The Feds arrest Bundy and others even kill one of the activists. However, in Baltimore, the police are ordered to stand down and let the protesters throw rocks at police and burn and destroy property. In Ferguson activists are allowed to destroy private property steal and shoot at police. BLM groups all over the country are allowed to take over bridges. The 1%ers were allowed to take over parks in our country for weeks, destroying them. Why aren't the Feds arresting the leaders of these groups as well? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

They should open Sterling Forest to the early bear season, that is where they are in Orange county. Have not seen any bears or bear sign in Stewart or Pochuck Mountain our other public hunting parcels. There is no bear hunting at West Point, have to be active military or a vet. They want the bear pop. reduced, allow us to hunt where they are. But then again, that would be logical.2 points

I do it every year in the pens. Just wait and try to catch the last part of winter thaw when there is still a bit of snow and broadcast right into the snow. If you are on a hillside you will get some runoff. I always go on the heavy side with the seeds when winter frost seeding.2 points

Side story: Todd took off on a deer once and got lost. Another friends grandfather told him to take his jacket off and leave it near the last place you saw him, he will be laying on it in the morning. Sure enough, he was!2 points

That is the same caliber of generalization as was used to oppose the crossbow. Didn't hold water then and doesn't now. All compound archers did not oppose the crossbow. Actually more that I knew were for it than against. Why on earth does everything have to turn into a pissing match? (generalization?..lol) I haven't weighed in the the Air gun yet so here goes. INCLUDE THEM. If they can generate adequate energy to ethically kill a deer then why not? Hell I wouldn't care if they started a spear season. hunters need to worry less about what others are doing and just go freaking enjoy what we do2 points

Never trust your life to just one ratchet strap holding the stand in place. On our ladder stands, we lag bolt a bracket on each side of the back of the stand behind the seat to make sure that the stand will not be held by just a ratchet strap. The lag bolted brackets are squirrel and rot proof and are rock sold. We leave the stands in the woods for the whole year. I'm using just ladder stands now, however, when I used hang on stands I used 2 ratchet straps just to be sure.1 point

The good news is: It sounds like your freezer is not empty and inspite of the difficulty, you do enjoy yourself. Seven weeks off work is a vacation bordering on partial retirement. Gotcha beat - Retired. [Grinning]1 point

I bought one for myself and one for my daughter last fall. It's a nice call, sounds great, and I like the slide on the side of the call to adjust the tone. So much nicer (and quicker) than having to pull the call apart to adjust the O-ring inside, like many other calls that I've had. The extinguisher never froze up on me either (as advertised). They sure seem to work well on that show on the Pursuit Channel anyways! LOL I saw this guy at ~100 yards away. He was heading into a thicket with no intentions of coming towards me. I grunted once and he raised his head and looked in my direction. I grunted once more and he came in galloping straight to me!1 point

My brother in law just moved to the Walden last spring. He really lucked out - was in Texas at a conference and flew directly to Florida for a weeks vacation on Friday afternoon. The other guys he was with there couldn't fly back home to NY. Normally North of I84 is bad as well as by me, it tends to funnel into the valley I am in. I got about 10 inches out of this storm,. The office in Westchester Co. got about double that. One of other staff members here finally made it in from Queens today. I usually hear its not bad, it didn't snow much, meanwhile I usually get double what comes at the office. Now I can tell them what big snow storm? It was only a typical Orange Co. snow fall.1 point

Ok. I don't have any understanding of the issues ranchers have with federal land. Of course if Bundy broke the law he deserves to be arrested. I am just trying to understand why the Feds ignore the activists on the left. They're actions have victimized many thousands more people than these guys in Oregon have. I will be the last person to tell another how to do what ever they please. I myself do not cut the pelvis bone or the skin covering it I cut from the rib cage to where the pelvic bone starts. I have no need to dry out any more meat then is necessary by cutting through it and exposing it to air. for the record I have been a butcher for over 25 years not just deer but livestock also and believe me I have seen my share of field dressing jobs that make you say what were they thinking. .1 point

If I recall correctly, there's a few great videos on YouTube about what to do after you've fallen & suspended by your safety vest. Do yourself a favor and plan out this situation, being suspended in mid-air could be as disastrous as any fall. Those seat & back rest cushions, arm or gun rail pads are a PITA. I collect mine every year after the season. They're attached with Velcro or bungee cords and removing them will prolong their usefulness a few years. I've replaced some pads with pipe insulation and (camo) duct taped it to keep moisture off the foam. FYI - Carry a seat cushion to your ladder stand each hunt. Nothing will shorten a hunt faster than sitting on a wet cushion!!! Do yourself a favor when replacing ratchet straps & splurge on better, stronger ones, at least the 1500/2000# ones. Be surprised how much more secure they will attach the stand to the tree than the ~600# cheapo ones supplied with the stand! Also, replace that skimpy rope the mfger supplies with the stand with thicker rope. They go from each side of upper ladder section, criss-cross around the tree and back to bottom of ladder. BTW - Lot of great threads on this forum over the years about ladder stands; safety, maintaining them, where to locate or orientate them, hiding their outline or camo-ing them, how to erect them safely & easily, etc.1 point
