Don't panic ....go back in the morning if you can't get in touch with deer search & pick up the trail again. Mark the spot where you last found blood and start doing a grid search. Keep in mind that a lot of times they will double back the way they came. If not pushed he will more than likely lay down & expire by morning.  Cross your fingers the coyotes don't get to him before you do.

2 does hanging out in thick stuff around 20 yards away. Close enough so I can see them too far to get clean shot

There were 3 does that got within 10 yards of me but we're behind really thick stuff. I heard some leaves crunching and watched the 3 does. One of them peed and then they all sprinted off. Then another doe came in from where the crunching was coming from followed by a big 6. I tried bleating to get him in. But he was hot on her tail and kept his distance.
But this spot seems good!

Thanks doe buck, it looks small compared to my 2 full mounts but I'm very happy for how this bow season turned out. Can't wait for gun to open, where I'm at its not a war zone so deer should still move naturally. Plus looks like they are cutting my corn field tomorrow. Can finally watch them from my kitchen window.

Decided to go to Rivers  blind..I no sooner got a bolt on the bow and took my coat off I hear a commotion in front of the blind. Just as I look out the window, a deer runs under the blind and into the slashing. Then at dark I look down the lane way  an adult doe is standing on her  hind legs working a very high licking branch. I  know this because I saw the pretty 8 pt. use the same one a few days ago. Then ran down last the ins like a scalded cat. Stopped 50 yrds out and started to feed...I'm staring to feel a bit vindictive toward our local doe population... pulled lower cam..a party at 8 + a.m.this morning in front of wooden blind plus a big buck with stickers  at night.

Saw some deer tonight, just not the ones I wanted to see. I had 4 does and four fawns come in and feed under an apple tree 50 yards in front of my stand. Following them was a half rack three point that I also saw this morning. No big guys.

Well...I had the best day in stand today I can remember. 15 deer including 5 bucks one being a beautiful shooter 8. I can't remember ever seeing that many deer in one day. Made a rookie crossbow mistake on a big doe out of a group of 5. Squeezed the trigger and whack bang...yup..crossbow limbs expanded right into the tree my stand is throwing my shot way off and bolt stuck right in a tree about 10 ft in front of me..lighted knock glowing away. Won't make that mistake again. Looking through scope not paying attention to clearance. Hope tomorrow is just as good...

I'd take a few shots to make sure it's still shooting true. After a thorough inspection to make sure nothing cracked. Depending on how hard the limb hit. Better to be safe than sorry.

15 min before quitting time. I'm standing watching the bedding area to my left and the swamp at my rear. I hear a bull in a China shop come barreling down the hill directly in front of me. Thought is was those damn squirrels again until he grunted. Drew while he was on the move. As soon as he got on the right side of my stand I gave him a baaah and prayed he would stop. As soon as he stopped, I let the brand new Matthews Z3 rip and shot right down through him. So happy to christen the new bow. Shot my doe first week with my old Martin Jaguar.

I still don't now what he was chasing. I never saw any does. IMG_3860.JPG.88bf332af9c371e112d17e56e59

I have to agree with Biz here. It was a mistake, but you have to be wired tight when shooting a bow of any

I won't let it happen again. I was focused on my view through the scope. I have been bow hunting a few years but this is my first time with the crossbow.  Funny..I thought it would be easier..if I had my bow I would have had a deer down today..

Yea. I've read a lot of horror stories, so when I hunted in ground blind for first time, I checked and sure enough I could be clear through scope but bolt could hit something. Just have to be extra careful with xbows. Good luck!

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
