josephmrtn
Well i finally did it!!! went out this eve an setup my dad in a stand w my rifle then went an setup a ground blind along a field edge, sat about 2 hours and out popped 3 deer... they knew something looked funny and were kinda nervous but the 2 smallest ones came in to about 20 yards an gave me a nice broadside shot... i thought i double lunged him but as it turned out i hit a little far fwd and missed the lungs although i cut thru a ton of arteries, he whirled an ran about 150 yards into the woods an crashed, let him lay for around an hour and headed up to blood trail him, had a huge blood trail!!! he was still alive when i came up on him so i drilled him from 10 yards thru the heart laying down to make sure he wasnt going anywhere... needless to say im PUMPED!!!!!!!!!! also dad killed his first deer this eve just seconds after i killed mine!! (it turned out my "doe" was a button buck)

HuntOrBeHunted
One question I do have. Why do you hang your deer from the head. Good to make a cut on the neck an let the blod drain down. All the best meat is on back legs an straps.
DeerDuck
Congratulations to both of you ! I'm sure it makes an even better memory that you when hunting with your dad.
covert
Center punched that heart. Nice shot. One question I do have. Why do you hang your deer from the head. Good to make a cut on the neck an let the blod drain down. All the best meat is on back legs an straps. Two reasons for me: 1) That's how Dad did it so that's how we've always done it. 2) That's where their hangers (horns) are!
