  1. What is going on in this thread? Have you people lost your minds? I mean take a look at some of the crap you all are posting here. Some of you don't need moderators, you really need babysitters. Get a grip people and try to get out of the flaming mindset and get back to some rough form of civility if you can. You are embarrassing yourselves.

  2. Pretty soon people will be wanting only threads related to their particular weapon of choice or animal of choice. It's never ending for some who will never be satisfied. This site is set up so that you can go directly to the particular subject you are interested in with a click of the mouse... and still there are those that continue to click on a thread they are not interested in and complain that it is somehow disrupting their forum experience. If anything on here upsets you so much that you need to spend time lobbying to change it, rather than go elsewhere... you might want to try a forum that discusses social disorders and the inability to play well with others. If everyone acted like adults, there would be no need for moderators. But, name calling, profanity and complaining seem to be the order of the day for some.

  3. Listen, I deal with our state Legislators every week, have you even ever written one letter? . Prior to delving into the dove initiative, I dealt with politicians who politically, ideologically, arbitrarily and capriciously decide what science they like and do not like. Treat your discontent with politicians like your sexuality, keep it to yourself, nobody really cares. You voice it at the polls , not everywhere. That you are "proud" of hating democrats , liberals, or the other wing, doesn't interest people with half a brain, and does nothing toward any solution, improvement, or compromise... Awareness? The awareness starts with the facts, not with politics. You got it in reverse order. Instead of judging the facts on the politician, judge the politician on the facts.

  5. I disagree, the reason it is "relegated to 2nd class status" is because this is a HUNTING forum.

  7. Yes assuredly you are the victim. I have never seen someone describe a privately owned web site as if it is a country. Do you ever stop to think that you are part of the problem?

  8. I don't get when folks post that they' re done . I used to post a fair amount on The Rolex Forums , some great people there for sure, but I just did not have much in common with many there . I simply stopped posting and took it out of my favorites . I felt no need to tell them I was taking my watch and going home, but that's me .

  9. External ballistic charts are created by using set parameters, such as scope height, bullet BC, muzzle velocity, zero range, humidity, elevation, etc. unless you are using a chronograph and can input the rest of those variables into a calculator, the factory charts are an estimate, at best. 11. I'm not really into dove hunting, but everything you do that's political is what I believe the political section was for. I haven't seen and don't see anyone complaining about hunting related politics. Keep up the good fight.

  12. I sometimes wonder, if these conversations were held in person, would they denigrate into the childish name calling and posturing that seems to take over so many threads. Maybe, maybe not. Perhaps it's easier to sit behind a keypad and just say whatever pops in to your head. Without having to look someone in the eye and see where they may be coming from on any given issue. And perhaps find a common ground? Or agree to disagree? I'm old enough to remember the time before keypads. And I don't remember people being so regularly confrontational speaking face to face, eye to eye. When coming on this "hunting forum" do you ask yourself a question? Do I want to contribute hunting related information or just argue with someone? I think there are some that are much better at arguing than hunting.

  13. I went to a steakhouse last night. I was really in the mood for a Delmonico. Well, Im looking at all the different steaks on the menu when I noticed, on the back page, way at the bottom…..FISH!!! Well of course I had to order it even though I wanted steak. I complained to the manager and asked why I was being forced to eat fish in a steakhouse, and he looked at me like I had two heads! What a jerk!! Crazy huh??

  14. I Believe there are a few people that need to start their own site. In this they can set up rules to maintain the exact type of poster /hunter they think are worthy.Except or decline memberships wanted and feel better. Again this site was set up by one person and as far as I can see he seems to be ok with who is here and site traffic,I do not see nor have I ever seen where he has required assistance in deciding the type of Hunter that participates here.

  15. If it was me and you had a firearm visibly in the vehicle, I'm cuffing you too. I'm taking no chances. I would have removed them once I realized you're cool but initially, I have no idea what your story is about. Those that don't are some brave mofo's. Just a couple of weeks ago, two officers were shot when stop a man for drinking in public and simply asked him for ID. Apparently, scanning his ID would have came up with a bunch of stuff so he decide to shoot the cops and try and make a get-away but then ultimately off'ed himself. These are the possible situations cops face and frankly, if I was a cop, you would call me one of the a-hole cops because I plan on making it home every night.

  16. I guess I go about reading the forums different than others. I don't care about the most recent posts. I just go to the same categories every day, click on them to see if there is anything I am interested in, and if there is, I read them and go onto the next category. I don't care what people ask or talk about because if they have the time, and make the effort to post a question, story, picture, or link, it obviously is something they are interested in. People can bicker back and forth all they want. If they didn't like it, they would just not post a reply. I for one like the politics. I may not participate much, but I enjoy reading other outdoors people's views on all sorts of political laws and scenarios. If it interests me, I take the time to read up a little more to get some facts. Seems like I get closer to the truth here than on any of the media sites on a lot of issues. Sure, some of the links are out there, but some of them are getting to the heart of this country's problems.

  17. They are magical laser beams of death. Only Weatherby branded rifle I have owned. West German 300WBY with claw mount scope and double set trigger. Brake was removable, but I bought it without a thread protector replacement. Really liked the open sights on this gun, I think they were Recknagels of the time period. Might be the only pic I have of it, shame, damn good rifle that paid for a hunt in trade......

  20. Pheasant hunting...........I know there has been plenty a talk on here about the New York State raised pheasants. I've never hunted (that I know of) the state released birds but have killed lots of private preserve raised birds, hunted on those preserves and on private ground. My first cock bird was killed back in the 70's on my friends land, licensed as a preserve for over 50 years now! For many years he would buy a couple hundred birds each season from a local breeder and hunt them over his labs. He would have friends and business clients in for the hunts during the fall. Once deer season started the birds were never bothered, except by the numerous predators. Very very few ever made it to the spring but occasionally they would. I killed one such bird in early October many years ago. It was a beautiful bird with gorgeous, long tail feathers. Here's a picture of the results from another private land hunt. My buddy in Arcade licensed a portion of his land as a preserve for a number of years. We didn't release many birds over the years here but did enjoy some great shoots when we did...........I think this would have been the early 90's. Good times........

  21. Now I made sure to tuck this away in the political thread as to lessen the offense some people will feel. I can start by saying the questions and ensuing comments I am about to pose should not surprise any rational people that can view the world and history with out blinders on. This whole political thread on a hunting site is such a prime example of what has gone and continues to go wrong in this world. Forget the country, humans in general are a sad lot indeed. I say this because we just never ever learn, we just repeat and recycle and repeat. Reminds me of a Cat Stevens song. Hunters wanting to preserve their rights and in so many other aspects of life want to control and change the rights of others This isn't new, your not an apparition. You are your parents and grandparents and their parents. you are : The ones that hound the Greaser, long haired Hippy, the hobo or homeless(just showing some history here). The guy whose pants hang down his thighs and the kid wearing a gun tee shirt. You are the person that now has to check his kid before going to school so he isn't expelled for a plastic toy soldier, the one teaching them never to pull that toy gun finger ...so he has the right to an education. The guy that has to be handcuffed for a broken tail light because he is a hunter. It is people that can not connect the dots that cause these things. It is the guy that whines and cries that the neighbors grass is too long or weedy , that it effects his property value!...instead of saying his may look like crap but I'll make sure mine doesn't. I have no intention of selling now so let the value and taxes stay down. No you go out and put together a housing association... How can we ever expect anything to get better when we can't control the need to control others. When their human trait to belittle , bash, look down on anything we find out of our little circle of normal to be to much to walk away from. Every single generation says " It's the sign of the times" I laugh ...It's basically the same "time", as it were, just changing signs.

  22. When I first started hunting small game in the early 1960s, the soil bank was still in effect, and there were still enough wild pheasants here in southern Steuben County so that a hunter who did his homework could shoot a limit now and then. Hunting was MUCH better just a few miles north around the Finger Lakes.. By the late 60s, in order to find GOOD pheasant hunting, you had to go further north, but there was some pretty damn good hunting to be had. I hunted opening day 1968, and 1969 with some friends around Gasport. One of those opening days ( I can't remember which) I counted 42 Cockbirds flushing...We sure did not kill them all, and some were no doubt re-flushes, but I did see rooster pheasants getting into the air 42 times in one day. I know I had no problem killing my limit both days with my 28 gauge side/side that my parents had given me for my high school graduation present. By the time I got out of the service, in the early 70s, there was still pretty good hunting from the thruway north. We had good hunting north of Batavia around Elba, although it was nowhere near as good as we had around Gasport 10 years prior. Around the end of the 70s, the pheasant population plummeted... The only really GOOD pheasant hunting I have had since then was a 3 year period when I hunted around Bellevue Iowa...That was great..Lots of beautiful wild birds..I probably killed more pheasants in those 3 years out there than I have killed in NY in my entire life.

  27. It would be best if you could shoot at 300-400 yards to avoid any surprises. I was lucky for many years when I was doing out of state hunting trips every couple of years, because a friend of mine had a 300 yard range behind his barn, complete with a marble table for a benchrest, and he allowed me to use it anytime I wanted. Unfortunately, he sold the place a few months ago. My local club has a 200 yard range, and that suffices for my needs these days. If I really wanted to shoot at ranges up to 400 yards I have several friends with hayfields where I could set up long range targets. Back when I was hunting out west, Northern Canada and Alaska, I sighted my .280 4 inches high at 100..That put me +4" at 200, -4" at 300 and -12" at 400. These figures were obtained from shooting actual groups at these ranges, not trajectory tables.

  29. Everything in this state and this country is political. Ignore the politics and you ignore the reality. Dismiss the politics and you concede your voice. Stifle the discussion of politics and you will eventually lose everything this site is about. Awareness is only painful to a closed mind, but it's essential to our future. *The use of "You" and "Your" are not directed to any specific person. If the symptoms of a reality check last more than four hours, you're welcome.

  34. This 300WBY is in a tupperware Blaser R93 stock, around mid 7 lbs sans sling and ammo. So far the only animal I have taken with it.....180 gr TSX broke offside shoulder I've owned a number of 30 cal magnums....300RUM,300Win Mag,300H&H, and this WBY. I like them, good overall performance on 300-700lb class animals that I like to hunt and at distance if required.

  36. Sometimes it's a "need to control others" as you say, and sometimes it's a flat-out 'superiority complex'. A lot of people walk into a situation and say, "That's not the way I do it, so you're wrong."

  42. My house sits on land that my great grandfather owned and farmed. I did not know this until I bought the house and the title search turned it up. Never met him as he passed when my grandfather was real young and the farm was sold off after my grandfather joined the military. Apparently he, my great grandfather was a big bird hunter (both great grand dads were, actually). After sale, the land became a pheasant preserve in the 50s/60s and then was resold out. There is a very very small population of naturally occurring pheasants here now decades later - I've confirmed with the DEC this is the case. I only see them 2-3x a year. I was fortunate enough to take one a couple falls ago. Pretty good experience. I won't take another, but it was an interesting tie that binds.

  44. This is my GSP, Daisy's first year hunting. My uncle wanted to go to a preserve to get her some experience (I mostly grouse hunt with her) so we did that this fall. Bought 5 birds, watched one of our birds fly from over the knoll and off the property, and still ended up with 6. The rest of the pictures are stocked pheasants, my girl did awesome getting on them and we had a lot of fun. We even managed a couple woodcock too! Enjoy

  46. It's a private website visited voluntarily. It's not censorship if the site doesn't allow it. The site doesn't allow swearing. That's censorship. This is my preface to "the first amendment". This is the only site I've ever been on that allows political posts to the level that we have them. While some are entertaining and create a good debate, the shear volume have started to drown out the actual hunting part of this site. They are not filtered like some have been lead to believe, they show up in everyone's feed either online or via tapatalk. Sure, I don't have to click them and mostly I don't. But I feel ashamed sometimes to be a part of such fear mongering and ignorant hate. I don't believe it does anything to further the site and promote hunting or attract new members. I personally have taken time away because of the level it gets too. I always come back because I enjoy the hunting discussions. A few topics a week wouldn't hurt anyone, or even one topic dedicated to all things political that can be several hundred pages long. who cares, it's just one thread. but several an hour just goes to far. I can visit any of the thousands of other political forums on the internet if I wanted to talk about Muslims and Hillary Clinton.
