Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag What a PITA to get person to person sales transfer however. There's only but a couple of places in WNY that'll even do it. Getting the ball rolling after the holiday weekend. Current owner has had since late '70's and used twice deer hunting and some competition shooting. Had some trigger work done, boy is it sweet . Put on Pachmayr grips too. Gun is in pristine condition. Any deer hunting ammo suggestions ? I did a little research and saw Buffalo Bore Deer Grenade +P got great reviews. Have all summer to practice with her. Now I have to find a holster for it. Optics ? yay or nay ?5 points

Not bad for dealing with the 'spur' grip. I think I could get much tighter with a reticle scope. Still fun to shoot.4 points

Seems a few good friends (two honorable member here) have missed in the past few days, WTH are you guys thinking? Damn........you gotta keep your heads in the game! I've BTDT though, one time on the very last day I flubbed a absolute gimme shot at a dandy long beard. What a sicking feeling. Now all the rest of you that read this have been jinxed.......LOL. Anymore "Mrs" we want to talk about??3 points

I have its sister, a Redhawk all blued from the same vintage with similar grips..... Shooting a hardcast 240 gr WNFP, 50 yds on that center target after some sight adjustment. Haven't taken a deer yet; buts they have performed well on pigs and an escaped Angus I had to do in LOL Belt holster in pic but have used a Shamrock made bandito holster more and like that as I can carry under a coat in lousy weather and still have easy access. http://shamrockholsters.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=553 points

I heard about another guy who had a similar but not quite so traumatic experience.. He was hunting with a very dear old friend who has tagged out and had located a gobbler... They sat until nearly 8:00 AM and heard NADA, when finally a gobbler answered up... They set up and the dear old friend was doing the calling, all our hero had to do was sit there and shoot the damn turkey.. It was a textbook call up...The gobbler stepped out at 30 yards and posed... BANG !! The shot went over the gobbler's head and the bird flushed totally unscathed, at least leaving no indication of being hit...Perhaps a result of holding on the HEAD rather than lower on the neck with the new tight patterning Longbeard XRs.. The dear old friend who had located the bird and had done the calling, commented, " How the hell do you drop those ducks and geese and crows flying at 50 MPH, and miss that great big gobbler standing there flatfooted at 30 yards ??" Actually I consider quite a feat..One poster on here not too long ago stated that it was pretty HARD to miss a turkey...2 points

I wonder if we have a mutual friend.... I was talking to one guy who probably took a pop at one a little farther than he should have. Hit the damn bird and watched him bounce 10ft in the air 3x's like a basketball before landing in a blowdown. Three other birds gathered around to watch him die. When the guy crawled out of his blind, FOUR birds took to the air. The guy was pretty determined to find the one he hit with so much blood on the ground so he searched for well over an hour. He went back to the blind to collect his thoughts and got back on the trail of the bird he suspected he hit. A few hundred yards downhill, he discovered a bird laying on the ground out in the wide open timber. To him it looked like a nesting hen the way it was laying there so he held his fire on a follow up shot since he couldn't see it's head. When he got closer to the bird it picked it's head up and took to the air again straight through a set of posted signs he can't get access to the other side of. When the guy went to look where the bird was laying, he found spots of blood that proved indeed it was the same bird he shot almost 2 hours before. Poor guy was ready to give up hunting over it till I talked him out of it!2 points

I thought I was alone tonight, so I didn't make anything…Then the wife calls and tells me that not only will my kids be home to eat, but one of their friends as well. Threw together some Giannelli Sausage, peppers and potatoes . Big hit….Did you know that the name "Giannelli" is made up ??? The two owners are brothers. ones name starts with a "G" and the other starts with an "L". so they came up with G&L- eee. They're not even Italian!!!! I think their last name is 'LEE' as in G&L-LEE Smart guys………..2 points

Prolly just a newbie hunter and that'd be MORE than acceptable. Now if THAT was an experienced, seasoned veteran hunter with many (like 40 something) seasons, living in supremo turkey country, with the eye of an eagle and the ice cold blood of a stone cold killer coursing through his veins.........I'd only give him a pass If he was a friend.1 point

I haven't even needed to stuff any ammo in my turkey thumper this year so no misses.......yet. But hunting the next 4 days so I've got time for failure. The next 3 with my daughter. I'd really laugh if she hammers one and I botch up a double on these 4 jakes we've been encountering.1 point

Nice, real nice! Looks like a lot of fun for sure. Nikon makes a real nice 22 scope for less than $150. The red dots are ok for close up shooting but I prefer a redicle for a bit further out. JMO. Either way, have fun shooting!1 point

It is my first time planting field corn, i was not under the impression that the seed was the same as feed corn. lol. kinda bummed because i could have saved the money and went to the local feed shop. but i paid 42$ for 25# they did give me an extra 5# with my purchase which was nice.. we learn from our mistakes, or trial and error i should say. I planted the screen last night, an 8-10" path around the outside edge of my soybean plot.. i till it up several times in the last a couple weeks so the dirt was perfect, i broadcast the seed just a tad on the heavy side, and adjusted my tiller to 2" depth and skimmed the top of soil to put the seed in around 2" deep as they suggested 1.5-2" and no less than 1".. see how it comes out, got a good hour long down pour immediately after planting. should be good. The majority of the seed was under the soil.. Next year ill purchase feed corn to plant knowing this lol..1 point

They are legal, because they are " a semi automatic RIFLE that do not have a DETACHABLE magazine. Before the SAFE ACT, you could pick one up for less than 200 bucks.. Now they run 4- 6 hundred+ depending on condition. 7.62x39 cal. ballistics about the same as the 30-30 Win. They are crude but crazy reliable,,They will always shoot..just like the AK1 point

Well I had ground hog day this morning. Same birds ,same gobble like crazy action at first light. Heading my way and then silence and poof they disappear. Well that's it for me this spring I had fun and shot a nice bird. Good luck to all and be safe! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I have a single hen that walks by my ground blind on a daily basis and has done so for the last 2 weeks. I call her the "gabbing hen" because I can hear her coming a mile away and she never shuts up. She constantly yelps, clucks, and cackles as she walks her daily route, but I have never had a gobbler follow her. She is so vocal that the first time I heard her coming, I thought it was another hunter trespassing on my land because I figured it was a hunter walking and excessively calling. I am sure she has a nest nearby. The only good thing is that I can practice by calling to her and she responds and we "talk" a lot. There is no better way to learn good calling techniques than by practicing with a real live wild hen.1 point

http://www.nucanoe.com/nucanoe-frontier/ I use an Open Canadain aka a canoe , Old Town Discovery 169. If you're going to go kayak for hunting and fishing, look at the above link , that's they are made for . You can stand , and even walk in them, lots of room for gear and they track very well. I've canoed 100's of miles of Rapids from the Yukon , British Columbia to local rivers and lakes. There is nothing worse then using a canoe or kayak that's made for one kind of use for another . Want to hunt and fish, buy one made for that .1 point

Well guess what..I have had hunting property since 15 years old and have always has an obsession for big bucks with big racks.I just happened to turn that into making a good living. I say qdma because they are about the only ones that will say..I want a big buck but there is so much more! Well bottom line is they want the big buck first. I can promise ya that if we stood in front of Bass Pro Shop and asked every hunter what their first wish is when it comes to deer hunting and 8 out of 10 will say...The big 10pt i have been watching on my trail cam or something like..The biggest buck i can find.1 point

My comment wasn't meant for you.. I was just using your quote for a lead-in. I agree that AR's in the form being used in NY and PA don't go far enough to actually create big bucks in large numbers. But, if you look at the size of the record book class bucks in PA since AR's started and you will see a big difference in overall size and numbers of those bucks. I've said it before and I'll say it again... AR's are only one item necessary in an overall deer management plan to improve the age structure among the buck population... bigger bucks are just a by-product of good management. AR's on their own is not deer management. I think we are trying to hard to manage whitetails in NYS with no actual goal in mind of where we want it to take us.1 point
