New born fawns are always fun to stumble across. As long as their not found with the tractor or mower. Those times are not so fun.. lol11 points

Picked him up last week. Came out really good. He added some ripples down his shoulder, adds a different touch.10 points

In my FD that phase means a woman, child or say city official has entered the firehouse so watch your language and so,forth. Today we had a man on the roof who broke his leg, thought you may enjoy these pics. Of getting him off the roof . He was pretty brave and just trusted us .7 points

Been writing since high school. Even went to college to teach literature (even though I still talk like a hillbilly) but dropped out because my mind is useless when contemplating numbers. But I've finally can mark getting published off the bucket list! I wrote a piece for American Digger Magazine. Also have a new video up. Walked two miles of creek in search of yet another major civil war crossing. Found some interesting things. Then on to a home site that was captured by union forces in 1863. Oh yeah, and two owls. All videos are better will owls. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk6 points

I stopped at the local deli this morning after turkey hunting. This little mooch sat on my side view mirror looking for a piece of my buttered roll. I was able to feed him out of my hand.5 points

Couple of years ago while turkey hunting. I hear something behind me. Here comes a still wet fawn stumbling thru the mayapples I could have tapped it on the nose with my shotgun. It stumbled out to the fields edge, looked around and came back. When leaving the woods I found about 50 feet away where it was birthed. Neat stuff.4 points

The Liberal media will attack Trump with everything they got. The Funny thing is Hilary is under Criminal investigation and Trump is attacked? A socialist is beating Hilary and Obama beat Hilary, she is a loser with important Friends. Trump will control the liberal media by beating them at there own game.2 points

Crows were coming in. Hen literally jumped from field edge into woods and hid. Wish she would have talked some more. I couldn't call , she was quiet and now don't know exactly where she is. There she is.2 points

My guess, I don't think a doe would make any sounds at all giving birth due to predators always being present. That would be like ringing a dinner bell, not only for her fawn but her as well.2 points

Yes ~ Monday. actually watched one pop out. It's a weird year. Saw goslings almost a month ago with one set of parents. Frogs were in the pond real early and then froze to death.2 points

i make it a point to not shoot button bucks as do others in the area. kind of frowned upon out this way for one reason or another. doesn't necessarily help your hunting as they relocate. it helps the future buck numbers for those around you though. besides I've processed them before. practically the same amount of work for a fraction of the meat. PITA if you ask me.2 points

And most always the first deer to come out into a field or food plot. They are free spirits with not a care in the world.2 points

Cool- you guys don't just toss them off onto the stretched out sheet with a big red "X" on it anymore or is that only for when the building is on fire... Good save up there today!2 points

I'm sorry guys but I did taxidermy full time for over 20 years and went to school for it. Wet tan imo is not inferior. Now if I had a customer who insisted on dry tan Id certainly comply but I did many mounts both ways n you can see no difference either way. Now what I think you may be describing is dry preserved. Basically using a raw hide, fleshed n basically borax soap and preservative is thrown on it than mounted. You can see those mounts everywhere. Ears split, drumming, etc. Either wet or dry tan are great, pros n cons to both. Wet tan stretches much easier, thus fits a manikin easier n fills "voids" in the manikin. But it takes up space in the freezer if not instantly done, turn around as WNY said is a week. Dry tan is gonna get wet once you soak it to remove ear, nose cartilage, turn eyes, etc. can be thrown on a bench for storage n takes slightly longer. Anyone who is telling you its a tannery at fault isn't being honest. Yes it takes time, shipping costs so you can have slower guys trying to fill boxes for a few months before shipping, as WNY said there's prob a bunch of folks in front of you. I've never heard of one guy ever cut a customer off cause he spent less or put say a 15 grand guy in front of him. If your tsxidermist is working n not screwing off Id hope you pick a busy one. I tried to stay under a year but it was tough. That mount is s memory that stays on a wall a long time, if the guy is doing quality work don't Rush it2 points

It is awesome finding them. i have come across 4 or 5 over the years now. I came across this fawn last year as i was stepping around this very tree, trying to get around on a couple gobbling birds. Something just did not look right so i basically jumped and caught myself. Only to find this fawn hiding out.. took a bunch of photos. One fawn wasn't so lucky, I was mowing down some tall grass and weeds to start prepping a food plot early June, I saw the doe come out and slip into the woods and knew immediately there probably was a fawn in there. After mowing awhile i forgot all about it, As i got to the center of mowing the 2 acre plot, the 3rd to last pass it jumped up out and around the front wheel and ran to the field edge. Looked fine, seemed fine running. My neighbor said 2 days later a fawn was hanging out around her back door and injured in the rear. I found it a week from the mow date, dead back near my food plot.. kinda sad This other fawn, got lucky found her right before the tractor did..1 point

I remember once when I apparently had a single goldenrod stalk on a windy day that kept triggering the camera. I had a jillion pictures of nothing but that goldenrod. And that was just within a couple of days. I wonder how many pics I would have had if I hadn't checked the camera for 2 months......lol. Maybe that's where your 7000 pictures came from.1 point

Why is that....? If there's one thing hunters and golfers can agree on, is that any day you can get a "hole in one" is a good day,lol1 point

I bought my kid the polaris 570 last spring…The only issue I had was the cheap ass battery Polaris put in it. I replaced it with a better one….65- 70 bucks… other than that ..no issues. Lots of Power and a smooth ride…I think I paid around 6K for it. Nothing wrong with the Yamaha's tho'''1 point

Saves us 10,000 bucks every year.... Worth it to me to educate people... I know some will shoot them knowing what they are... can't stop that... their choice...1 point

I have always interpreted snorting as an alarm that is used when a deer is worried but not entirely clear on the nature of the threat. This is an opinion based on experience, not any research or reading.1 point

Hey AT here in western NY we have good soil and still have farms it’s not like the south eastern part of the state. A 1 ½ year old buck can weight 160lb and have an 8pt rack. Where I hunt, I very rarely see spikes. With a lot of us passing on small bucks I see no need for AR’s. For those who shoot the first legal buck that comes by have at it. It’s not up to me to tell you what shoot or not shoot and I will shake your hand and congratulate you on getting a deer.1 point

Good job this year to everyone who got involved with ANY aspect of the youth hunt, whether birds were killed or not! I've grown to really enjoy the pictures and stories you all share here during this youth hunt. Special thanks goes out to Lou for orchestrating this contest again to help encourage getting the next generation of hunters off to a good start! I've said it before, and I'll say it again.... it's a great thing you do Lou putting it all together for anyone that wants to participate! Bravo buddy!1 point

I know, the shot placement was less than perfect but it was very lethal. My father drove an arrow through one of the kidneys and I'm shocked the buck lasted as long as he did. After the shot we backed out for a few hours and when we returned the buck was laying right where we last saw him.1 point

Got up this morning with plans to fish with low winds. Went to 2 different bait shops and neither had sawbellies or shiners, what a waste. Something with a delivery from the finger lakes. Lots of mad customers. Anyway decided to walk the land and check cams even though it's only been a week. Kicked up 3 deer, and 7 turkeys in the 1.5 hours I was there. The turkeys were bedded about 50 yards the hill from where I get the pics. They all took off flying. Also, got this pretty funny pic of a squirrel. I'll probably pull cams once batteries die and put them back out in mid summer. Also went back to look at skull and it's definitely a doe deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
