT dogs are not so fortunate, because it is illegal to educate them. 8. Cats in heat must be silenced in Columbus, GA, where they are not allowed to howl after 9 PM. 9. Same goes for dogs in Little Rock, AR, only they must cease barking after 6 PM. 10. Any fishing in Idaho must not be done while sitting on top of a camel. 11. In Chicago, IL, French Poodles are deprived of the arts, since they are not allowed into the opera. 12. Iowa cowboys must restrain their horses from eating fire hydrants (can it really be that hard?). 13. Cinema-goers in Maryland must leave their pet lion at home (are they allowed to show them DVDs?). 14. In Massachusetts, gorillas can only sit in the front seat, since they are not allowed in the back seat of any car. 15. Much to the disappointment of Reed City, MI, cats, owners are not allowed to also have a pet bird (there goes all the fun). 16. Dog and cat owners in North Carolina must keep them separated, since it is illegal for them to fight (try enforcing that one). 17. Motorists in Pennsylvania who see horses heading their way must pull off the road and cover their cars with camouflage to blend into the countryside (yeah, like this actually happens). 18. South Dakota horses are not allowed into the Fountain Inn unless they are wearing pants (on both sets of legs?). 19. While in Leahy, WA, only indoor nose-blowing is permitted, since doing so outside might scare a horse and make it panic. 20. West Virginians will be relieved to know that picking up road kill and taking it home for supper is perfectly legal (yes, this does actually happen). 21. Foxport, WI dogs must stuff their feelings rather than acting viciously, including excessively barking, growling, or acting in a menacing manner. 22. Photographing rabbits from January to April in Wyoming is not allowed without an official permit (who's going to tell - the rabbit?).1 point

Well after not really having the money available to jump in to action when we were allowed to buy AR's I have been actively searching for a semi-auto that will shoot surplus ammo without breaking the bank. After searching and finding a local shop that was carrying Saiga 7.62x39's for $529 I started saving my pennies to get one. Well after reaching my goal and calling down they went from $529 on 1/15/2014 to $599, that sent me over the edge. So off to Gun Broker I went, 15 minutes later and a call to another shop, I ended up paying a heck of a lot less. Saiga 7.62x39 hunter model, AK variant, Excited to get my hands on it to see what it will be able to do. Anyone have any experience with them?1 point

I spent some time down in Canadice last weekend, visiting friends and snapping pics along the way (as seen in some other recent posts) of some things I found interesting. I took a walk Sunday morning. The snow was just deep enough to leave me wanting my snowshoes that were back home! A couple different "tree stands" are seen. One basic, one deluxe.1 point

Great news... I remember the moaning and the WAILING of hunters who had grown up shooting shotguns at deer when the season opened up for rifles here a few years ago... It was similar, albeit to a lesser extent , when they allowed Sunday hunting for deer a few years prior to that. It's just human nature to be uncomfortable with change, regardless if it makes any sense or not.1 point

I didn't make the original statement but what it means is this... There was a legal challenge to the "safe" act. The court which reviewed the challenge basically upheld the law. There is one section, however, that the court struck down. The law references a "muzzle break" of which no such thing exists unless the muzzle is broken. (It should have been muzzle brake). Due to this illiteracy on the part of the lawmakers, the court ruled this provision invalid. However, there is still some controversy. I haven't heard anyone explain how this ruling will work in practice. Some people have claimed their local law enforcement states the ruling is only valid in the district covered by the court and not the entire state. I know that the ruling actually happened. I personally can't speak to the rest. Like anything else, the only way to know for sure is if someone gets arrested and either convicted or released.1 point

Ted's definitely an interesting human specimen, whether you love or hate him..!?! Not someone I'd prefer to endorse my political campaign. Only the news is making a big deal out of this, everyone else simply knows it's Ted being himself!1 point

Fair chase is something man made up to make themselves feel better about how they hunt. If you want true fair chase, go out there buck naked and with nothing but some rocks. That's fair chase. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

I wouldn't think twice about using the steel cased ammo in a bolt gun. I have owned both the 223 and 22-250. 223 will be cheaper ammo and fmj practice ammo is available. The 22-250 to me though is a better varmint rifle but less ammo options and higher price.1 point

My 1st 10 deer or so I shot in the neck . At that time I did a lot of reloading and shooting and had no fears of missing the spot. Nowadays I probably shoot a gun 20-50 shots a year, I aim behind the shoulder. Nice big target. Unless I am carrying my ml and then I prefer on the shoulder.1 point

Line the vertical crosshair up with the front leg...Raise the junction of the crosshairs up until it is about 1/2 way up the body. Squeeze the trigger..Go collect your deer, because he's not going far. He might run a ways( usually less than 100 yards), but he will not go far. Usually you'll have a blood trail Stevie Wonder could follow. It's the largest vital area. Dead center gets the lungs. A little low gets the heart. A little high gets the spine. A little forward gets the base of the neck. A little back gets lungs/liver. Very dead deer in a very short time.1 point

clear open shot in the woods not field? and perfectly broadside? because that will play into it also.. im a ling shot guy, lug ad heart. i dont see the point of a head shot, its a low percentage shot. i always think blood trail if the animal doesn't drop in sight and the cleanest fasted way to kill that animal.1 point

Looks like an average yote to me just the guy is sitting a few feet behind it since its just in a trap and still alive. People do the same with fish and deer they shoot to make them look bigger.1 point

Remington is doing the right thing. If you are employed by them in NY, I'm sure they will be offering you a job in the new plant down south if you are willing to relocate. It would be a great chance to get off a sinking ship. All of the other businesses in Ilion that make money off the plant, or the workers at Remington Arms, are going to be out of luck though. They should be the ones screaming at Cuomo.1 point

That slimy stuff between the two meats is the fascia. It's a layer of collagen that holds muscle tissue together. It serves like a WD40 so when the two muscles move back and forth, there is no friction. Completely edible. Collagen is the main ingredient on gelatin (Jell-O). This post kinda goes back to post #13 showing what book smarts and living the life. There are at least 3 strains of EHD. Types 1&2 can be treated, Strain#6=Dig a hole! A deer dies in and around water because they have a fever. They are cooking from the inside, hence going to water. They wont live long enough to waste away to skin and bone like cwd. A few other signs have been. 1. swollen mouth/tongue and drooling 2. tenderness of feet, walking gingerly 3. pained look in eyes 4. death with no warning, fed at 8pm, dead at 7am. Blood around mouth. 5. redness around eyes, mouth 6. swelling around eyes, usually accompanied with one or more of the above. A good strong dose of Dex,Draxin and baytril will help big time but the only way to save a deer is to get its body temp down asap and around the farm that is a garden hose right up the a$$. Cold water will save them. Now of course the wild deer will never have this pleasure and they will also not have the gift of the farmer spraying his pens the kill the midge that gives us EHD to begin with. If you have mud or standing water around your pens or land in EHD country, you will have the midge. A 3 day treatment and the animal will live but now we have vaccine that we can give our deer to just about stop the problem. So you see there is a huge difference from being copy and paste smart and living the dream.1 point

This sounds like a decent idea in theory- decrease recidivism rates by providing inmates an education. But, the taxpayer funding part is hard to swallow. If, as the Governor states, this idea has been successful using private funds, I think it should remain privately funded. As others have stated, this idea is a slap in the face to the victims of crime as well as to those of us who had to work hard to pay for our educations while obeying the law. If the program has been a success using private grants to the Bard Initiative, the Governor could help the Bard Initiative raise more funds to expand the program, instead of committing taxpayer money.1 point

Mike- I specialize in IVF and embryo transfer and breed the bulls that AI companies sell the semen from. I'm not sure what the relevance to this thread your questions have. I stated what I do to add credibility to my statements pertaining to the buck in the picture, nothing more. If you want me to answer your questions maybe you should start a separate thread called Dairy Farming 101 and I'll enlighten you when I get more time. As it is I flushed 4 donor cows this morning and have to transfer 29 embryos this afternoon. My assistant is stuck in Chicago as well, so I have to do my work and hers today.1 point

I still can't believe the resistance by some to accept that deer starving and death is part of the natural order of things in the wild... we go as far as to hate other animals such as coyotes because they sometimes have "Your" deer on their menu as a food source. Its amazing what some will do and say in the name of "their" deer hunting which has little to do with real conservation or deer management.1 point

Actually the low income get a substantial amount of assistance right now. The ones that are truly creamed by this system are the ones in the middle as usual. The ones that make too much for assistance but not enough to be able to just write the check.1 point

I have 2 xp-100's one in 35 rem and the other is 6mm-br and have killed deer with both of them but I prefer using one of my 44mag's I have killed 11 deer between the two of them. Anything from the 357mag up to 50 sw in a handgun can be used for deer. The 44mag. Is a very good round for deer. Weather you chose a standard handgun or rifle cartridge, you have to be able to shoot it no else. All of us here telling you what we think is the best handgun round for deer all have different skill levels. We wont have to shoot your gun, you will. Now I'll tell you what the best handgun and round for deer is THE ONE YOU SHOOT THE BEST1 point

Well, I don't know. That triangular shaped barrel and the black color make the gun look evil. I think those features should be added to the "assault rifle" definition. And that bi-pod ...... oh my! Anybody got Cuomo's phone number?1 point
