Wow, am I thrilled right now. I've been entering the bow giveaways for Parker for about 2 years. Never thought I'd win. Well, tonight, I received an email, stating I had won a Thunderhawk crossbow! I almost wet myself with joy. An almost $600 crossbow for free. Now I just have to find a place to hunt with it. Shortly after I killed my archery buck I took the lower jaw to the DEC in Buffalo to have it aged. The general consensus of the 4 people (1 biologist, 1 ENCON officer and two assistants to the biologist) was that it was a 4.5 year old buck, not 6.5 like my taxidermist thought. Tonight I went and had it officially measured for P&Y/NYS Big Buck Club. He grossed 132 1/8th and netted 122 0/8..... Hi all, just signed up, love to talk archery. I have been archery hunting since 1986. Killed my first deer with a bow in 87' and never looked back, pretty much put the gun down since picking up the bow. Think I killed my 25th deer with a bow this year. Love being in a tree watching Mother Nature at her best.

Two scenarios I hate hunting in the rain: 1. It's just above freezing 2. I only have doe tags left Shooting a lifetime buck is hard for some people. Others, they can go right at it, just like before. If I were to choose who to pull up a chair with and talk deer hunting with (assuming same locale and hunter age/seasons) - the guy with the lone 200" or the guy with ten bucks between 120 and 150"....I'm picking the latter.

Perhaps I would start hunting with an atlatl. Then I could set my new best based on weapon.

I've read a whole lot of books about the mountain men. If you liked Jeremiah Johnson, read Crow Killer for the real account. The guy was the very definition of Badass!

BEAN SOUP..!! I have had it simmering all morning with a nice meaty ham bone, plus some onions, pressed home grown garlic, bay leaf, rosemary, finely diced carrots, and of course some coarse ground black pepper..The Mermaid is stopping at Wegman's Bakery in Corning to pick up a nice fresh loaf of fresh crusty bread to go with it. Saturday I am invited to a friend's house for a game dinner..I'll be making Lawdwaz's killer venison oven stew as my contribution.

Going to try my first ever pulled back loin/strap.I seasoned with a mix of dry rub it is in the smoker not sure how long about 4 hours?then I will shred mix with sweet baby rays bbq sauce and serve on soft rolls with a side of slaw.Smoker set at 275deg

I've always been interested in the history of the mountain men and I have read several accounts of Hugh Glass's ordeal after the grizzly attack. I am presently about halfway through reading "The Revenant" and plan to watch the movie soon after I finish the book. Friends of mine who have seen the movie told me it was excellent.

I get 20 bucks an acre. I'm in Steuben county and some say I could get more but the farmer is a great guy. He will do favors if asked and puts back into the soil what he takes out so my land isn't getting raped. Remember the best part about doing this is your property will go into Ag status on your tax bill. This will eliminate a decent amount of taxes on the property.

Hey, call me w/e! I am glad I helped! Yeah, I like certain posts, I have put a lot of "Likes" on many of your other threads and posts as well. As for the people I align myself with, there are none. I like what makes sense and argue what doesn't. I do don't remember what the thread was, but I made a comment about you for president. Due to your state it like it is, tell it right, and no bones honesty. I still say you run for president. Because now you have proven you can twist what people say into your own meaning, turn what you say around into a play on words, and stand by your facade; Pure political tactic right there!

hypothetical question: what happens if the land that they now have "occupied" and want to give back to the people is in fact done so. and then if those private individuals say "nobody is allowed to hunt/fish/hike/camp/etc on my land"? Or they decide to sell the land to some company who decides to put up whatever they please. Those are legit questions. Its a double edge sword, that could swing against the interests of sportsmen. yes or no?

Yeah, Larry, my Mom warned me about it. She said that " The Golden Years" is a misnomer...They are actually the RUSTY years... Of course my Mom also told me that if I didn't quit "that" I'd go blind.. I decided to wait until I needed glasses.

Shot this deer this year and did some research on the holes I found. Turns out they are made by Bot Flies which are inside the deer and work their way into the antler during the velvet stage because of greater blood flow and I suspect an easy exit once larvae hatch. When they do hatch they leave holes which are very cool looking.

This buck showed up 10 min after I sat down in my stand for my first time out for the season on oct 27th. double lung went 40 yrds stopped and tipped over. just sat there like wth just happened. Taxidermist said it might make 130 135ish. he's sending it out to get scored when done. My shortest season ever and my largest buck ever lol

Some of you guys are pretty thick.................this stuff has been going on for at least 20 and maybe 25 years here in WNY. Only the BEST of equipment; suppressed rifles, night vision, bait, paid shooters etc. I don't know the ratio of hit & killed vs hit & lost but I'd bet dollars to donuts they don't loose many. What is killed is utilized well; IIRC the Buck & Doe Shop in Amherst handles lots of those deer. Some people in need of a deer or two have been known to have that need filled. I've seen with my own eyes (and helped process) the expertly field dressed (with a bag of ice in the chest cavity!) deer that have come out of these handoff's. And as far as archers doing the job; get real. How many deer do you really think the bow hunters are going to get? Who's going to give the permission (and except liability) and how's that dead doe (oh it better NOT have horns!!) in the neighbors yard going to fly? Lordy lordy wait until the pregnant doe's fetus jump out on Mrs Smith's lawn. UGGH! Unfortunately these municipalities have waited too long to implement a plan for archers to assist, they need to get the numbers down right now and sharpshooters can do that, tonight while you're all sleeping. It'd be nice to THEN allow archers to keep things under control but that hasn't happened around here and might not happen for you, just Johnny Law get to do the job.........oh and some local farmers of course.

Not in the village limits.. no... and the deer are thicker than crows in the village limits... Part of the village is adjacent to Green Lakes State Parks... which holds an unbelievable amount of deer and some of the biggest bucks I've ever seen. No hunting allowed there either. This is a relatively affluent neighborhood with lots and lots of tree huggers for residents.

I have live on cams...have killed 2...the ones I killed nothing wanted the opossum when left...raccoon gone in a couple of days.

I've never sat longer than an hour, kudos to you if you can and want to sit that long! I've always roosted birds, got in close and if the cooperate I'm done in 45 min tops, if not I go back Home and try again the next day, figure no reason educate them, it's a long season. And I have plowing and planting to do so can't waste a day sitting for hours.

I took the "rough" cape to the taxi-dude (Bernie Seitz) this morning. I asked him to save the lower jaw for me as I'd like to have it aged. He called me a couple hours later and said he had caped it all out and I could swing by and p/u the lower jaw and horns. We were still in the area and buzzed over to grab the goods. His age estimate is 7.5 years old and the ROUGH green score on the antlers was 138" gross and 123 4/8" net. I'm pretty happy with the numbers......................... The BEST part of the entire deal is that I made a great shot. I've blown some gimme's before, I promise you. Some other pics........
