  2. I can't thank you guys enough. We heard we might get another call later this week. I wrote telling her to be on the lookout for extra mail coming her way. I did receive a letter from her saying she was sorry she got so emotional on the call but felt it was therapeutic and needed to get it out! We have an official Alpha Company West Point page that a lot of photos get posted to. Each company has a photographer. Here is a few of her with huge smiles on her face! Maybe she got a few letters from you guys! Seems she is doing much better!!!

  7. I rolled my standing winter rye in early June and planted my pumpkins in it. It kept the weeds down. I slung some Antler King Slam Dunk into the dead rye and that came in nice also.

  8. Planted a small plot of Antler King Honey Hole (brassica) last Sunday into standing buckwheat and rolled it. Got rain that night and it was coming up in 4 days.

  9. Went to New Paltz today. She said it is maybe number 5 on her list. Just wasn’t to impressed with their communication department. She just felt uncomfortable the entire time. She loved the area and the scenery but she didn’t even want to stay and eat. Just wanted to get back home so she could go to work tonight. oswego set the bar very high for her expectations of what she wants from a college and the surrounding area.

  12. Shot my 300 Blackout today , funny part was as I was kneeing loading mags a really wide buck stepped into the beans 40 yards from me . A bit low but I’m ok with this , the red dot is real nice , my back up iron sights are a bit hard to see . Next time I’ll shoot through the sight without the dot on, see what just centering the target does .

  13. Every year this object appears , the local deer know , a Godlike , Hunter , Warrior will soon follow as soon as the Fall moon raises , and smell of Irish Spring permeates the woods . To appease this Great Hunter , they’ll leave bits of bones , feathers and other sacred objects of the woods, at its base , in hopes that they’ll not be this year’s sacrifice .

  15. This is friends property . The old stand next to it was built in 2008.. he decided to replace it with this. At my place they only go in proven funnel or feed areas usually 10 years or more of deer knowledge at spot. I do not put in ground as i can simply brace and lift with forks on tractor. I have only.moved 1 ..2x now. 2x due to a new neighbor building near it and wouldnt be legal to hunt out of. And 2nd time was to get it into a better area that was more commonly hunted. Now i will do habitat work to keep deer in box blind areas but usually just to keep them closer to it as mine tend to be funnel / travel areas.

  20. We have a few threads going on but thought maybe one fall plots chit chat kinda thread would be nice. We can keep it running with updates as we all progress. I'll be honest I'm nervous as heck about the next few weeks as it's already super dry and nothing looks like rain for the near future. Pair that with some vacations and work this year could be dicey. I sprayed last week on a 1 acre plot that I intend to do half beets and greens and half winter greens. What are you planting for the fall and when do you typically target getting seed in the ground? My goal is before 8/20 and believe it or not that's just 3 weeks away!

  39. That’s something I got to get done over the next few weeks. I received a new field car today (traded a buddy my old camper for it). The first thing I did with it, was see how it did on the trails back to the range. The Durango all wheel drive suv did very well. It has a much better suspension than the tractors I have been using to get back there the last few years. There is lots of cargo room with both rows of back seats folded down. I may take (7) guns back there next time. I will start with my Ithaca 16 gauge, which also uses Remington sluggers (I bought a case of them for $1 a box when a sporting goods store in Brewerton had a going out of business sale about 21 years ago). I am still very well stocked with those. That gun will definitely need sighting, because I exchanged the slug barrel with a bird barrel, for spring turkey season. It has a 1.5 Weaver mounted on the receiver. It is a smoothbore with an effective range of about 100 yards. The next one I will check is my Marlin 512 fully rifled bolt action 12 ga. It has an effective range closer to 200 yards (my longest deer kill with it was 163). I am pretty well stocked with sabot ammo for it. Those first two shotguns are scoped, so I will also bring back my open-sighted Remington 870 with short, smoothbore 12 ga barrel. That’s my rainy day gun and it’s effective range is about 75 yards. I am fairly well stocked with 12 ga rifled slugs, but not as well as I am with 16’s. If I have enough time, I will add my T/C Omega ML to the mix. I don’t expect that will need any major adjustments because it was right on the mark on a deer that I killed with it on New Year’s Day, just as it was on another, last October. If I have time to sight in the ML, I might as well also check my Marlin 336 BL 30/30, because I will be hunting with that on the weekend after early ML week, up in the northern zone. Guns number 6 and 7 will be my open sight Marksmen .177 pellet rife and my Ruger 10/22. I plan on bringing that pellet rifle along, as a second gun, on those September antlerless deer hunts. Squirrels will be “targets of opportunity” on those hunts, and the relatively silent report of the pellet rifle should not spook too many deer. I never go to the range without my 10/22, unless I don’t have room for it. That definitely won’t be a problem with the Durango and it’s gigantic cargo hold. Here it is, parked in front of the backstop, looking up at my 50 and 100 yard benches:

  42. I don't usually pull the card after only week, but I wanted to see the effect of the trim. They are absolutely hammering the chicory since I trimmed it. Every single night a hundred pics. Mostly bucks of all stripes. A couple of doe, but I get the feeling the doe are smaller in number because they're being territorial right now with the fawns being so small. Once the bush hog gets back from the welder I'll trim the rest of it in stages. Do another 1/3 of it, wait 2 weeks, do the last 1/3 of it.
