  1. He's not the biggest I've seen on the forums here, but my personal best! I am excited for this season!

  2. I think the whole point in this sad case is that the guy, and apparently the girls parents made the poor decision to let her handle too much gun. Its like the youtube videos you see of morons handing their 90 pound girlfriend a 500 S&W or a 12 gauge and watching them whack themselves in the face or have the gun fly out of their hands because of the recoil. In this case the outcome was far worse.

  3. They said that about handguns in NY and we got the Sullivan Act. They said the same thing about automatics and we got the NFA. Now it is what they say about semi-autos and we have the safe act. You don't think your hunting rifle is also on the list? The goal is to eliminate all guns. They simply realize they can't do it all at once so they do it a piece at a time. Problem is that when all the "other" gun owners have been defeated, there won't be enough "hunters" left to make a difference when they come for the "rest" of the guns. Why does anyone need a 6500# SUV that can travel >100mph? Put a 9-year old kid behind the wheel of one of those and let her loose on Arizona's 75mph highways. The result would likely be just as tragic. The only difference is that no one would be asking why someone needs a vehicle like that.

  4. I have shot at that range numerous times when I lived in Arizona. I used to carry a kimber custom 2 on my hip everywhere I went in az. Very relaxed gun laws which was SOOOO nice coming from NY. Last I was there they did away with the concealed permit which meant you could only carry if the gun was showing. Now you don't need a permit to conceal a firearm unless they changed the law. I remember bouncing at a night club and you had to be weary of girls with big breasts bc it was very popular to hide Rhine stone covered nickel plated 22\s in between there breasts! Anyhow I was at that range one day when I heard a noticeable ticking sound coming from the shooter to my right. When I looked over there was a 21 year old kid with a 16 year old shooting a silenced mark 7 lol he let me shoot it and it was extremely cool but had me thinking if it was a bit much for someone that young to be messing around with a silencer! Automatic weapons were verrrry common and I believe you could own one fairly easily it just had to be kept at the armory and had to be checked out when taken to the range on a day or weekend type pass. I am extremely pro gun HOWEVER putting a fully automatic uzi in a 9 year olds hand is just stupid! I am all for teaching gun safety to children but putting an uzi in a 9 year olds hands is like tossing your 16 year old a pair of Ferrari keys and saying take it for a spin son! The instructor was following protocol however lacking common sense!!!! ITS A FULLY AUTOMATIC SUB MACHINE GUN! Not your fathers old 22lr that he passed down for shooting squirrels! When Uziel Gal made this weapon it was to protect his homeland of Israel from invading forces and it did just that! I am sure he wasn't planning on having a 9 year old fire a micro version of his design! This kind of incompetence by the parents of this young lady as well as the range officers is slowly destroying the 2nd amendment. I urge parents to please be responsible when handling this kind of weaponry and if your looking for hits on youtube find another way then putting a sub machine gun in your childs hands.

  5. I'm surprised to see the deer hitting my brassicas, usually they wait until a few good frosts. I've got oats, winter rye, and forage peas in the freshly worked area. The farmer I lease to will leave at least 10 rows of corn the length of the field. My 25 acre woodlot was logged fairly heavily last winter. Logging plus hingecutting bedding areas is really thickening things up!

  6. Didn't anyone else learn to shoot with a BB gun? I was taught how to aim and squeeze a trigger with a Red Ryder BB gun, and I loved it! To me, at age 7, it was the greatest thing in the world. I practiced with that BB gun for hours and must have gone through 1000 BB's in a month. I learned gun safety, as well as how to aim and shoot straight, long before I ever fired a single shot .22 LR. I was allowed to fire a single shot shotgun when I was 11, and I was OK with not shooting that monster again for quite some time. For me it was a gradual progression in firearms use and instruction as I grew up. Learning how to hunt and be safe in the field with a gun, was part of that progression. I started all 3 of my children with BB guns and plan to start my grandchild with one as well. I would advise all parents and child mentors to seriously consider doing the same thing. Safety and proficiency can be learned, and taught, with a less than lethal weapon, giving the teacher confidence and a greater margin for error with the student.

  13. Just to give you all a heads up, we will have a deer contest this year. It will most likely be similar to how we do the Spring Turkey Classic, with a points system, etc. More details, prize lists, etc will be coming up soon.

Checked it the other day and these two big boys were on it. Gotta hope they stick around for another month. They are both gorgeous deer, but the one in the back has me drooling. Cant wait for the season!!

  16. I grew up playing video games and occasionally still find time to play a few video games with friends, albeit rarely. I've been toying with the idea of getting an XBOX 1 or PS4 a few years down the road so I can introduce my sons to another of my hobbies ( and I still love dealing out head-shots in HALO). Growing up I was an xbox fan and was leaning towards an XBOX 1. However, I read an article today that Bill Gates, native of my home state, donated 1 million dollars to the anti-gun community. Well, as much as I love xbox and was a loyal customer, I have to say that I no longer feel I can support Microsoft. I respect the Gates family and all the great things they do with their foundation, but I'm disappointed in his actions. I used to think people boycotting business for the actions of hands-off owners was a wasted-exercise, but now my attitude seems to be changing. Do you think boycotting a company because of personal, unrelated decisions of CEOs,presidents and/or owners is justified? For 400$, I'll probably end up using the money to purchase an AR, when I move back West. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/08/26/the-nra-pissed-off-the-wrong-nerd-genius.html

  18. Just a reminder that if you plan on going goose hunting in the early season, don't forget to get your stamp! 15 bucks and a trip to the post office gets you a pretty canvasback stamp! Don't forget to sign it...

  20. On a couple of occasions, I've had hunters walk into my spot and next thing you know, we're hunting together as a team the rest of the day and exchanging phone numbers at the end. Crazy.

  21. Do you really think they will try to ban large size sodas? I think that is more "out there" than banning guns. There are people who want to ban ALL guns. They keep trying. They win by increments. Their voice is bolstered by the general media and they are winning the public relations battle. For all practical purposes, they banned guns in Australia and England. The anti-gunners point to those places as "civilized" examples. They note that the U.S. is "clinging to a wild west gun culture" which has "no place" in the modern world. I absolutely believe that a ban on all guns is an extremely remote possibility at this time. Twenty years from now? Fifty? Who knows. Whatever it becomes, the foundation for those rules is being laid today. I won't defend fully auto guns. They are heavily regulated and difficult enough to obtain. What I will point out is that the argument you are using against them is exactly the same argument that anti-gun and anti-hunting groups are using against you right now. To a non-hunter or an anti-gun advocate, your hunting rifle "serves no purpose." You don't NEED to hunt. You can get food at the supermarket "like everyone else." It is either a hobby or a business for you. If others choose to shoot full-autos at targets, their hobby or business is just as valid. If someone likes to fire automatic weapons, it is not place to question the validity of their pursuit. I say more power to them if they can afford to blow through ammo like that! Gun owners are being attacked on all sides. I am not suggesting changing you opinion on automatics. That is a discussion for when they are common carry weapons. What I am suggesting is that gun owners need to stick together and present a united front - just like the anti-gunners do. If the break us down to self-defense vs target vs hunter vs collector, etc. than we will ALL lose.

  22. Exactly the point i made to my wife. She then made the comment maybe its better for only cops to have guns. I proceeded to google stories of officers and soldiers killing innocent people including there own kids. Crazy and stupid people do tragic things. People need to use common sense

  23. Haven't checked it out BUT I was on the site mytopo.com looking at overhead maps and they have an option for New York (I would assume elsewhere as well) that give you the aerial view of the property as well as the private land boundaries and names of the owners. Pretty cool. I know it was accurate for my area because it was pretty spot on with the property lines for my property and the neighbors around me.

  25. Im too paranoid to use them. Im afraid someone will spot them, find their way to my stand and hunt it, mess with it steal it…what ever. If I need to mark a trail I'll do stuff like, lay a broken stick across a trail or road, so I know where to cut in, or snap & bend twigs on brush, scrape a little bark off the base of tress…..etc….

  27. I've seen videos where adult's can't manage the repeated recoil of an automatic firearm. I can't see the logic behind thinking a 9 year old could effectively manage it, especially after shooting only one round out of the gun prior to going full auto

  28. A very powerful ad. Now the question is where is it placed on TV? Are we still preaching to the choir by running these on hunting channels and programs, or is it out in the general programming with a properly targeted audience? Somehow, these kinds of ad are slipping by me because I have not seen any of them anywhere on the TV.

  29. are you looking for a logger or forester... i have used both, if your not around and do not know your trees i recomend a forester. yes they take a percentage but also get you the best price. as well as take a bond on fixing roads and ruts... let me know which you prefer and i can send you contact numbers... most loggers look for timber value unless your the one marking your trees and you sell them as marked, where a forester will work with you for your personal goals, habitat, wildlife food, or timber value.or a combination of the three.. prices are up on many species and it is a good time to sell

  44. It is an illness, suffered by many, understood by few. The only treatment is to sit in solitude in a tree stand or with another sufferer of this affliction. There is no known cure, though there is speculation that relentless purchase of hunting equipment would alleviate some of the symptoms, the results are inconclusive. The first step is admitting you have a problem, a difficult task for some, impossible task for most of us in the early stages of development, becoming easier as time go's on. My name is Fred, and I am a Deer Hunting Addict......

  45. After 45 years of hunting, I find I have everything I need. But not everything I want. When I really look into wanting something, I often conclude I don't need it. I got new boots last year, so this year I don't think I need anything. I could write a long list of things I want though.
