  1. Wow, am I thrilled right now. I've been entering the bow giveaways for Parker for about 2 years. Never thought I'd win. Well, tonight, I received an email, stating I had won a Thunderhawk crossbow! I almost wet myself with joy. An almost $600 crossbow for free. Now I just have to find a place to hunt with it. Four Seasons, if your offer is still open next season, I may have to take you up on it. Thank you for the offer.

  2. Shortly after I killed my archery buck I took the lower jaw to the DEC in Buffalo to have it aged. The general consensus of the 4 people (1 biologist, 1 ENCON officer and two assistants to the biologist) was that it was a 4.5 year old buck, not 6.5 like my taxidermist thought. Tonight I went and had it officially measured for P&Y/NYS Big Buck Club. He grossed 132 1/8th and netted 122 0/8..... Here's a link to the buck... http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/30060-saturdays-buck-rough-age-score/

  11. Hi all, just signed up, love to talk archery. I have been archery hunting since 1986. Killed my first deer with a bow in 87' and never looked back, pretty much put the gun down since picking up the bow. Think I killed my 25th deer with a bow this year. Love being in a tree watching Mother Nature at her best.

  12. Two scenarios I hate hunting in the rain: 1. It's just above freezing 2. I only have doe tags left Shooting a lifetime buck is hard for some people. Others, they can go right at it, just like before. If I were to choose who to pull up a chair with and talk deer hunting with (assuming same locale and hunter age/seasons) - the guy with the lone 200" or the guy with ten bucks between 120 and 150"....I'm picking the latter.

  27. I've always been interested in the history of the mountain men and I have read several accounts of Hugh Glass's ordeal after the grizzly attack. I am presently about halfway through reading "The Revenant" and plan to watch the movie soon after I finish the book. Friends of mine who have seen the movie told me it was excellent.

  29. I get 20 bucks an acre. I'm in Steuben county and some say I could get more but the farmer is a great guy. He will do favors if asked and puts back into the soil what he takes out so my land isn't getting raped. Remember the best part about doing this is your property will go into Ag status on your tax bill. This will eliminate a decent amount of taxes on the property.

  31. Hey, call me w/e! I am glad I helped! Yeah, I like certain posts, I have put a lot of "Likes" on many of your other threads and posts as well. As for the people I align myself with, there are none. I like what makes sense and argue what doesn't. I do don't remember what the thread was, but I made a comment about you for president. Due to your state it like it is, tell it right, and no bones honesty. I still say you run for president. Because now you have proven you can twist what people say into your own meaning, turn what you say around into a play on words, and stand by your facade; Pure political tactic right there!

  34. hypothetical question: what happens if the land that they now have "occupied" and want to give back to the people is in fact done so. and then if those private individuals say "nobody is allowed to hunt/fish/hike/camp/etc on my land"? Or they decide to sell the land to some company who decides to put up whatever they please. Those are legit questions. Its a double edge sword, that could swing against the interests of sportsmen. yes or no?

  38. bedding on a small property can maximize their stay and improve your chances of taking a deer so yea. even when hunkered down they tend to get up browse around a little then lay back down. just trickier the closer you access or hunt near it. I would put more options for bedding east within that green area than west. screening cover of some type for access might be needed. don't know how far you or they when bedded can see. also the crossing of trails is tough but sometimes there's no way around it. any reason why you don't hunt the creek crossing of 5 intersecting trails? those are usually hot spots. if you haven't put a camera there I would. sometimes to can steer deer to go parallel with a trail but closer to you. food to pass by, cover to travel, or making a spot hard or uncomfortable for a deer to get through can all steer deer travel but only if destination is the same effort to get there isn't much different.

I am happily awaiting the days we will begin making and sharing these memories together, then i can have the awesome photos in the field like many of you have.....(im jealous:) ) The first pic is her @ 9 months when we were out picking leeks back in April, The 2nd pic is her blowing into a crow call making a ton of ruckus(probably will call better than me someday).. the next pic is the great guys from deer search Josh Prouty's golden retriever "Rosston" when he recovered my buck for me, Lastly, being there with my dad when he harvested his 3rd biggest buck.... These are a few of my happy moments "in/about the woods"

  44. Myths about the NRA Myth 1: The NRA represents gun manufacturers. One of the most pervasive myths about NRA is that it represents firearm manufacturers. It doesn't. It represents firearm owners. Firearm manufacturers are represented by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Yes, manufacturers often contribute money to the Association or raffle/contest prizes to one of its many programs, but NRA-at its heart-is a non-profit civil rights organization. As for firearms manufacturers, their size and cash reserves are grossly overestimated by those who oppose gun rights. A firearm is an extremely durable product with a very long service life, and is a big-ticket item for most consumers, limiting sales. Unless a firearm manufacturer is also a defense or law-enforcement contractor with domestic and/or foreign government contracts, it is typically a small operation; certainly nowhere near being a Fortune 500 company. Myth 2: The NRA's power rests in how much money it gives out to candidates. Many gun-control advocates seem to have trouble believing that someone would disagree with them on a subject like gun control and that, if someone does, it must be the result of greed. The truth is that the NRA's power comes not from distributing cash, but from producing votes. NRA members are politically informed and engaged, and vote in extremely high numbers. Moreover, many are single-issue voters who have arrived at the understanding that their opinions on any other subject are potentially moot without the Second Amendment backing them up. Myth 3: The NRA's influence is grossly disproportionate to its membership numbers. This miscalculation is based on the actual number of paid NRA memberships. It fails to consider the practical realities of non-profit advocacy. Not every family can afford separate memberships for each member of the family. Many households have only one "official" member, but everyone in the home reads the NRA Official Journal and supports the Association in spirit. During times of economic hardship, organization memberships are often viewed as a luxury and are voluntarily suspended by annual members until things improve. Further, when the political situation is "good" for gun owners (for example, when there is a pro-gun administration in Washington), gun owners feel safe and often allow their memberships to lapse. And, of course, some people just aren't "joiners." They believe in the Right to Keep and Bear Arms but, for whatever reason, don't formally join advocacy organizations, though they vote in support of the Second Amendment. So, while NRA may have "only" 5 million members, each of those represents many like-minded folks who turn out come Election Day and cast votes in preservation of their rights. Myth 4: Polls show that most Americans disagree with NRA and want more gun control. The mainstream press often cites polls showing Americans support gun control. Don't believe them. First of all, many of these polls are conducted immediately following highly publicized mass shootings, when people respond emotionally. Also, you have to know is how the poll was conducted and how questions were posed. If asked, simply "Are you in favor of gun control?" a person on the street may say yes. However, if you pose the question "Do you favor more gun control legislation or the enforcement of existing laws?" that same person may favor the latter. We also must consider whether we really want Constitutional rights determined via polling. The Bill of Rights protects the individual from "the tyranny of the majority." The Second Amendment doesn't say "Good poll numbers being essential to good public policy, the right of the people ... ." Are we forbidden from practicing a certain religion because it's not trending well? Do we give up the right to read a good book because it's fallen into disfavor among the majority?

  45. And guess who it thinks is the biggest threat to America now. "Washington-and the mainstream media- is wondering what they're going to do with what is now, essentially, a single-issue administration. With his announcement last week that he will not offer any campaign or political support to any elected official not backing the President's "common sense" gun control measures, Mr. Obama has made it clear that there's nothing more important to his administration in their final year in the White House. If you're a North Korean leader, ISIS terrorist or even Vladimir Putin, those words are music to your ears. Now you won't even have to bother giving lip service to a United States president who's already shown himself "distanced" from what's happening in the rest of the world. That might not be comforting words to our allies, but they're already painfully aware that for the most part they've been working without a net where the U.S. is concerned anyway. But if you're expecting to hear the sound of the gun industry heading for their hideaways and barring the doors, well, you'd better think again. That's because the industry, and most of the rest of the planet, realize that if you're an elected official in the largest part of the country and suddenly about-face on the Second Amendment, you're soon going to be looking for a mover to get your personal property out of the House and Senate office buildings. Mr. Obama has, essentially, staked out a claim squarely in the middle of fatal terrain. Barring some amazing turnaround, despite polling data that might seem to contradict this position, not many average Americans are ready to abrogate their abilities to defend themselves simply because some group of pols says they have to "do something" about gun violence." 46. Only pic I have from this year but it did what it was supposed to do. Ultimate steel Rocket 75gr. 1" cutting diameter fixed, you can see the hole behind the lungs exited behind opposite shoulder. He piled 80 yards from where he was shot and within 10 seconds. I watched him fall pretty it was cool watching him skid to a pile. Here is a photo of what they did 3 years ago. Entrance in front of left rear hip: Exit behind right front shoulder:

  47. but what is that extra speed really going to do for you. Does it really give any advantage on jumpy deer at say 35yds? Because the deer I've taken at my 25yd max never had a chance, but I had a clean miss on a string jumper once at 35 yds, just wondering. Excals are easy and I just love the accuracy.
