My son shot this bear last week. I got to watch the whole thing from my tree stand. While he was on the ground 20 feet away. I was very proud. He is only 15 years old and this was his first big game kill. He took the time to wait to make sure it was alone and then the bear winded him and bolted. He hit the bear with the first shot while it was on a full run. He is going to be a great hunter.5 points

Let me start by saying that my intention here is NOT to start a debate or argument between theists and atheists. It simply is my review of a movie I just finished watching called "God Is Not Dead". I must say I was somewhat skeptical about watching it. But I'm really glad I chose this one over the new Adam Sandler movie Blended. Incidentally I was about to click on the Adam Sandler movie (eventhough I believe Dont Mess With the Zohan was his best), but something made me go back and select this one instead. Not to spoil it for anyone out there who is interested in watching it but it was about an athesist professor at a university who told his class that that they can pass his philosophy class if they wrote three words: "God Is Dead" on a sheet of paper and signed it. All but one student sheepishly did it. This one student professed to him that he was a Christian and could not agree. So he took the professor's challenge to prove God's existence. Well I won't say who won the argument. I'll let you decide for yourselves. But in this day and age with all the violence, turmoil, illness and death going on in our world, not to mention the instant gratification we all expect, materialism and hatred, this movie was very powerful. It put things into perspective and makes you stop and think why certain things happen to some people and not to others.3 points

I've killed 72 deer. Since I was 16 I've kept a log book with every deer I've shot in it. I also write down the time, date, weather conditions, and location. It's fun to go back and read through it.3 points

It would be nice to make the ice at HSBC Arena from this flammable water. Maybe that would light a fire under the Sabres azzes this year,lol!2 points

I've hunted since 1970 and taken more deer than I can remember. I don't keep count of them. But I do remember every deer I didn't take, especially the big ones, whether it was missed, too elusive, or spared for some personal reason. That number is about 1/4 of the deer I did bag. You learn very little from each deer you are successful taking. You learn a ton from the ones you were unsuccessful taking.2 points

I'm not sure this is such a good idea. Violent crime may become more likely in households with empty sheet pizza boxes at the curb with groups of 24" or more across the box. On the other hand, a small personal pan pizza box with the center punched out could be a good deterrent to any "would be perpetrators"!1 point

I also do not have a problem with baiting as long as it is legal and I do not complain about baiting products being sold in stores as I do not have proof as to where it is being used once it leaves the store. We all have a good idea yet unless we fallow the buyer and see them useing it in NY who knows for sure. Big deal it is on the shelf in the store,if you do not have a use for it then do not buy it.Why complain about it being sold. Personally I have better things to do with my time then complain about things like that. I do not have a use for Dodge trucks but I do not complain everytime I see a Junk dealership. Comparing baiting deer with putting a worm on a hook to catch fish is stupid. That is like people saying there are size limits for fish and we should have size limits for deer ( AR ). You will not get fish without somekind of bait on your hook you can get deer without bait however. Yet we all still use bait for deer in one form or another,A farmers field, apple trees, water source or just that mast crops in the woods.1 point

I just erased everything I was going to post re: the ammo sales provision of the safe act, and basically pointing out what it does not address that could be used as loopholes. After proofreading the post I realized it was probably going to help the idiots in Albany at least as much as the folks here. This is an open website folks. Detailed information about what's wrong with the safe act needs to be held close to the vest, as they say. The people who wrote and passed the legislation generally have very little knowledge of the subject. Don't voluntarily educate them. Best Regards, Mark1 point

I have had pizza in Juneau.. By far the worst pizza I have ever had.. Saying it SUCKED was a gross understatement. The chicken wings suck, too, and so does the barbeque. The reindeer sausage is very good, however, as is the beer battered halibut and steamed king crab legs.1 point

I sit all day everyday... I don't get bored, don't sleep a wink and don't fade out. I wait all year for the season and I hit the ground running. Oh and the wife yells at me cause I drink 2 5 hour energy drinks every sit.... :/ This year I may not sit all day everyday since it's my first year up here. I'll put in some time and see how the movement is accordingly. Always saw many deer in the afternoon early season on LI.1 point

I have one in town where I live and I've seen prices on everyday items more than double over the last 10 years. Not to mention the items are smaller in size or volume and the prices have gone up. I remember paying $1.50 for a gallon of milk 10 years ago now I'm paying close to $5. It's ridiculous when they try to sell you a so called sale item when in fact they increase the regular price before marking it down to put it on sale. Even shopping at big bulk stores like BJ's you can't get out of there without spending a minimum of $300 again for everyday things.1 point

What makes you think the water you get out of your faucet now isn't giving you cancer? If you have scientific data to support your claims, please feel free to post it. If not, you are simply doing what a lot of scared people do, and that is fear mongering. Like I said, the advantages and benefits are unquestionable, the negativity and fear mongering is.1 point

Here we go again Upstate vs Downstate. Steve863 you must have eaten at the wrong place. I agree there are those up here that suck but others are excellent. In my trips to the city I have had the same experience, good and bad. As far as Alaska pizza goes I will let you all know soon. Other than deer season here I'll be living and working there for the next two years.. With the way things go here in NY with the city dictating how Upstate lives, I may just stay there for good. No matter what the pizza is like there. lol Time will tell.1 point

Fracking has many. many economic benefits, but it may bring environmental costs. I'm not sure it is as bad as the greenies want us to believe it is. Right now the Left is doing everything it can to increase the cost of all fossil fuel energy in it's zeal to force "green" alternatives on us, which are not nearly as cheap to use. So, naturally they will attack fracking to prevent it's success. I've been to the gas fields in PA. I've looked into the pollution claims. I see nothing as bad as it's being made out to be. No industry is totally pollution free, but weighing all of the advantages against the disadvantages, I can't see a total ban on fracking making sense. I can understand if you disagree, but everyone I debate this subject with seems to only care about themselves and their own beliefs. I don't think they ever see the total picture and how it effects the people employed, the economy, the state's prosperity and the country.1 point

fracking saved alot of local communities in PA too, im not surprised. Oil jobs in the dakotas, texas, and fracking up here are about the only part of our economy that's growing right now. Leave it to the Dems to try and do their best to stop the only sliver of hope in the free market.1 point

Geno your dead on point. I sure hope my daughter wants to hunt. Before she even thinks about taking one she will have not only ample time practicing the weapon of choice but also have ample time in the woods shadowing me.1 point

I try to take a stroll around my hunting grounds past my stands every day. VERY rarely do I ever miss a hike completely. I'll likely keep my patterns the same right up to, and throughout season unless I notice a major change I may have a negative effect on. As long as my patterns stay the same, I don't believe the deer will change theirs much once we flip the calendars to October.1 point

It sounds like the Safe Act is working exactly as it was intended. It has become a major frustration for gun owners. Just yet another addition to a long list of legal frustrations designed to drive the guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. If things don't turn out well in this next election, look for that list of frustrations to continue to grow substantially.1 point
