I didn't carry the camera as much as I wanted to this past fall, but I did get a few new shots. Figured I'd post up some color since we're stuck in this white and brown pattern for a few months yet.

Ran out for a quick hike behind the house this evening and found my first ever weather balloon! I got a little nervous when I first spotted it. First thing that came to mind when I saw that blaze orange up in the treetops from a distance was there was a hunter hanging there since deer season. Fortunately it wasn't anything morbid as that. As much as I was tempted to open it up to see what's inside, I resisted from doing so. It came with a pre-paid envelope/bag to mail it back in one piece so that's what I'll do. Released out of Buffalo on 8/13/15. It took about a 35 mile ride before crash landing where I found it now almost 5 months later.

I've also been the mule MANY times for the older guys and now I'm getting long in the tooth too. I'll grab the 'wheeler anytime I can or even drive right up to them as often as possible. This past archery season I did something I've never done: called in TWO guys to help drag the beast. 205lbs of good times..................

I have to confess my stand is heated I built it as most know on a hay wagon chassis and and put it together in the field (to tall to move on the road) its 8'x12' and I take my grand children hunting with me and they love it just cannot get them to stop calling it a tree fort LOL. but yes its heated and most of the time they set in it in only a light sweat shirt. It over looks 400 yd shots although between laughing, playing cards and and other games we have yet to shoot a deer at least when there with me, but we have a great time anyways!! just for the record I have shot many deer from this stand just I have yet to shot one with my grand children there with me but I have the memories and I can shot deer almost any time.

Back in the day, I used to drag 'em out for the old guys. Now I IS the old guys..If I am hunting alone and can't the machine close to 'em, I don't shoot 'em.. One exception is the place I hunt in PA...It's downhill all the way to the truck.

Here's some mammal shots. The daytime shots are from the bone yard - where the carcasses go once they are picked over. The last photo is the golden that was caught this week.

I have to say...I shot my gun buck in stocking feet this year...I put an underlayment of rubber then indoor out door carpet down...the new blind I never got the floor insulated but the one I have the target at ,the floor is insulated and has a wool oriental carpet in it...

At your age Doc, I don't think you need to worry about it lasting too long. HAHAHA. JK

At 50 or 100 yards it is insignificant with a firearm. If you are shooting up or down at sharp angles ( say 45 degrees or more) and longish ranges, it might be worth considering.

Dragging deer in Pa. was always a labor of love. Uphill was tougher, but always shorter. Downhill was easier, but always a long way back to the truck. Getting deer through a swamp is the toughest, especially when the water/mud is neck deep.

Super Bowl fare. Mozz stix & pizza rolls with salsa, garlic-parm & habenero hot wings, and of course chips and salsa.

I haven't seen the story, but why not? A good friend from high school grabbed a backpack and a cheap bicycle in 1977 and headed out to see a girl in Minnesota. The girl thing didn't work out for him but he ended up spending 20 years circling the globe three times on a bicycle. He doesn't regret any of it.

I bet I am at least 10 years older then Doc and Iintend on lasting longer, haha and I buy green bananas too. An old time builder mentioned to me when I built a shed over 10 years ago to staple Tar paper under the floor ,I did and no wood rot and dry on the inside, the floor is rough cut hemlock. I still have a young mind set...but know when I'm beat...having to hoof it up the hill near 3/4(1/2 mile up then 1200ft to the house) of a mile hoping my son was still around was a must...and even though he was not happy seeing how big and where the buck was we had a great time getting him out...first time ever I have needed help at the house. I'll never forget the look on his face when he finally crawled through the rose and saw him " What the hell Mom!, why would you ever put a stand down in this?!"...lol I just said.... your looking at why...Yes great memories...

Elmo - My wife ( Dr Maxine as I call her ) already told me to see my doctor to get a prescription for "high altitude pills" . I am not a traveler and could really care less about going but don't want to be a party pooper . I hope they have escalators there !

I've had a trail cam on a tree for a couple of months. Wouldn't you know the first shed I find was under leaves on the backside of the tree. Must be from last year.

#1 and #2..........found a couple weeks ago. I've already posted these in an earlier thread:

Killed a beauty this morning, my best archery buck ever. 13 points, 18.5" inside-21.5" outside spreads and 205 pounds dressed and witnessed. Killed him in East Aurora. Perfect shot (although I'd have been pleased with JUST a double lung) dead center in the heart. He went probably 150 yards before expiring..........on the neighbors land! I made a quick phone call to the neighbor and they denied permission to drag him to their driveway so we had a longer more difficult pull a head of us. "Us" is the extra help I called in; a friend and his son from Hamburg. I'd have had to scramble for more distant recruits if they couldn't make it!! It was about all we could do to drag him back to the truck but we got it done.

The plan was to hunt to 9:00 then for Joe and I to put a new rather large ladder stand as Joe had be leave by 10:30 and I needed help putting it up. Joe went into the thick stuff and saw 4 bucks and 1 doe, while I saw nothing..... Then this guy crossed a large field and entered the woods I'd say 100 west of me around 8:45 or so. A bit later I saw antlers heading my way, I stood up,with bow ready he's coming straight towards me , he passes and at less then ten yards I shoot. Rear quartering but I hit high! No pass through either, he ran a bit than walked off, I heard one snap. 30 minutes later I thought I'd check the blood but figured I'd be coming back in 6 hours to look. Blood was very good an easy track he went about 100 yards. 6 pt, no brow tines. I know not a nice woods picture but I got a kick out of this picture !

This is my 14 year old son Luke he shot this buck Halloween morning. Grunted him into 15 yards double lung him crashed at 70 yards. Nice 2 1/2 year old. Biggest buck so far.

Well the warm temps had me questioning going out today in Suffolk county, nailed a nice doe at 7:30, decided to hang out a little longer, well mr big comes walking in 30 min later, and I took my best buck with a bow to date, 8 ptr with one tine snapped off.

Hmmmmmm, The one that would enable me to get the others back. Robby
