Doc
I wonder if they are protected by law? If they're not, the solution is to start shooting the damn things. If they are start legal activity to sue the state and the original owners of these critters for any damages.

Dinsdale
I can say conclusively that a Vervet Monkey vs. a 300 RUM leaves nothing but red mist, and with 375H&H vs Chacma Baboon is not very good for the bo bo's on the receiving end. Love to try my hand at another primate, and hell I'll even pay them for a chance at a good male with some canines.

Gencountyzeek
While in the keys this year we got to see their green iguana problem. Also they are not protected however under florida law they can not be hunted, only trapped and killed humanely under the law... I'm assuming same goes for the monkeys. I guess a shot from a 12ga isn't humane enough.

If you do a little looking into it, there are hundreds of them in that area, and thousands in South Carolina. They were put in the area of Florida back in the 30s to be an attraction of some sort. They escaped and have been spreading ever since. Its beyond me why the state doesnt do away with them. They have issues with Pythons down there already, these things will be another problem if they dont stop them. Youd be surprised at how many invasive species are down there.

At this point I think there are more invasive in Fl than natives. Especially in the everglades and Miami area

Pygmy
What shot size is appropriate for monkeys ? # 2 lead, perhaps , or #4 buck....Probably those nontoxic T shot would work like a charm, and they would not be toxic to the wood storks and buzzards that eat the dead monkeys..
growalot
Quote He is crazy if he thinks the monkeys are not going to harass him and his family! Well I hope they really enjoy air conditioning...imagine having kids and monkeys opening your window screens or even windows at night. second link...scroll to 6th picture. I had my hair nearly yanked out by one in a private type zoo. Some amusement park in Henrietta there was a bowling alley there too as I recall...we would drive in for mid night bowling...anyhow I was bitten by a baby one while bottle feeding it, even babies are strong and have freaking needle teeth. My sisters yippee dippy friends they lived in Honeoye Falls , decided they wanted to raise a monkey over a child...until it got too big to control and tore their house all to hell and back... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhesus_macaque https://www.jungledragon.com/specie/445/rhesus_macaque.html

Steuben Jerry
Just watched the video. I'm thinking that would be fun with a rimfire and a couple of boxes of maxi-mags..
grampy
The old 10-22 with soft points, would work just fine for monkey plinkin I'd think. Get lots of monkeys for less than $10. A small Sig in 9mm would be perfect for close up monkey action!

dbHunterNY
223 is cheap. it's florida. a couple nice AR-15 with fragmenting 223 loads should do. full 30 rd clips. heck a drum mag would be even better. how that's not humane is beyond me. whatever gets away too far back in can turn into python bait. seriously it's crazy how back in early years of this country we could hunt something and wipe it out almost to extinction. yet today we've got all these problem species and hunting just simply won't work. either snowflake hunters or snowflakes that won't allow the hunt. just can't win.
