I spent some time with my grandaughter (around lunchtime) practicing archery in the backyard before heading to the woods. Got the spot I wanted (the spot I hunted Sunday) with perfect wind. Found lots of fresh sign and climbed the same tree I sat Sunday. Around 3:00 ish I saw what I thought was a 6 point headed my way browsing slowly. It took about 5 minutes for the deer to come within range, but behind brush. I kept thinking Crappie would say what a sexy six. Twice I drew and had to let down as the deer took its sweet time to clear the cover. At 15 yards, I drew and held as the deer was facing towards me. Eventually, at about 10 yards the deer turned enough to expose vitals and I let the arrow loose. The deer ran a few yards and I could see my arrow and lighted nock stuck in the ground. The deer walked in a 10 yard circle as if it was trying to figure out what just happened. Then the deer trotted off. That was the strangest reaction I have ever witnessed from a deer that had been wounded. I took compass reading of last sighting of the deer and sat wondering what just happened. Curiosity got the better of me and within 15 minutes, I was on the ground checking out the arrow and looking for confirmation of the hit. I found white hair and the arrow was covered in rumen. My heart sank. Did I blow a 10 yard shot? My mind raced as I tried to understand what went wrong between release and impact and trying to correlate that with the deer's reaction. Nothing made sense, so when in doubt, back out. I packed up, marked the point of impact and headed out. My rout would take me in the direction the deer had headed. Eighty yards away, to my surprise, I saw the deer laying dead. I was so thankful and relieved. I went from one of my lowest of lows to the highest of highs. Turns out the sexy six was a fine five, but I was happy none the less. From what I could tell, the arrow hit both lungs, liver and stomach. Not sure how that happened. Anyway, I am relieved that it was a humane kill. Better yet the deer ran 80 yds closer to the truck, so win-win. The 400 yd drag was all uphill, but I knew that going in. I may still "hunt" in January, but it will be more about getting outdoors than anything else. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk18 points

So I have decided to go on a journey and start to eat better. I know this is something many do and sometimes struggle to find healthy food that tastes good. I will chronicle some of my meals here and updated on my progress as well. Tonight was the start and I’ll see how it goes. Half roasted chicken with quinoa broccoli and asparagus. I make a simple sauce of lemon juice, salt and pepper to go over the top Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk8 points

I'm less concerned about the ongoing differences of opinion than I am that the sides have stopped listening to each other. There is value in keeping an open mind and not trying to dismiss your opponent's argument before even considering it. I hear these calls for civil war, and I'm guessing that the callers haven't a clue as to what that would entail. No matter what folks claim, we live in a free country. This thread is proof of that. I think that we've been in a good place for so long, that we've forgotten how bad things can get. Forget history, doomed to repeat it and all. One of our adjacent landowners in an old German woman. She lived through WWII, and she tells me, "Cleave to the middle, loudly and firmly. I've seen what happens when you let the extremists have their way". So this is me, standing firm in the middle. Remember, we have more in common than not. Okay, jumping off the pulpit to go shoot some deer - there's snow on the ground in WNY!!8 points

In case anyone is curious I got a good example of how far a buck will go after it’s jumped this morning… I kicked up a 2 or 3 year old still hunting and 20 minutes later it trotted by a cell cam a mile away on the other side of the road. Honestly pretty surprised… he passed by plenty of good options within 1/4 to 1/2 mile but I guess felt the need to cross a road and over a half mile of open fields in broad daylight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

CDC changed isolation from 10 days to 5 days so people can return to work quicker. soon it will be 3 days, and then finally 0 days like we should have done for the past 24 months and we'd be way ahead of where we are now with the same exact outcome.3 points

Back to the original topic: Let's face it there is no rhyme nor reason to any of this. I personally know of a family of five that have all been vaccinated and decided to get tested because they were planning on visiting relatives over the holidays. Lo and behold one of the five tested positive so all five have to quarantine. Just yesterday my daughter called to tell us that her and her husband are sick and got tested. Both have the exact same symptoms. After two different types of tests each with the same results he has covid and she is negative. He is up and around after a couple of days and says the effects were no worse than a bad cold. Best part of it is they believe they got sick from someone visiting from out of state that felt "off" but not really sick. Said person flew back home on Sunday and was back to work on Monday without getting tested and her husband has tested positive. Two of my daughters' touch hole relation have not had a vaccination, have had covid twice, and continue to go about their business with no concerns. One of the two stands to lose his six-figure job working for a company under federal contract because he refuses to get the shot. Another relative and wife who refuse to get the shot (along with their adult children) remain healthy and unaffected even though their unvaccinated adult children and grandchildren have all had covid and visited on a regular basis. Seems to me it really doesn't make a difference whether one gets the vaccination or not. It is not preventing people from getting covid and at best will reduce the severity one could experience. Like one contagious disease expert said in a recent interview. Vaccinated or not we are all likely to contact covid. How each person reacts to the virus will vary from person to person. Until they develop a shot or pill that can cure or prevent covid we are all at the mercy of the virus and can only hope for the best outcome if infected. To get vaccinated or not should remain a personal choice.3 points

There is plenty of evidence of voter fraud, just nobody chooses to report on it or do anything about it.... We have an election that is impossible to audit. Does that seem ok to you? Would you run a business this way?3 points

This didn’t work out too good for my brother yesterday. He saw 15 deer walking through the woods in a single file (yarding up?) and shot at the last one…sabot hit the deer at 40 yards and bounced off. Apparently only part of one of the pellets ignited.3 points

Honestly the best I’ve ever done was following a weight watchers book. I didn’t do the meetings or anything just did the book and the point system. It really taught you to eat healthy and smaller portions. Not a fancy designer diet just plan ol taking care of yourself. I probably dropped 40 pounds following weight watchers and working out 45-60 min a day 3-4 days a week. Which was before kids and a lot easier to do. A big dinner and a drink or two at night is what’s killing me right now along with the holiday eating. I just got done crushing 15 wings and 2 IPA’s out to dinner with the family. We have planted them before pretty heavily and we're seeing under-utilization like never before. That's across a few different properties miles apart. It's a weird year. We don't rely on the plots but often late season you can find one or two situations where you can make a move. This season - not a single move so far to be had. Between cams, scouting, and stand observations, there isn't a four year old in the mix. A pair of three year olds that we'd prefer make it to next year - both 110-120. A buck we counted on being around this time is MIA; we have his shed from last season and he was a homebody for the late season on our ground. He disappeared after velvet and I have to assume someone cleaned his clock. Shame because we passed him due to a broken g2 last three days of MZ last year. He was a bully buck and was at least 5.5 this year.2 points

It was propaganda that Trump didn't colude with Russia. Anyone that said there was no Russian Collusion was villified. It was propaganda that the virus came from a Chinese Lab. It was propaganda that Biden was corrupted by China. Its propaganda to say anything about voter fraud. Anyone who does is villified, even though there is plenty of evidence that there was and is voter fraud.2 points

i always fire a primer as the only misfire issues ive ever had were from the gun sitting all year and then wouldnt fire off the first primer at the range before season. This happened to me twice. I think its from sitting and any left over cleaning solution runs down the barrel over the year. But since ive done that never had a problem. It basically burns off or cleans out the area and is good to go. Well worth one primer to be sure2 points

I need to lose 30 for sure. I'm gonna get back to my regimen too. I lost 100 pounds years ago and have since put 40 back on over the last 12 years. I will eat basically one meal a day. Meat and vegetable. And every other day is soup. Anything else is a small bowl of cereal. I will still have breakfast on the weekends as that's my thing. But it will be my only real meal and I will have it midday and also cut that down with less carbs. And of course lots of working out or chores. Hopefully a lot of that will be working on the hunting spot and hiking with the dog. And also back on the regimen of every night from 6-7 is workout time. Good luck Chef! It sucks being a good cook sometimes. Lol.2 points

I used this guy for the first and last time this year. Was given a deer from the holiday special hunt. As most processors were closed I took the deer to Larry's. Who puts meat on foam plates wrapped with cling-wrap? This guy. What does he think I'm going to do, have a cook out the same day as I pick it up? My wife & I had to repackage all the meat so it could go in the freezer. We also ended up with less than 14 lbs of meat. It was a small buck but there should have been at least 25 lbs. of meat. For what he charged I could do better myself. Hope this is his last year of deer processing.2 points
