  1. Hit this guy at 6:00 PM Tuesday evening at 20 Yds after grunting him out of a bedding area. I thought I may have hit him a bit too far back, so I went home and returned the following morning to track. He went about 80 yards. This is my very first archery deer ! Town of Delevan, Catt county. Have a pic of him on the trail cam also.

  2. Just dropped off daughter at ballet 15 minute car ride consisted of : " Dad , I'm pretty excited about hunting Saturday " Never knowing if having a boy or girl I'll never regret having a girl. Bright , smart , caring , pretty young thing who enjoys something so special to me : the woods. Been putting crawlers on her own hook since she could barely walk , been taking her to " listen to the woods wake up since she was 2 for turkeys impressed with with 2 fox I shot while calling one night at age of of 4 , she's caught muskrats in her own sets trapping , never once pushed her to hunt or fish , seems it is something she took to naturally. I never could imagine loving one so tremendously. Proud dad and not afraid to boast. I'll have to photo shop out tears of joy this weekend from my ear to ear smile if she puts a deer on the ground. In a nutshell , I'm so happy to have her Some guy , some day is going to be the luckiest SOB to have her as a wife. That I know ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. I'm having a hard time having fun when I hunt anymore, so I thought maybe firing up a journal might help. At the very least, I'll be posting plenty o' pics of what I see even if I don't kill anything, and I have fun doing that, lol. The first few days of archery were pretty slow. Saw plenty of deer.., had a few doe, forkies, and 6'ers in range, but everything else kept it's distance. The pics from day #1-4 got lost while swapping out cards on the TC when I accidently formatted the wrong one. Today I got my final stand in place in time for the evening sit. I hung this one based on yesterdays sighting of 7 bucks still hanging together at the green fields(clover). I got hung and ready for action by 4pm. About an hour later the first and only buck of the night stepped into the field about 60yds out. I can't get permission to hunt this property(the field), but I do have permission for the timbered property that butts up to it. The timber turns red hot once bucks start cruising during daylight, but I'll have to suffer through a few more uneventful sits until then. Naturally my stand was hung with that in mind but it doesn't offer the best opportunity to see everything that's going on out there right now. This guy snuck in and started munching with 2 doe. I only managed to find him a few times through all the leaves still on the trees. Since I could see him I threw everything but the kitchen sink at him for calls. Grunted, rattled, bleated...... he didn't want anything to do with any of that and just kept on feeding along. He'd snap his head up and look my way when I called so I know he heard me, but he just wasn't in the mood to investigate. I climbed down early since the woods got so dark so quick. First time descending this tree so I wanted to be able to see where I was stepping on my way down and also avoid bumping any deer that were on their way to the field yet. When I reached the ground I could still see him and the doe out there so I know I didn't spook them on my way out. The 10pt is from the evening and the other from an hour AM sit at the corn field. Had 4 turkey pass by as well today. Squills were dropping nuts all around me. It sounded like it was raining at times! Man those little reds are full of energy and never slow down!

  5. I shot a doe tonight. I was right,my stand is an evening stand. She came out at 6.21. I think it is one of the ones that eats my wifes flowers. 12 yd shot, she went maybe 80 yds. Only my 2nd deer with a bow, guess who is excited.

  6. It is a sad day for me. My sweet 2005 Chevy Silverado's health has not been good of late. She has had cancer for a while and the bed has just been falling apart, the roof is the only panel with no rust. She won't pass her emissions test, her brakes are worn, her ball joints are whipped. I barely made it home from work today with an ailing transmission, but I made it, she has never stranded me. I knew it would be her last ride as I pulled her into the driveway. 2005 and only 123,456 hard miles. Plowing snow, hauling firewood, hunting trips, Nascar races, endless trips to work. We've been through a lot together in the last 12 years and I will miss her. Goodbye and thanks for the ride!

  9. Great news! MRI showed fracture is still "good" . Main problem is the swelling is causing nerve pain, in the fracture area? Changed anti inflammatory, and may take up to 3 or 4 weeks to be pain free. No lifting and have to wear the brace for that time frame. But in the meen time, heres the good part.......I can HUNT!!! As long as I don't over do it, stay out of trees, keep to fairly level ground and use extra padding in blind seats. Doc said to let my body tell me when enough is enough. And low impact activity, will actually help me feel better! I'm certain that all the good vibes, sent my way have helped! I'm so lucky! And so thankful! If I get a deer this year, I'm dedicating it to all of you!

  13. So far this year in 6 hours of bowhunting I've seen 10 deer and 5 of those we're bucks. Only one of the bucks was a shooter in my book and I couldn't get a shot. This year is shaping up to be a good one!

  22. I will say this knowing that I probably have a better chance of getting struck by lighting on the way to my stand in the morning than I do getting attacked by a coyote. But to me it is stupid that I carry a side arm everyday but I can't when I go hunting????? Stupid rule....

  24. You also need to consider how warm it has been.. movement has been limited by the temperatures.. People often forget that it wasn't that long ago that the season never opened until 10/15...

  26. With Pence as his right hand man, Trump is looking better then ever after this debate. I do agree, Pence would get my vote for POTUS before Trump, but he's not the top runner, YET! So, Trump has my vote. Every single person Hillary has in her group are crooked, lying, stealing, USA hating, racist, pond scum. I was actually being nice using pond scum! Sorry, I am not putting my vote on the side of the people who started ISIS and a race war right on our own soil, then keeps promoting that race war. Sorry, facts are facts, and the Clinton's, are criminals. We all know what they have done, and not made up propaganda.

And I said that I'm humbled and very grateful for the amount of support and well wishes, I've received from people here. You guy's and gals, have lifted my spirits more than I can say. Thank you, to each and every one of you.

  36. It's been a recurring theme so far!!! Happened again on the 2nd and 3rd...both less than 10 yds from a stand. Luckily, the season is still young and it hasn't be been one of the big boys yet.

  37. I shot up to the same stand this morning to see if I could catch anything going to bed from the field. Nothing shakin' up there so I decided to head out around 11:30AM. About half way home I spotted a deer crossing the trail in front of me 80-100yds out. I couldn't tell what it was so I went into sneaky mode and crept closer when it disappeared behind a knoll. I was on a deer trail that's worn down pretty good so it was nice and quiet. When I got to where I could see around it, I spotted a nice doe browsing around and surveying her surroundings. Then she flopped down and bedded facing down hill. I was above her so I decided to slip in as close as I could to grab a few shots. I made it to about 30yds and she was still facing away from me totally unaware I was even there. I didn't get my ML tag yet so I wouldn't be tempted to use my either sex tag on a doe and piss away my buck chance. Maybe next year if deer #'s seem to be rising here, but not this year for me unless something aweful screws up my season that leaves me with a roll of unused tags near the end. After a while I got tired of taking pictures of the back of her head so I started talking to myself out loud to get her to look my way. She finally did, but she still never budged. I waved my arms at her and still nothing. Finally when I stood up, she did too and it was off to the races, lol How come the big boys never screw up like that...?

  38. You can trap them, but can't transport off the property live. Need to kill or release on another part of your property. They prefer that rabies vectors be put down. Even with my NWCO license, I can't release onto public land. Hell, they even make it difficult for me to transport to another county or release onto private land. I gotta have written permission to release on private land.

  39. You are wrong about both. From what I understand, you cannot use a gun (shotgun or rifle) or Xbow in Westchester for DEER. But for small game (maybe turkey too) you can use a shotgun. Regarding Long Island, I believe they have a January shotgun season for deer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  45. after eating tag soup last year i wasnt passing up the opportunity to put some meat in the freezer and take a little pressure off. hoyt nitrum shooting goldtip tipped with a wasp drone 100g head she didnt stand a chance and went 10 yards and piled up instantly. now to focus on the bucks.

  46. Shot her at 2 on opening day and hit her back due to my arrow hitting the blind window and I let her lay for a couple hours and recovered her around 6.

  47. Shot at 540, waited an hour I knew the shot was high. She went about 75 yards. Arrow passed through top of the shoulder and went through the ribs opposite side but never through the skin. I will say I'm happy with the NAP killzones, there is a 2" gash through the shoulder clipped high on one lung and made a massive wound on the second. Wish it would have exited the deer opposite side, but she died fast.
