We got it done this morning before the snow started. The deer were really moving this morning. So far he's sat with me three times this year and we've gone 2 for 3. With this doe and a coyote before that.19 points

My cousin knocked this piebald down this afternoon chasing the world’s smallest doe. I seen them then heard the shot 5 minutes later. 70 yard shot with iron sight 30-3019 points

Deer season is pretty much over for me. Tagged out, got two nice bucks, was a great season! Now on to playing music! Got a big solo gig coming up in a couple weeks. A private party I've done for a few years now. Last year had well over 300 people there. They say more will be there this year! Cool! And they pay well. So I need to get in shape to give em their moneys worth! Been getting away from playing gigs for awhile now. Figured, "hell your just to old". Haven't played in a band in years, and don't care to anymore. But have helped out, and filled in on occasion when asked. I do enjoy going downstairs to play for myself, or at a campfire. But was thinking tonight, I may just book some parties and restaurant/bar gigs for this summer? I still get calls to do em. Hey....why not! I'm not dead yet! I play stuff from the 50s to some current stuff. Hank to Bruno Mars. Country, bluegrass, folk, rock, oldies, fast, slow any way ya want me to go. With an original or two thrown in. Seems to work. Almost always get asked to come back? Guess when I dont get asked to come back, then maybe then I'll be too old? What are some of your hobby's not associated with hunting?18 points

Had a little luck this morning at 8:12. Heard a buck grunting off in the distance but couldn't see him. So, I made a couple doe estrus bleats and within 30 seconds I could hear a deer coming. In came a medium sized 8Pt looking for the doe. I think it was the same one I passed at 11 yds during bow and maybe the same one I passed on yesterday at 70yds. He was out of passes this late in the season and offering a chip shot at about 35yds. Plus it was pretty cool that I called him in.12 points

I’ve posted before that we’ve got a four year tradition of filling my landowner’s tag on Black Friday with our grandson Jake from Rochester. On Friday we got a little screwed up with the combine cutting the corn that we border. We sat in our money spot overlooking a five acre old hayfield that I keep brush hogged, but didn’t see a deer on that sit. They were cutting again Saturday morning so we didn’t go out and figured we’d go for an afternoon sit over the cut cornfield. They were still cutting in the afternoon, but on the other side of the field so we opted to go back to the same stand we sat in on Friday. About 4:00 pm we had a short snouter come out milling around, followed by another, and then mommy joined them. Kept checking them out through the scope and mommy wasn’t much bigger than her fawns. I told him let’s be patient and wait for others. A few minutes later he spots a bigger deer slinking through the woods following the doe group. Get the scope on it and see small antlers. He comes out sniffing around the doe and she takes off back into the woods with her fawns following. Deer are gone from the field. Damn. 4:25 now and I’m regretting my decision to be patient. Legal time was 4:38, so Jake is watching the clock, and a couple of minutes later we see a small doe come out of the far corner about 200 yds. Watch it through the scope and see mommy in the tree line. She comes out to feed with her fawn and they are facing us, no shot opportunity. Clock is ticking and she will not turn broadside. Head down feeding, occasionally up to look around and back to feeding always facing directly toward us. 4:36 now and Jake calls the two minute warning. Cmon doe, turn, will ya? Finally she quarters slightly, and Jake says is that your shot? Bang - doe drops in place. What time is it Jake? 4:37, no, just clicked to 4:38. Shot clock expires and so did the doe. Forgot to take a field pic, and he was cold so we went back to the house and I went to get it with the tractor. Four years/four does in a row with him now. Can’t wait til he’s old enough to pull the trigger himself!12 points

Ok I don’t usually post doe kills but ..... this one is a bit special. For what it’s worth, Natalie was kicking my butt at Descendants trivia when 3 walked in. 2 left.12 points

We like to camp and go kayaking. Usually camp at our land once a year, and go on a few trips up north every summer. Living in the finger lakes, we have a lot of opportunities to kayak. Made sure to pick hobbies that would include my wife. She's a good sport about me being gone all hunting season, so hanging with her in summer is the least I can do!5 points

Hiking/camping, photography, and now drone video/photography. Basically anything that'll give me a reason to get outdoors.5 points

Well , deer were on the move today by me I saw 7 deer total 4 bucks. A pretty young 6 that I had all day to shoot came straight toward my stand and stopped at around 10 yards. Let him walk, at @4:00 I had a war torn wide 8 come from the neighbors field stopped at 75 yards I had a brief neck shot but wasn’t comfortable waited for him to give me another chance and it wasn’t meant to be as he kept walking along stonewall with intermittent saplings in the way. With 3 in the freezer it’s all good happy to have some nice action. My son saw three does at his stand. Congrats to those that connected today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

There is no excuse for this "hunter" !! He should be prosecuted, and do hard time! My grandson and I had a monster buck standing on the top of a ridge on Saturday. Only thing we could see behind him was sky. I called off the shot. Easy call. No idea where that bullet would have ended up had my grandson missed, or had a pass through. This non shot, is stressed at every hunter ed course we give! I sincerely hope your neighbor fully recovers. My prayers to him and his family.4 points

I have been getting back into bushcrafting and back woods camping for the past 7 years. I might have a few health issues that keep from doing it full on these days, but like you said, I'm not dead yet, so I want as much dirt time as I can get. Got my ferro rod and knife fire starting skills almost fully dialed back in over the past Spring, Summer, and fall. Got a fire going with wet wood using this method on our week long camp up North, some fat wood helped a lot. Even started the wood stove using hard wood shavings and my mini ferro rod. I set some goals for this coming Spring and Summer. #1, even though I cannot sleep on the ground anymore, I am going to set up a tarp shelter and sleep on my cot under that. I might pick up some bug netting to use for this as well to keep skeeters from invading. Also for the first time in my life, I bought a folding hand saw. They work wonders in backwoods camping. Most of the time I look for wood I can just break over my knee, but having a few logs with more diameter makes it nice not to have to feed the fire every 1/2 hour or less. I just wanna be outdoors!4 points

Love that old style stock on the 500's. Don't care much for the newer stocks. Congrats to all the deer killers that got it done the past few days.4 points

To all my fellow big woods hunters, a wish for a great Thanksgiving Holiday in the woods or at home. My family will be warmed by the woodstove, playing card games after dark under the hiss of a propane light after a great cooked holiday meal prepared entirely at camp. Warm holiday wishes and safe travels....3 points

As soon as ice gets on my lakes, I am ice fishing. I do it every weekend and lots of times I fish for crappies at night after work. My wife hates most of my hobbies, but she likes to go out on warmer days to fish and grill up some fresh fillets on the ice. I also have one little girl that is 6 that is ready to go anytime i call, and she is always a joy to have around the shanty and loves to chase flags on the tip ups. From late March til October I go all over attending dirt modified races. I grew up around it just like hunting, and it has stuck with me my whole life.3 points
