  1. This is what happens when your wife leaves 2 kids and 1 very big kid alone for a week while she visits family out of the country. Sweetest little shepherd pup though. Seems much smarter than my bullmastiff was at 12 weeks too. Maybe my wife won't notice. Lol

  2. Since the OP said two RIFLE calibers, I'd have to say .22 LR and 30-06. If he said two CHAMBERINGS I would say 12 gauge and 30-06. If limited to ONE chambering for everyhting in the world, it would be 12 gauge.

  4. The Republican party in NYS is broken. They can't find their a$$ with both hands. I have lived downstate NY my entire life. Growing up I met many of the big-wigs in the party (through my mom who was involved on a local level). People like Al D'Amato when he was "up and coming." These folks were the picture of a "good 'ole boys" network. The half of them that didn't get indicted went on to run Nassau County for years. They couldn't lose an election... until they brought Nassau to the brink of bankruptcy though mismanagement and patronage. But they never learned their lesson. They still try to play the "good 'ole boys" game. They have no clue and no desire to make anything work right, no less get a governor elected. They sit around with their thumbs up their butts and only care that their half-wit brother Harry retains his job as Park Commissioner or their mistress still has that six-figure job in the County Office. Granted, the Dems do the same thing. It is just their turn to be in charge down here. It has nothing to do with beliefs, politics or convictions - they all vote the same way. I know there are a few different types in some upstate areas, and that is good. But downstate, there are no "republicans" in the real sense. We really need a new party that actually represents the voters and not just their "buddies" and the patronage jobs they provide. It is disgusting that the RNC isn't giving Astorino more support. He does have a chance. I believe that in NYS at the least, the RNC is bought and sold. In their minds, they are happy to have Cuomo stay in power to keep the status quo in their own corrupt fiefdoms.

  5. Unfortunately, I will be at work. Not much of a attention or celebrating type of guy. For my "day", I took my son to the zoo yesterday for the first time. I got my happiness vicariously through him. He got so excited when he saw some of the animals. My wife kept asking me what I wanted (materialistic wise) and I told her I have everything I want/need. In March, I'm heading down to San Antonio for a wedding so I going to book a feral hog/javelina hunt while I'm out there. My wife said she'll pay for it as my gift.

  6. You can't always believe Forecasts .............. The Indian Chief thought that it was going to be a bad winter so he sent all the braves out to collect wood. As he watched them return laden with timber from the forest he suddenly felt that he ought to check his forecast so he phoned the local met office. "Tell me, is it going to be a bad winter?" "Yes" said the forecaster " it will be a bad one" So the Chief told the braves that they didn't have enough wood and sent them back into the forest again. They returned with more wood but once again the Chief had doubts and he called the forecaster to confirm. "It is going to be a really severe winter" replied the forecaster. The Chief looked at the wood store, decided that more was required and the braves were dispatched back in to forest. The Chief called the forecaster. "Are you sure it's going to be a really severe winter" "Look" said the forecaster "its definitely going to be the worst winter on record - the Indians are gathering wood like crazy!""

  7. Well I broke the news and my wife was a trooper about it, as she is with most of my antics. The pup is 90% housebroken already. Only 1 accident in 3 days and when she has to go, she will whine at the back door. I think we got a winner for sure. She likes the carpet in the truck WNYBH! She also prefers it clean without blood stains. She told me so.

  8. Some people who dump ice water on themselves don't even donate. A lot of them don't even know what ALS really is. But if it wasn't for this phenomenon catching fire and becoming viral, they would never be able to raise the amount of money that they raised. Leonardo DiCaprio just pledge $7 million dollars to ocean conservation. But because he never made a viral video out of it, most people didn't even know he donated money and didn't join in and donate to ocean conservation themselves. So while there are narcissistic who never read up on ALS, never donated money, but simply pour ice water on themselves for their own self-promotion. What they do do is keep the "fire" burning. Lastly, as with most medical research charities, on their financial statement, only a tiny amount of the money actually goes to "research". This is due to what most people consider research. My wife works at a hospital for a research for memory disorders. Several doctors are working on this research along with doctor's assistants, nurses, IT staff and database administrators who compile the research data, lease for the lab space, the medical equipment that's rented/purchased that are needed to analyze the brain, etc. All of these things are listed as "staff and administrative costs" rather than as "research" but they are essential to the research. If you see a research charity where 100% of the money is going to "research" then you should ask yourself "who the heck is conducting the research because they're not paying anyone to do it?"

  9. I am sorry, and I don't mean to offend anyone that has or will participate in the ice challenge. I am getting kind of sick of getting nominated on Face Book. I am just not amused with it I guess. To each their own, but I want my ice clean and rattling around in my glass at the end of a long hot day of work. Maybe I'm weird, but one thing I am not is a trend follower. Every time I see one of these videos, all I can think is "flock, little sheep, flock". This challenge lacks individualism. Though I have read that some people are taking it to the extreme with dump trucks and stuff. So I know there are people thinking the same as I, they are just choosing to look for a way to make it more original and I am not so props to you. So there is hope I suppose.

  10. A college buddy of mine used to make up lost dog signs with pictures of a fox and a hilarious description, which included not house broken, likes to nibble on fingers etc... He also made one that said lost cat with a picture of an opossum it said hisses when happy, plays dead etc... He left the phone number to his frat house, where people left messages trying to tell him that his pet was a wild animal and that he should not try to handle those animals!

  14. Well...I didn't actually see them. My das is up at camp and called me this morning at 10:00 to tell me there were two real nice 8's behind the house. That got me pumped for this upcoming deer season!! First bucks we've seen this year and hopefully not the last ones.

  15. I decided to make a wing bone call from the turkey I shot this spring. It was a fun project and I enjoyed doing it. I got some tips from a few members here as well as you tube. I used epoxy to hold the 3 pieces together and rod wrapping thread to "dress it up" . Overall, I am happy with how it came out, but I wanted the colors black/ green/ brown to look like camo, the problem was when I put the finishing glue on the green thread it turned it dark and almost makes it look black. I also added some turkey footprints. I look forward to putting it to use

  16. I grew up in Ithaca, but my parents were quite liberal and so I never hunted. I was out west for many years and started hunting there, mostly upland and waterfowl, but some pig and deer as well. Last year I moved back to Ithaca and I'm really enjoying the hunting here. I guess I'm posting this in the bowhunting forum because that's mostly what I enjoy. I even tried getting some ducks and geese with the bow last year (lots of fun, but no success). I've always used traditional bows, but this year I got a compound to see what that's all about. So far... I'm very pleased and I wonder why I didn't switch sooner. I might use my homemade longbow a couple times this year, but only after having some success with the compound. I'm also looking forward to helping take care of the doe population in Tompkins County. I believe the DMFA will be in effect again. With the new 150' setback rules, it opens up some backyard opportunities that weren't there before.

  29. I donate to the charities and organizations i see fit. Yes its good to raise awareness, but id bet most people dont donate, they pour water on themselves and throw it on facebook, nominate more people and thats it. My hats off to those that actually donated, weather they soaked themselves or not.

  30. I did it today and donated 50 bucks to als also. Why not. One of the ladies I nominated had done so already and donated to the als also. So she said she would donate 25 bucks in my name to honor flight. So I told her I would match that also. When I see her this weekend I will give her a check too.

  36. If it's two rifles, one of them would be a TC Encore so I can just buy multiple barrels for it but since the OP stated 2 calibers, I'd also go 12 gauge and 30-06.

  46. I have a spreadsheet that locate all of my stand locations from 1982 to the present as well as hunting results, conditions, dates, times, sightings, etc., etc., it's pretty extensive. The number of stand locations is up to 114. Of course most of them are no longer used or maintained. At the present, I have about 10 groundstands built and maintained. In almost all places, two stands have been built to give options for wind directions.

  47. The reflective twist ties are pretty handy for marking an access point into the woods from a field as well. I like the clothes pin idea VT. Quick, cheap, and simple! Thanks. As a side note: when at some point you get a little disoriented trying to find a stand in the dark (we've all been there), just sit for a bit until it's light enough to get your bearings. Thrashing around in the dark looking for your tree stand is a lot worse than being quiet on the ground for a few extra minutes.
