fasteddie
Always liked sardines in oil .... no favorite brand . When I was a kid , I really liked smoked herring but it sure made for bad breath . But then bad breath is better than no breath at all ! fasteddie
I made a couple of Mediterranean Cruises when in the Marine Corps . We would buy several cans of sardines . Someone would volunteer to go to the mess hall late at night and get some saltine crackers . We would have sardines and crackers and coffee and play cards until the wee hours of the morning .
DirtTime
Saltines and Ritz are great with sardines. I also like ( this might not sound like it would be good but...) sardines on original nacho Dorito's.

Pygmy
LOVE Sardines. paired up with a very good Limburger cheese and a spicy mustard. mmmmmmmmmm Also a huge anchovies fan. white pizza with anchovies and artichoke hearts. I'm very fond of anchovies, too, but for some reason I don't care for them on pizza. I'll eat 'em every day right out of the jar on crackers or in a salad. One of my old retired buddies takes Hungarian wax peppers out of his garden, stuffs them with anchovies and then marinates them olive oil every summer. Along about Thanksgiving time he gives me a few. I look forward to them every year. Some day I'm going to try doing them up like that myself.

It's something you eat when you are hungry and there is no REAL food available...<<GRIN>>..

Water Rat
When I was a kid , my dad would make his infamous sardine sandwich on pumpernickel bread with onions and limburger cheese. The stench in the kitchen back then would have gagged a maggot. Personally , I have never tried sardines ( I think I was traumatized ) , but have used them on my trap line.
