  16. At a family Xmas gathering it seems both a nephew and a brother-in-law acquired crossbows for Xmas. In a short time one side of the basement was converted into a 20 yard archery range. They placed a shooting block on a table and relocated storage boxes to the center of room. Soon half the family was shooting crossbow for their first time. A great way to enjoy both family and sport.

  17. One comment I will make is that a lot if not all those listed wmu's are private land and some urban areas. I don't think the dec takes that into effect either. They see and hear about car and people property damages. But some of these same people will not let you hunt their property. So instead of figuring out away to control deer populations in urban areas the whole wmu pays the price. Just my 2 cents.

  19. I Need to ask ..."I only kill what I eat". Where is your out rage for wood chucks? No season, ,hunted during their rearing phase...don't know of many that eat them. They are no harm to other game animals. So what puts them on a lower level than Coyotes for you?

  28. I have not read every post, but I don't recall anybody mentioning the fact that PA already has a year round season for coyotes...In fact the only time that you can't shoot them is before noon during spring gobbler season and during deer rifle season IF you do not have a valid deer tag.You can even shoot them on SUNDAY, Praise The Lord ! Ain't too many critters you can legally shoot on Sunday in PA. Soooooo, do you really think a $25 bounty is REALLY going to get more people shooting coyotes ? I think it's going to waste taxpayers money paying for coyotes that would be shot REGARDLESS of the bounty...

  29. Quote: "I've yet to meet a hunter on the field that didn't want to shoot a coyote, anytime, anywhere it's legal." And yet 99.9% of hunters will only shoot one as a target of opportunity. They do not hit the field ever with coyotes as the primary target. Longer seasons and/or bounties will not change this or increase overall kill in a statistically significant amount.

You will also not be able to get off the list either. http://www.guns.com/2016/01/22/new-york-moves-to-refuse-gun-licenses-to-those-on-no-fly-list/?utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=56a2bdd604d3017ab9d1dea4&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=facebook

  42. I would agree if it wasn't an idea that so many apparently feel can be refuted so easily. I'm not sure I really buy that thought. As was pointed out, there is a public aspect to all of this that I'm sure the DNR wouldn't really want to find themselves in the middle of unless they thought they could back up their position. And as far as them being driven by hunters, that I not the impression I get after hearing all the years of outcry over their severe attack on the deer herd down there. I get the impression that they are determined to do what they think is the right thing (as they see it) regardless of how it plays among the hunters. No, I think this is genuinely supported by whatever coyote management research they could dredge up. If we say they are all screwed up about this idea, then we have to put the blame where the buck stops. This is not something that can easily be blamed on hunters.

  43. My only question would be "How much more coyote hunting do they expect with the introduction of a bounty?"... It would certainly be a waste of tax payer money if it doesn't solve whatever problem it is they are trying to solve. I have been looking for coyote population numbers for PA and haven't come up with anything yet... you would think there would have been concerns long before now if the problem was big enough. I can't find anything on the subject that tells much.

  44. In light of the changes they made last year and the proposed changes for this year. I'm very surprised they have not made a proposal for full inclusion for crossbows. It does make sense to do so. Perhaps that is why it's not being proposed.

  46. It is sad that you think this is the place to get accurate information, and that I am an ignoramus because I have been depending on peer reviewed science for my information. Wow! I have said it before but apparently it needs repeating: The risks to humans from coyotes cannot compare to the risks of bee sting, domestic dogs, bacon, domestic violence, glyphosate, falling out of a tree stand, self inflicted wounds from weapons (knives, arrows, guns), etc. etc. etc. The fear of coyotes is not based on any rationale risk assessment. It is primal like the fear of snakes. It made sense to fear wolves - or wolf-like creatures - when we lived off flocks of sheep and goats in a pastoral Europe a thousand years ago. You can let those fears go now.

  47. Made a beef roast and did it my way. It was small so 300 for an hour and a half. Came out perfect. Brown on the edge and red in the middle. The g/f doesn't like it that way, but it's easier for her to cook a slice a bit more for med/well then it is for me to get it rare again. Also made baby golds and fresh green beans.

  48. So the wind was perfect for the "Sure Thing" stand. Up and in position, bow hauled up, arrow knocked, put shooting release on hand, hear a couple footfalls to the west, spot doe. No way........I JUST got in the stand 60 seconds earlier.........................OK, I'll participate. She doesn't follow the script exactly though, she heads to the base of the stand. A couple whiffs of me and she takes two quick jumps towards where she came from. I had the bow drawn before she even stopped, figuring she'd stop and take a peek at the blob in the branches........FFFffttt..,. the arrow is gone and right in the boiler room. She sprints away and I hear her crash about 60 yards from me. I can't see her but I'm confident she is down...................................I decide to leave her be until 9:30 or so, planning on the arrival of a buck at some point. Well, around 8;15 I see a red fox sneaking up on the approx. spot she went down. He figured he had a freebie coming! He must have gnawed away on her for about 20 minutes when all of a sudden I see him/her sneaking towards me with something in it's mouth. WTH man, it's the tail from my doe!! Honest injun...... I got a little Iphone video to substantiate the theft. Here is the doe................
