  1. I am not a science fanatic but apparently a group of smart people just confirmed the existence of gravitational waves - the last part of Einstein's theory of relativity to be proven. I didn't really understand how important it is at first, but basically it opens the door to crazy things like "warp speed" because space and time is now proven to "bend" rather than it being simply a theory. I am sure there are way more higher-level impacts that are beyond my abilities to grasp, but it is pretty neat.

  2. I've been on this site for almost 6 years now. In that time there have been SEVERAL members who believed the universe revolved around them. This gravitational mumbo jumbo is old news to me around here, lol

  3. Parents signed the contract today. Hopefully all goes fine with title company. Definitely has a ROW to the private road, but the question is if there is a ROW to be allowed to drive on this private road to get to the land. Should know in 10 days or so, then closing soon after if all checks out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. What a night we had last night..... Stand 1: Got permission to hunt at my aunt's house, just behind her barn. Her property butts up to about 20 acres of brush lots. We get setup just after sunset and were just waiting for it to get dark enough to start running the light. We were about 5 minutes from starting to call when all of a sudden my partner flips the light on quick and there's the biggest grey fox I think I have ever seen!! I scrambled to get the gun on him as we smooched him. He stopped once but then quickly disappeared into the brush. My partner swings the light back and there's another one, coming right towards our lip squeaking. I throttled her right there with my buddy's 17 WSM. We called for a few minutes and then decided it probably wasn't a good idea to educate so we cut the call and moved on. Stand 2: Set up in a field across the road from the house where we park and I put the call close to an island of thick brush and we sat across the field with our backs to the edge of the hardwoods with a creek behind us. 5 minutes of nutty nuthatch and we hear the infamous "tsh tsh tsh tsh" of something coming in, right behind us! A grey fox slipped up the creek and was going to come out right where we were sitting....it got about 5 yards from us and then hooked a U-turn and left at the same speed it came in. we continued our set to no avail, but did hear a pack of coyotes light up across the road. Stand 3: Went to the laydown yard just outside of town that my boss owns (I work for a construction company) and got setup. Played nutty nuthatch for about 3 minutes and the wind and snow picked up like crazy. 2 minutes later my call dies.....unbelievable. So we sit there a few minutes in silence ad the snow stops. My partner decides to use his mouth call. About 10 minutes later we catch eyes across the railroad tracks and disappear as quick as they were found. We called on and off for another 20 minutes and decided to pack it up. Got halfway across the laydown yard and my partner thinks he forgot his bag so goes back to get it. I shine the light around and see nothing, I'm about 30 yards from the truck so I'm just looking down, daydreaming. All of a sudden I hear "hey hey hey hey hey hey hey" and I look up, my partner is 10 yards to one side and a grey fox is 10 yards on the other!! We shined him and tried to stop him but he took off outta there. we were speechless...... I walk over to the truck and start putting stuff away while my partner walks over and grabs the chair he dropped when we tried to get the fox. I look up and 65 yards down the haul road I see the fox start to cross. Are you kidding me?! I lip squeak and light him up. he stops for a half a second and disappears. What a night..... saw a grey fox at every stand and only managed to get one. And that one wasn't even called to!

  6. To the contrary. Majority rule is a true Democracy. We are not. We are a Representative Republic. There is a reason why one of the branches of Government (Congress and most specifically the Senate) was set up as it is. To protect states with less population than the larger states. RI has equal voice as CA in the Senate regardless of population. We are not majority rule. In fact the Constitution was set up for protections of out rights in the face of majority opposition. There is a defined process to modify the Constitution. If is seldom used becasue there is seldom enough wide spread support for any of the process to be carried out.

  14. 43. Started hunting with my old man as soon as I was strong enough to make it up the hill with our chairs, lunch, and other accessories in my pack and pockets. I wasn't actually old enough to hunt yet, but sometimes he'd let me "hold the gun" when he ran off to take a wizz over the next hill.

  15. i think scientists just proved some his theory not that long ago through experiments with quantum entanglement. stuff is pretty crazy to grasp if you can follow it the least bit or get a layman's explanation for each of it. physics meant work when I got my degree. after the fact it's pretty awesome when ties are made to aspects of real world outside the class room. only driving force to make me study. hated school. more you learned the less you realized you knew. individuals like Einstein are irreplaceable.

  17. Huh? I've had deer run by at warp speed. He was bent on getting out of that space at that time. I don't think it was caused by gravity waves. That's my theory.

  19. Awesome night! I don't have a ton of experience, but from what I have been told and witnessed the greys are much more aggressive and will come to a call sooner than a red or yote or bobcat. I never called anything in (that I saw) in NY in the few times I tried, then when I was in Arizona I did everything exactly the same and called in and killed 2 greys in 3 sets. Also called in a big bobcat (saw the tracks in the sand), but never saw it. I've actually been thinking about going to AZ for like a week and just do predator calling on state land.

  26. Due to how fast it is, if you find something faster it would be surprising to say the least. Impossible barrier at this stage. As much as we would like to do warp speeds and explore the universe it is almost impossible with the tech we have today. Bending or using worm holes is the only solution for long distance travel. Problem is when you got back from your trip everyone you know would be dead as time would slow for you and keep going normally for everyone else on the planet. Many things we are starting to understand, I just hope we do not all disappear due to some weird experiment gone awry to prove some theory like creating a black hole. Considering most planets we would explore are more than a light year away I would be temped to say we will never get to explore them, ever. But if we did it would probably be a one way trip.

  29. I too tried the Throw & Grow without luck. Possibly because I raked the leaves and planted in June. The exposed soil, dry conditions, lack of sunlight and pH were probably all against me. Still the number of oaks seems to produce what the deer are looking for and no harm was done. It can be tough making a good spot better. One thing I did do was to clear a path like Growalot mentioned. I call them shooting lanes never more than 6 to 8 feet wide and never more than 5 or six lanes all radiating from the blind. The fallen limbs and brush cleared from the path are leaned and tangled into trees and brush on one side of the path creating a fence of sorts. Deer passing through end up walking toward you in those paths. I also do not touch the brush in the blind area unless it's obviously blocking a shooting lane. Even then I'll bend it over three feet above the ground to create natural blind and living browse. I leave a lot of the area untouched and avoid clearing out too much. A deer standing in a heavy brush area or behind a hemlock blocking your shot, will eventually step into one of the shooting lanes. A second suggestion is to ask the owner if you can clear a few trees from around those oaks you mentioned. That will help them produce and open sky for more low browse to grow. As you said the green paste in the gut is probably grass or clover. If they have access to grass or clover you may have a hard time competing with their current source. Any low browse near the blind is something different and provides a cause to linger while passing through.

  31. 35 years and only two hunting. My family didn't hunt, nor did they encourage an outdoor lifestyle. I'm the black sheep in that regard. Always loved the outdoors, and finally dedicated the time to get the certificates. Started bow hunting this year, and harvested my first two deer with arrows. I have much to learn and am looking forward to the years ahead and building a tradition for my branch of the tree. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

  38. I'm 34, and I've been hunting since age 12 (legal age for small game at the time), so I've been hunting for 22 years. My dad would let me go with him to watch when he small game hunted, since I could walk, but I'm not counting that because I was not participating.

  39. Never been shy about my age....actually I never tell my correct age unless it is actually my birthday...because the day after my actual birthday, I look at it as the start of my next birth date and give that age...So I suppose I'm always adding a year...lol....ya just a quirky thing. So as of April 1 I will be 58yrs old Fishing...before I can remember hunting since 8 or 10...neighbor hood kids would head down to the Kelly Bros nursery plantings and hunt squirrels.
