  7. Since when? The September 2023 law mentioned above? I wasn’t aware of this - guess I need to educate myself on it! I’ve previously had muzzleloaders shipped directly to my door, but that was several years back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. NY S51001 First, the state redefines ‘rifle’ and ‘shotgun’ to not only include “common, modern” firearms, but also muzzle loading, flintlock, and black powder varieties. Typically excluded due to their outdated designs and limited use – especially in crimes and gun violence – the bill ensures transactions involving firearms of all types are protected by a background check. NY penal law 265- definition of a rifle. 11. "Rifle" means a weapon designed or redesigned, made or remade, andintended to be fired from the shoulder and designed or redesigned andmade or remade to use the energy of the explosive to fire only a singleprojectile through a rifled bore for each single pull of the triggerusing either: (a) fixed metallic cartridge; or (b) each projectile andexplosive charge are loaded individually for each shot discharged. Inaddition to common, modern usage, rifles include those using obsoleteammunition not commonly available in commercial trade, or that loadthrough the muzzle and fire a single projectile with each discharge, orloading, including muzzle loading rifles, flintlock rifles, and blackpowder rifles. Nys NICS page states - More information will be provided in the upcoming weeks regarding a new mechanism for processing background checks for Muzzleloader sales. As of right now theirs no Legal way to do a NICS check on a muzzleloader since its not federally a firearm, and it appears NYS has no clue how to do it either. If someone enters the MZ as a rifle, that it also an illegal use of NICS system.

  14. I keep up on NYS gun laws just not here. It gets way out of control the stuff people say, Dems and Republicans. I turned off the thread years ago and I'm very happy!

  15. I have myself purchased muzzleloaders and had them shipped to me with no problem. The exceptions are gun frames that can be interchanged with regular cartridge barrels like the Thompson Center Encores and some CVA muzzleloading rifles. Those have to be purchased the same as a modern firearm through an FFL holder along with the background checks. Al

  16. It's funny that thread was posted in the General Chit Chat section, when it is obviously political and would've been moved to the political section in the past by the guy that started the thread. Hunting is threatened by politics. Lots of hunters don't want to think about it and prefer to make believe it isn't. There's an old adage that says, "There are 3 types of people in the world, those that make things happen, those that watch things happen, and those that ask, "What happened?". A hunter not remaining informed about politics is in the latter position. I can understand how the political section was isolated from general posts because of people complaining it took up most of their feed, but to me that proves how bad political threats to hunting have become. I don't think it wise to ignore that. Like anything else, many folks would rather avoid a fight than defend their rights, and our enemies count on that.

  18. There are many bills each legislative session that are introduced and some make it past committee for floor votes. So you are correct, this law wont be the last. Eventually they’ll whittle around the edges of hunting its inevitable. Theres a few efforts to limit even personal possession of certain trophies, similar to California. I expect that to pass at some point .Big five, and assorted others species including giraffe/hippo/some antelope have been written and in committee several times in addition to other big cats from around the world. The only thing thats stopped current efforts is the importation hub at JFK and writing a comprehensive enough bill that regulates transiting through there versus remaining in NY and thats a Federal jurisdiction. And general deer hunters wont care about any of that either as it wont affect them, no surprise there.

  20. New York Bans Hunting Contest. How many of you knew this was coming down the pipeline? Another strong argument for getting the political thread back in the main steam.

  21. Nice deer. It's funny but I own my original piece of property that is about 60 acres. An elderyly couple had a 11 acre parcel next to me. I helped them out here and there and became friends. When the husband died she asked if I would buy the place which I did. We have killed more big bucks on that 11 acres than the 60 I own. Two of my best stands are on that property!

  22. We always have a choice when it comes to subjects that pertain to our gun rights and the legal and political challenges to our second amendment rights. We can discuss and educate each other on the causes of and solutions to those challenges, or we can bury our heads in the sand and remain ignorant, silent and inactive. That section, if used correctly could be a major organizational challenge to the anti-gun and anti-hunting movement. Yes there have been abuses of that section of this site, but we have the choice as to whether to engage in those abusive discussions or not. But in my mind that section is one of the most potentially important parts of this whole site. It is a shame that we are scared or reluctant to use it the way I'm sure it was intended.

  23. It's a strong subject for pro and anti firearm ownership in New York. Heating debates on this site showed that. I want my children, grand children, and their children to have the same right I have been given to own and bear firearms.
