Because you know what? I sit in my office and I get into a debate. Then I'll go to a meeting, try to finish some stuff so I can leave on time, do some stuff at home and then by the time I check back on the forum, 5 pages worth of posts have already been added. At that point, I think it isn't even worth it to skim through 5 pages of rants to see what the responses are. This is with me already having some threads filtered. These moderators have to go through all the posts - it's like a full time job, and they do this for free. So thank you for keeping this site up and running and as civil as it possibly can.7 points

A sure fire way to defeat your enemy........make him your friend. I would send him a Christmas card and write it in, "I'm sorry for the misunderstanding this past deer season and hope we can be good neighbors again. Please except my best wishes for a Merry Christmas to you and your family.",and sign your name. If that does not fix things there is little hope, and at least you were the bigger person. I have been thinking.......its not the news media, the guns, the pscyhotropic meds, the divorce rate, or even a new phenomenon in our society. Both males and females take these medications but mostly males commit the crimes. School massacres have been happening since 1700's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shootings_in_the_United_States And when they dont have guns, they use bombs (which are deadlier) or knives. If you review the long list of school killings and the deadliest really belongs to Bath, MI http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath_School_disaster (most deadliest bombing definitely with intent 38 elementary students died, 7 adults and 58 injured). These are just School Shootings (not included are the bombings or knife attacks) and only schools not malls, churches, McDonalds, etc: 1700 - First documented School shooting 1800 - 1900 = 10 school shootings 1900 - 1930 = 21 school shootings 1940 - 1950 = 12 school shootings 1950 - 1960 = 19 school shootings 1960 - 1970 = 12 school shootings 1970 - 1980 = 6 school shootings 1980 - 1990 = 18 school shootings 1990 - 2000 = 17 school shootings 2000 - 2010 = 13 school shootings 2010 - 2020 = 6 school shootings to date See anything out of the ordinary or unusual? Seems we are averaging every decade the approximate same except in 1970 to 1980. So what was better then? I grew up exactly in this decade (1971 to 1989) and I do not believe it was any different except that all the troubled kids in my school who were bullied, rejected and reprimanded smoked alot of pot or weed. In the bathrooms, behind bleachers, it was everywhere...thanks to the 60's ...or was it the era all kids and people pushed PEACE and our nation focused on war and not home. Not sure but we have not found the answer and it will not be as simple as one thing. But our documented studies show they all have something in common: A) Revenge for self or family member being reprimanded or abused in some fashion Rejection (romantic or not) C) Bullied The answer does not end in weapon control - when an individual has a motive it will be carried out with whatever means possible and that means any weapon they can devise or find - but in human behavior and cognitive thought processes. Seems we are finding ways to detect abnormal patterns - thus the prescribing of medication - but the medication is not the reason these individuals one day wake up and carry out these actions. There is no way to tell if the meds are even working on them...and in the last 200 years these meds were not even around. I think the answer lies in our ability to discover how to one prevent A, B or C and then detect A, B, or C when it does happen and figure out how to correct the human response to either. Not an easy task since we are very complex and one can not see the inside of a humans cognitive functioning, and one of concern if we claim we can and start prosecuting those who we deem as mentally ill in error (refer to the witch trials for this one). We are not even including the mall shootings, the resturants (i.e. McDonalds), movie theaters or all the others. These are just schools and shootings and missing the bombings and other attacks. Heck I would be here ALL day if I added all the attacks on humans by humans. That is where the focus should be.......what makes a human attack another human(s). The answer may not ever be found...so in the meantime I guess we should focus on PREVENTION of self (arm and education), smoking more POT while promoting more PEACE. PPP4 points

The whole point of this is, it is not guns,or any other device that can be used to kill (sticks and stones kill as well) it is the uncontrollable human mind that is the problem...... so all that is left is for an individual to learn to defend ones self/other thru legal means... as any kind of regulation seeks to control devices which are not the problem inanimate objects can't kill they need a person/person behind them wielding them if you would... stop blaming the object place the blame on the individual. Learn to protect yourself/others. Not pushing for arming every teacher with a gun. But why not mace/pepper spray/ tazers, stun guns. Properly trained an individual could not walk room to room shooting with out some resistance. Putting your head in a hole and closing your eyes wishing for a peaceful world is like asking a thirsty dog not to drink water from its bowl....3 points

IN HEAVEN Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38 When 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate. Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air. They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there. They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say. They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day. "Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse. "This is heaven" declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house." When what to their wondering eyes did appear, but Jesus, their Savior, The children gathered near. He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same. Then He opened His arms and He called them by name. And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring Those children all flew into the arms of their King. And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, One small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face. And as if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad". Then He looked down on earth, the world far below, He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow and woe. Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My Power and Presence re-enter this land! May this country be delivered from the hands of fools. I'm taking back My nation. I'm taking back My schools!" Then He and the children stood up without a sound. "Come now My children, let Me show you around." Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran. All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can. And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight, "In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT!" written by Cameo Smith, Mt. Wolf , PA3 points

He was on the news and said that he did pull his firearm, drew aim and the shooter saw him, but he lowered his weapon because there were people running behind the shooter to take cover and he was afraid he was going to hit some innocent. The shooter then turned the gun on himself. I guess just the mere sight of another civilian with a firearm that can meet lethal force with lethal force is enough to stop it in this case.2 points

Virgil, what if a teacher had pepper spray, mace, a tazer, or stungun.. i can and will say for certain this would of not gone as far as it did. It is not about regulating weapons, fact is he used 2 hand guns in the shooting the " assault rifle" wasn't used. Why not train our teachers or at least principals/vice principals, maintance personal with in the schools in non-lethal or even lethal means. A gun man walks into one room, shots are fired, teacher across hall/ next room removes pepper spray/mace (what ever you want to defend your students with.) When gun man enters next room is sprayed, shot, tazer by next adult. Rest of falculty that heard shot hold down assailant till police/responce team arrives. You can ban large capacity magazines, people will just carry more low capacity ones. Even revolvers have quick loaders or replacement cylinders. Regulating an inanimate object does nothing to control an unstable human mind. Defence thru legal means is the only way. If you can't see that you must live in an occult camp which will one day be wiped out by an unstable individual as well.2 points

And your argument ignores the fact that when you remove one tool , another one steps up to take its place No, I have definitely noticed how you guys stick together. Just kidding.2 points

the only argument i would make against registering is for fear that one day they decided to take them all away. Otherwise, if you're a responsible gun owner you should have nothing to hide2 points

Well said????? Are you serious??? 'the greater tragedy' than the murder of 20 innocent children would be a reduction in gun rights???? Why, because gun ownership is a 'god given right'??? Are you serious? What about the right to LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness??? If this letter were sent and made public, it would further outrage the public. This is exactly the type of thinking that causes the general public to think that all gun owners are whackjobs.2 points

I came here from Ireland, having lived in Ireland, The UK , and Spain. So I have first hand experience living in nations that don't allow public gun ownership. I can say that the criminals still have guns, there are still shootings, there have still been cases of mass murder (even in elementary schools) , there are also lots of bombings which kill MANY innocent civilians. So where did the gun bans get the people other than under the thumb of the criminals and the government.2 points

i use a bucket loader but any decent a gambrel and rope hoist with pulleys will work. also need a good sharp knife. i used a lanski pocket knife that's served me well. it's used from field to freezer. also a i use a smith's carbide and ceramic sharpener with "v"s you pull the blade through. regular surgical gloves are good to keep your hands clean and stuff out from under your nails. also you will knick your fingers at some point.... so a Rapala fillet glove or something similar is a good idea for hand not holding the knife. meat tubs or pans are handy but in a pinch cheap foil disposable pans also work to separate ground stuff and different cuts. also you'll need a good electric grinder. i use a commercial Hobart grinder that'll grind a rifle down, but cabelas commerical series grinders are affordable and work great 3/4 horse is all you need. http://www.cabelas.c...80;cat104364180 it's good to have a larger port size 7mm plate to grind once and then a small one 4.5mm to ground through a second time. sharpie black marker to date and label stuff. i use 3lb weston ground meat bags for ground venison. they've got markings in 1lb increments on them. also for everything else a good vaccuum sealer/food saver is a must!!! i used to package in commerical plastic wrap and freezer paper but not anymore. nothing gets freezer burn when i've vaccuum sealed. .....cutting board and some other obvious stuff too1 point

I don't think new gun purchasers all need to have mental evaluations. Not like people can't be sane one day and then go nuts down the road somewhere. What SHOULD happen is that anyone already evaluated by doctors to have some mental issues that could be deemed hazardous should be put on a list that would be hooked up with NICS checks. If these people come in to buy a gun, they would not pass the NICS check. Real simple actually. Nothing is foolproof of course, but to do NOTHING will not work.1 point

Heres the complete boiled down definition, minus the cherry picking... A weapon of mass destruction (WMD) is a weapon that can kill and bring significant harm to a large number of humans (and other life forms) and/or cause great damage to man-made structures (e.g. buildings), natural structures (e.g. mountains), or the biosphere in general. The scope and application of the term has evolved and been disputed, often signifying more politically than technically. Coined in reference to aerial bombing with chemical explosives, it has come to distinguish large-scale weaponry of other technologies, such as chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear. This differentiates the term from more technical ones such as chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons (CBRN).1 point

I think it was a stand up thing to do. Who know's what there motivation was? There are some business's out there that are willing to do what they believe is right in the face of adversity. Maybe ownership or a decision making executive said this is the right thing to do. It shows that we care, that we are sensitive and we are willing to do this out of respect for a community that is mourning and a country that is attempting to come to grips with this most recent tragedy. I believe this will come back to them very positively. It will be seen as respectful.1 point

"How can we get illegal handguns off the street?" We can't and never will. The key word in that question is "illegal" handguns. If the question was how to get legal HG off the street, then yes that would be possible.1 point

Easy. A federal gun card for everyone. NO one be it in a private transaction, or thru a dealer can purchase a gun without one. To get this gun card, one must go thru a background check and take a gun safety course, with some actual training on a range. I have said it before. The gun manufacturers don't sell their guns directly to criminals. Criminals obviously get them in one way or another from original LEGAL purchasers. Yeah, some are gotten thru stealing, but that is not always the case. Without some sort of regulations on private sales, the sky is the limit to what criminals can buy without any questions asked. NO, this will not stop all crime, and no one here ever said it would, but I'll be damned if it wouldn't be a better system than we currently have. We have hundreds and thousands of gun laws in this country, most of them are worth $#!+, when what's illegal in one state is perfectly legal in another. Without some uniformity we can't get anywhere. So here you go Doc and everyone. Now lets hear how you don't think this would help?1 point

An old man in Miami calls up his son in New York and says, "Listen, your mother and I are getting divorced. Forty-five years of misery is enough." "Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams. “We can't stand the sight of each other any longer,” he says. "I'm sick of her face, and I'm sick of talking about this, so call your sister in Chicago and tell her," and he hangs up. Now, the son is worried. So he calls up his sister. She says, "Like hell they’re getting divorced!" and calls her father immediately. "You’re not getting divorced! Don't do another thing, the two of us are flying home tomorrow to talk about this. Until then, don't call a lawyer, don't file a paper, DO YOU HEAR ME?” and she hangs up. The old man turns to his wife and says "Okay, they’re coming for Christmas and paying their own airfares."1 point

Normally I try to avoid stuff like this but this time I just can't. Instead of complaining your husband "only got ONE deer this year", maybe you should congratulate him on the accomplishment. Do you have any idea how many people hunt every year and never shoot a deer, not even "ONE"? Believe it or not some people actually choose to not pull the trigger and still enjoy their time afield. Something is missing in the world today. Everybody is worried that someone getting a bigger piece of pie than them, or in this case more deer. Buying a hunting license is to provide an opportunity to legally hunt for a deer, to enjoy time in the woods for that purpose, getting away from it all, a chance to think free of all the distractions, and lots of other things that are very personal to each hunter, it's not a guarantee that you will get a deer. A deer tag is not a coupon redeemable at your nearest woodlot that entitles you to a deer. Like so may other things these days, hunting seems to have lost it's meaning. It is a symptom of the age in which we live. Rather than measure ourselves constantly with someone else's yard stick and be envious, can't we take stock of what we do have and be thankful. We need to remember maybe someone out there does have more than we do, but there are also those who have much less. Ok, time for me to move on. Oh..tell your husband I said congratulations on his his getting a deer. And there is still time to fill that buck tag, and lots of bucks still out there. Best of luck! Peace1 point
