Who Could You Support From the Other Party

Recommended Posts

So, hypothetical question. I've been thinking about, if I had to choose someone to get behind for a Republican President, with myself being a registered Democrat, which current political figure would it be? This also got me thinking about which Democrat would Republican's be okay with. Now, I don't mean that you would be putting up yard signs for them, or even voting for them, but which current member of the "other" party would you be okay with?

For me, I would would say Phil Scott, Republican Governor of Vermont. I don't agree with all of his positions, but he seems to come at everything with an open mind and a logical decision making process. I know that Vermont is a small state, but he has done a good job of working across the aisle. Now, I'm not an expert, and there are a lot of things I may be missing in this, but from what I have heard, I would be okay with him or a leader like him.

Who would it be for you? I don't mean for this to turn into a "I could never support a Democrat/Republican" or "I just hate (insert name here)". I'm really just curious about what ties we all might have across party lines. Lord knows we all do enough bickering and complaining, it would be nice to think about what we might have in common.

I think that a dead John F Kennedy would do a better job than any living democrat.

Sorry friend. There is no one I would get behind at the moment. :nono:

I'll bite. Now this being said, I don't pay a whole lot of attention to other Senators or out of State Governors so my familiarity with them isn't a lot. So there may be others more in line to may way of thinking but if there are, I am not aware of any of them.

If I had to pick a Democrat to be our President it would be Senator Machin from West Virginia. I actually used to have a lot of respect for him because, IMO he used to vote with common sense and break from party lines when necessary. That respect has waned somewhat the last few years when I believe he has caved to Nance Pelosi and pressure from the Democratic party. But I think we could do worse than him and if he were president I would hope he would do what is right as opposed to following the way left leaning tendencies his party has become in the last 10-15 years.

Had he run against Romney, I would have had to seriously think about who I voted for assuming I liked what he said, and he agenda when he was running.

Since I live around the corner, when do you want to grab that beer so I can turn you red.....lol

Anytime :) I'm planning on going to the Sportsman Auction at Talk of the Town in Ballston Spa on Thursday. I might not be able to afford to buy anything, but it's a lot of fun to guess what stuff will go for. There's a few decent guns there this month.

And I'll never go red, if anything out of pure stubbornness :)

I went for the first time last month. They get a variety of stuff in, I picked up a nice little Case stockman and a Remington folder on the cheap. Gave the Remington to my buddy who went with me, and doubled my money on eBay with the Case :)

My band is also playing at Vapor at the Saratoga Casino on Saturday, feel free to stop buy. I'll even bring you "band beer" from the green room :)

There aren't many moderate Dems out there anymore.......

I really wish the household names that the Dem put out there were palatable. Unfortunately besides the major media outlets, I do not follow much so it would take too much research for me to find someone. I was totally into watching the Kavanagh hearing but don’t even recall any of them being sensible.

I like to look at any political candidate from a perspective of what negative things they would do.

People always fall for the BS they spew about what they will do for us.  We need to start looking more at what they will do TO us.

Are they for higher taxes, massive taxation, less freedom, gun control, more abortion, more government control and more spending?

When weighing advantages and disadvantages, it's easy to see who one should support.

No Democrat today offers more advantages than disadvantages IMHO.

Hum a Democrat? Well then my friend Jay from out  West, lawyer ,  hunter , somewhat of a gun guy , loves craft beer and chasing women .

If he was President I’m sure he’d hook me up ! Make me an ambassador, to a warm friendly country , with a smoking hot staff  or something .

So top pay for an ambassador is just under 200k , unless it a no show gig, ill need some kickbacks or a big book deal too .

The only living Democrat who I could support is Jimmy Carter (because he is a Christian and a hunter).   A couple of dead ones I would have supported were Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman.   All the rest did or are doing this country more harm than good.    I am very thankful that they only hold 1/6 of the power in Washington and hopefully they will loose their hold on that in the next election.

I hate to admit it but I am a register democrat and have been one for quite some time. I will probably remain one because it gives me the right to vote on a candidate in the primaries.

As far as being loyal to a "party" and voting for the party regardless of their qualifications and interests isn't for me. When I vote I vote for the person that I think has our best interest in mind and will do the best job for the country.

I don't think we should even have a "party" system. Anyone should be able to run for president, and be elected on their merits and abilities to look out for the country not their political affiliation.

I have not seen a Democrat I would support in quite some time. I don't like a lot of what Trump does and the way he acts but I voted for him and will do so again because I believe he is looking out for our interests. I also believe he is a true patriot.

This latest group of Democrats all seem to lean towards their own special interest groups and I have not heard one of them talking about how to bring the country together. Regardless of what they say they are not looking out for the country as a whole.

I'm a registered Democrat (only because we didn't want our property taxes to go up - and yes it does happen ) but voted Trump last time and will this time .  If I have to vote Democrat I will cast my vote for the only Veteran available !

I admit, I am truly relieved. I thought ALL democrats had totally lost their minds and began hating their country, or at least wanting to ruin/destroy it. Thank you @GreeneHunter and @Steve D for restoring my faith in common sense across the aisle. You both have proven me wrong in thinking that there was absolutely none left.

I say, let the best man win....and he will....again!

Absolutely none of them! Joe Manchin was once a possibility but he has shown almost all the time to vote against the constituents that he represents, Gutless!

There was a time that I voted for democrats.

That time is long gone.

I’m only voting my guns. That is my litmus test.

Plus democrats proudly became commies.

And I’m never voting for a commie.
