...and ALL of this will require DEC resources ($$$).  Are you willing to pay more for your license(s)?  Do you trust the Governor to increase license fees only enough to cover this or excessively to be another revenue stream for the states general coffer?  History has shown it will be the latter!  Be careful what you wish for in NY because the Governor is not interested in hunting and views everything as an opportunity to get more of your money.

From what many here spend on ,land, leases, atvs ,  clothes  , cameras , on top of guns , glass and bows ,I’d figure most would be ok with $500 licenses if that’s what’s needed to, properly fund the DEC .

The real problem is that too many hunters have too narrow of a focus, thinking it is all about the harvest of big antlered bucks.  That "trophy" mindset does not sit well with the non-hunting majority.

I agree.  The state shouldn't be in the business to cater to trophy hunters.  The purpose of deer hunting is to control the deer population first and foremost.  Those who think that NY will go to a week long gun season from a three week long season that has been in effect for decades are dreaming.  Will never happen and rightfully so.  Why the hell should gun hunters have only 7 short days to hunt deer?   From what I see plenty of people end up taking big bucks in this state even with the "long" gun season so why change things?  Same goes with AR's and check stations.  A complete waste of time and money that wouldn't better the hunting in NY in the least

We need a Pittman-Robertson like excise tax on gear used by hikers and birdwatchers or a general permit requirement for accessing state public lands. Hunters are effectively funding the management and care of land and wildlife enjoyed by many. It’s time other recreational outdoors people contributed to the pot

I nys wants big bucks the solution is simple. Remove the game department from the dec and make a constitutionl amendment for right to hunt and fish to be managed by a game department.

This eliminates all the political and hunter appeasement from game management and leaves it to biologists.

Be careful of what you ask for IMO. Giving them more space at the table probably doesn't end well for hunters IMO.

I'm perfectly fine with that totally unfair financial support. It's one of the last legs of the table still standing.

Shows what you don’t really know. So tell me. How do you think they can set a season and a limit with not a clue as to how many were takin? It worked years ago when there was great deer hunting and will work again. All months worth of hunting does is allow others to fill others tags. If you need weeks to kill a deer you probably need another hobby.

All this went down years ago with great success. Tags were pre stamped and just needed a drop into a box.  Then maybe they could make an Educated guess about the real numbers of deer where and when. Right now it’s all an uneducated guess. At best.

I think you will see it come out fast. They already know what their decisions are. Public comment means nothing.

Thats kinda what I was thinking.  It seems like the last plan being exactly 10 years ago from 2021 and getting public comment done by end of this year, then have to print all the new regs and make the public aware they need 6 months to do all that. So a decison would come soon.

The problem is licenses do not fund the DEC.  In NYS there is a general coffer where all money goes.  No money is earmarked for specific places or uses.  Recall NYS was going to close the pheasant farms and stocking because there was no money in the state budget to cover the costs.  The NYS small game hunters proposed a pheasant stamp with fee and all that money to go to the pheasant program.  The governor refused that and "got" the money somewhere else.  The governor would be thrilled to raise hunting licenses to $500 annually but the money will never be earmarked for DEC or hunting.  It would most likely get spent on his pet projects.

Didn't they (meaning governor) find a way to tap into those funds - Like the lifetime licenses. I remember them somehow tapping into them and using the money for other than hunting or wildlife causes.

There is nothing to tap into.  NYS does not have dedicated funds.  DEC license money is not earmarked for DEC.  If DEC has surplus money, it does not have to go to DEC.  All NYS taxes, fees, licences, etc money goes into the state general coffer and the Governor decides what and how much to fund with the budget.

Why wouldnt it go to session by April?  Esp as a whole package.  If they wait til july they wont be able to get it done til 2022.

Is not a simple.proposal.or regulation , they have to change the law.. ( we have politicains making laws on things they know nothing about) this is exactly what crossbow coalition has been tryjng to do.  Even with this support from dec it may not happen as legislature need a bill created and voted on after committee put it to floor for vote. ( it hasnt made it out of committee in 3 years now)

The money goes to dec ,but a clean up of a brown field or dredging of hudson river of mercury  is " good for the enviroment and there for robert/ pittman funds are used in a loophole.  The dec is an environmental group that also monitors game. Untill we have a right to hunt and fish and a seperate game departmant this will continue with no checks. That is the problem and why when the sportsman blame dec  for inactivity.. there more pressing issue are cleaning up coal burnijg boilers in nyc.

I dont see this as as big a hurdle as that.  Yes its a law change but it has already been drafted before.  If it is put into this plan they will just attach to to something else and put into session.  It would go thru committee if its part of this plan.  No reason it takes 6 + months.  Plus if this has already been out and setup for public comment its already in the works. Its not the same as introducing this seperate, its now part of the state management plan.

The dec backed every bill and so did sportsman alliance. It still never made it out of committee, letter were written and sent in ,lobbiest did their part , still never made it out of committee.  Will have to be redrafted and send back to committee,  then discussed and then this will be shown to want it..  but may still not make it out of committee,  as they are politicians not biologists/ game managers

And if they add a tag for Xbow and a charge$$ to go with it the Xbow inclusion will fly right thru. The rest of them will be pretty simple to push along.

they discuss it?  lol.  It will be attached to something that has nothing to do with hunting.  It will pass as long as one of the committee members has the ok to attach it to something from the party lead or committee lead.  Which it will be put in as a new management plan.  Only reason it didnt make it out of committee is because not a single person cared if this passed or not so no one pushed it.  If it is part of the state plan it flies by.
