I've shot a few growing up. Couldn't tell the difference for a few years! And they still taste good one someone shoots one from Time to time! I try not to anymore. But my son is legal to hunt next year! I'm sure he will take a few

That is why you have to learn target ID. Before you shoot, know what is in front of you. And what is behind your target. I saw a deer coming out of the woods Saturday, 5 mins after i grunted out a doe in heat call. I was like, ok, here comes a doe. A very, very, scared doe. Good enough, maybe she will bring in a buck. It was about 125 yards out in front of me on a hill i was facing.

I let it come all the way down the hill, and i instinctively looked at head out of habit and lo and behold, it was not a doe at all, but one of the spike bucks i have seen on cam all offseason. Decision was since it was only 3 hours into season, let it pass. Maybe it would grow into a nice 4 pointer for next year. Looking at it through brush, however, my eyes wanted to see headgear as branches made it look like it had a rack.

Day goes by and i am in different spot with my bosses son. He is about 500 yards behind me in tree stand. About 415 i hear a shot behind me, i radio him and yes, he claims he shot a large 4 pointer.  Congratulations.

830 he is asking me to help track. 3 hours later and after doging bobcats and coyotes, it all came full circle. Gut shot spike buck in field. Poor target id coupled with buck fever.

Jeez who shoots fawns?

Well we all have to grow along with the sport and 99.9% of the hunters will mature enough to let the babies walk. Now this poster and it seems his friends I guess are in the other %. Or by reading many of the posts by said poster one would be much better off not believing very many of the words written. Sad Really

Looks like it was a productive day for the hunters today.  A special congratulations to Grampy and Steuben Jerry's daughter, well damn done!!

PS......Age and dressed weight please. :)

Currently hanging, but hasn't been on the scale. Will weigh tomorrow and update. However, I could get a tape measure on him quickly for a fast PA girth conversion..

Thanks so much everyone. I'm a very happy hunter tonight.

Posted story in the harvest thread.

My grandson is here. We are heading out in the morning. Him getting one would mean 10X more to me than my own. If not for school today, he would have been with me. Tomorrow is his day!

Well, just got done hanging up my first deer ever with a bow. Will post the full story in the harvest thread, but ive been bow hunting since I was 13. A 12 year drought, and even though he’s not as big as what was posted by others today, I’ll never forget it, and I still got the fever. 50dd04ab1160ce0ed79d9f0a9e3b4e94.jpga60e760933b68c445095e3721f50eae5.jpg

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo

Hello to all my fellow bow hunters! Here's a question for you, if you had the chance to hunt and win $50,000, would you do it? Well your chance has come! It's the Bone Collector North American Whitetail Championship! The biggest and most exciting deer hunting tournament that's ever hit the whitetail woods! Here's how it works, throughout the USA and Canada, there's 14 different regions, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey would be considered as Region 1, the bow hunter that harvests the largest P&Y scoring buck in he or she's region will qualify for a championship hunt in the land of Giants, (KANSAS) at Wicked Outfitters for a chance to win $50,000!!  You may ask, is there an entry fee? Yes, there is a $300 entry fee, but here's the cool part, when you sign up, the crew at the championship will send you a gear package in the mail with over $400 worth of hunting gear! You will also have your name put in for hunt give away drawings and product give a ways! How cool is that!? You might be thinking to yourself, I don't have a big enough buck to hunt that i can win anything with. NOT the case, if you harvest a buck and enter it into the tournament, you will be put in for another drawing for the Kansas HUNT! How do you sign up? Simply go to www.nawtc.com fill out the entry form that's required for you to sign up, and your ready to go! When your filling out the entry form, you will see where it says referral, type in our email address crossovertheriveroutdoors@gmail.com to let the guys at the championship know that your signing up through us! Watch the video below about the Bone Collector North American Whitetail Championship and enter today!  Last year I was blessed to be the region 1 winner of this great tournament, and i'm currently getting ready to head for Kansas for the championship hunt! I couldn't believe that God gave this opportunity to me! Check out the hunt that one me the region and if you want to see how the championship hunt unfolds for me, follow me on Instagram, Facebook @ Cross Over the River Outdoors! Please also Subscribe to my YouTube channel, also Cross Over the River Outdoors! Good luck to every one this fall! and as always God Bless!

Maybe im jumpin the gun a bit quick but.....
As the 2019 deer season is coming fast and the live from the woods thread is going to light up like a christmas tree(better train this kid at work fast so i can follow up on all the deer porn)...The quickly approaching season has got new topics popping up and me getting antsy sooo......
Is there anyone with a new approach to this years season different from the past?
      Different preparations for the season,etc.
Accomplishment's/goals you are shooting for in the 2019 season?
      Shorter/longer sits etc.

      A few of mine..
1.Prep by shooting as much as possible
2.Spend as much time as i can in my "happy place"(always been my peaceful place)
3.Get my first mount done so i can hang it on the wall at the first house(bare spot!)
4.Get neccessary equipment for processing my own deer in the garage(needs a good cleanin before opening day!!)
5.See the smile on Jay's(turkeyfeathers) face with his first bow harvest!!!!
6.Be blessed and thankful to be able to spend time in the great outdoors.cherish every moment of the woods coming alive at day break(g/f doesnt understand it!!!)<<but im ok with that
This year has flew by and season will be here before we know it.This post is a bit early but im pumped and ready for some woods time!!!!
