Was a slow week for critters so I didn't venture off to far. Edited some old pics, took a few new ones around the yard, and practiced some different technique. First time I ever got a shot of one of these guys from 4'th of July weekend. Have seen my share of them, but they don't usually sit still long enough for a good photo opp. This one's just a re-edit from spring that I just got around to fixin' up. Got a nice hummer this morning to start my day off right,lol After I blew the roof off their cozy home under the eve. Predictable dragon fly kept landing on the gladiolas. Ferocious tiger lily. Layers of leaves shading my dried up waterfalls made for a good B+W. Messing around with some "zoom blurr" and ol' glory. Not as easy as I thought it was gonna be.

I don't usually make any type of political posts at all, but I needed to say something. As I was walking by the break room at work, I noticed Hillary on the television. I didn't hear a word that was said, and only say the tagline running across the screen. "Hillary Clinton calls for Justice Reform" OK... Hillary Clinton, who just got away with treason because "She Didn't Know" she was breaking the law mishandling classified information, is calling for Justice Reform? Anyone else find this to be completely ridiculous? I spent many years in the military handling top secret material. You can't even imagine the penalty if I, even as a 19 yr old soldier, "mishandled" classified material. I really have no words, and I truly weep for the future of this country.

I've been suffering from jealousy since I learned Mrs. Curmudgeon has been encountering bobcat kittens on her morning walks. I have not seen a bobcat in the flesh in over 30 years. This morning, because I was not working, I was here when she returned. She told me she had treed a bunch, unintentionally. I quickly went out and found they were still in the tree, ending a long drought of not seeing wild cats in person. Here are some shots of the 3 young from my point and shoot camera.

Actually mine was my biggest buck to date..I was hunting state land and was playing on my phone until it just about died....didn't want to be without it so I quit playing. Was really warm out was wearing just a black t sitting on my jacket. Well nature called so I stood up turned around and took a pee. I was just sitting under a pine tree. Well I turn3d around and a 8 pt was walking right to me nose to the ground so I kneeled down and grabbed my 12g and waited for it to hop the creek to me. You need more than 1 strain to come up positive for an accurate result. Or else it's a false positive. Now I don't know for sure ............

I got down to the farm this past Friday to look things over with my hunting partner, and start coming up with plans for what we will be doing. The landowner just bought 150 acres adjoining the one farm, so we will have lots to do over there this year in addition to our other plots. We came up with a game plan for what to do on Saturday and called it an evening. Saturday morning, we headed to the farm early in the morning and started by looking for a break in the pasture fence. Next, we got the tractor and 7 foot brush-hog and started clearing out a plot we had begun clearing last summer. We had to cut out a few large thorn apple trees, so we did that and then started discussing how we want to shape the plot. Once we got things pretty much done, we turned our attention to a new horse trail that we had been wanting to put in. We spent the next few hours carving that out. By the time we were done with that, it was time to call it a day. This week we should be getting our herbicide and start spraying the brassica plots, which I would like to till and plant the last weekend of this month. Heres a few pics from the day...

I had my first deer heart this past fall from my very first harvest. My friend came up to show me how to butcher the heart with a small, fine knife. He marinated it with some oil, rosemary and crushed black pepper, and pan-seared it for a few seconds a side. It was delicious. While enjoying the tender cuts, and their mineral-ish flavor, he told me that in the Old World, the harvest and hide went to the lord of the manor, but the heart went to the hunter as a thank you, and payment. That's the story I'm running with... To the hunter goes the heart.

Dad of soon to be 92 and Mom soon to be 90 have their garden in our village garden walk again this year. He spends 6-7 hours in it everyday. It's simply gorgeous.

My folks are the same age as well, just celebrated their 67th anniversary on July 2nd this month. Their place looks awesome!!!

John, Even consider purging the membership roles of members that have been inactive for at least a year? Nice to look at the membership being at ~5800, but I'm guessing it's closer to 1/3 of that number that have actually been active over the past year.... Accidently stumbled onto this when I'd hoover my mouse over an unrecognizable member's login name that was listed on "Today's Birthdays" on the main page. Just a forum maintenance suggestion...

Update. Windows made and installed. Started stairs.... this only leaves caulk, insulation, and some stain...We're geting there.

Last night's party was great. Started with a dinner beer, Stella followed by 3 Coronas, then tried the Sam's. Switched back to Corona and had 3 more while playing cornhole. 5 jello shots and a bourbon shot as a night cap.

So here is the process so far of building dad the best hunting shack for those cold /wet/windy/snowy days. Been talking about this for years and have finally broke the ice. Still have finishing touches left but excited to have a place for dad and the grandkids.

Jeanine Pirro had an interesting interview/conversation with Sebastion Gorka last night -- Gorka is the top anti-terrorism expert at the U.S. Marine Corps Academy, BTW -- discussing Clinton's call for "the sharing of more European intelligence" in the face of Islamic terrorism. Apparently that's her 'solution'. Dr. Gorka nailed it right on the head when he sort of chuckled and said that no one in Europe is going to share their intelligence with a U.S. official who has repeatedly proven to be untrustworthy in this war. Whether it's Clinton or Obama doesn't really matter. The intel agencies often don't share it with their own leaders because of concerns about 'loyalty' and how their info will be used. Think about the consequences of that basic lack of trust among allies as we shuffle down this road. Even Pirro was a bit taken aback by the gravity and veracity of Gorka's statement, and they are two very bright and concerned individuals. I hadn't really thought of it in those terms either. It's scary. That's why the Western free world is currently losing, folks. Divide and conquer at every level. Keep that in mind when you go to vote in November.

Don't know how I missed this post . Thanks all. I woke her up yesterday morning holding up the paper. She was very pleased. Hopefully winds will be lower than forecasted for Saturday as we plan on heading out again.

So the house smells great and everything is done...I sprinkle crust with sugar before baking to brown it and don't look at my stove...it has been busy today and gets cleaned with dinner dishes...I put up swiss chard and peas as well....That pot should have melted down long ago for as much work as it does each summer fall.

Beans but not soybeans. If the deer take to the new crop like they do soybeans, you'll be in for a treat most of the fall. Enjoy...

We just missed the 5:15 one but had a 10 minute thunder storm soaker at 10:30 and another at 11:40 am. . The last one had bb size hail and 7/10 ." Smells fresh out after this rain. Every things looks a little greener.

Since this morning we have had 4 good soakers roll through...suppose to have more this afternoon...so GREAT we really needed this.

Lawns didn't grow this year, lack of rain! lol Pay someone do it for you. If we get a lot of rain it could get very high in a month. I have dealt with this and it really slows down the lawn tractor. End up cutting it twice.

There may be in the upgrade I'll be doing.

Always used fixed cut on contact, last year bought some Rage . Shot one buck he died, to small of a sample size for me to see if I'll stick with them. Your bow should shoot fieldpoints and broadheads the same anyway, I always viewed mechanicals as a solution in search of a problem ,yep the deer died same as all the ones I shot with fixed ...... On the cost ,I did not see a big deal, bought 3 heads should last me 3 years . On the subject of "knock offs" im not a fan of "knock offs," " just like," " almost as good as " type products . I'll stick with the orignals thank you, the guys who did all the R&D , the marketing incurred all the costs , made something so successful it caught the eye of the thieves who make knock,offs. Want to save money buy some fixed Mangus or Zwickey's for $8 a pop and just resharpen it after each kill .

Well the drought has caused the oaks hickory and apples to self prune their fruit and nuts.. what looked to be a good year lis looking dismal. Food plots severely stunted due to lack of water. At.least established clover fields are looking good.. gonna have to find hidden pocket near spring and hunt fields if it greens up later this summer.. mast is looking as a no show..

I found one on the center line of the highway once....I imagine one could get injured by a car and go a fair way... As I recall they are quite territorial, could also have died from injuries with another fisher/ bobcat or coyote.
