Although I held the door for little old ladies (music reference) at Tim Horton's this morning, I did another deed of greater importance later in the morning. I took a ride down to Canadice to retrieve trail cameras and hunt for sheds. I travel Middle Road all the time year round and pick up lots of trash when I have the time. There has been a TV in the ditch that I have been eye balling for 6 months. Some SOB tossed it late last summer IIRC and nobody else picked it up. Granted, it was rolled probably 25-30 feet down the bank and heavy as all get out. Today was the day that I had the time, gloves and right boots on my feet to get r done. Now the Town Of Amherst will get it........they have a drop off at the highway dept. I'll swing by some day this week and pitch it. In the mean time, if anybody wants it, holler. Did I mention it WAS heavy?10 points

I've had quite a "trail cam" season since last fall. I got my first real bear video, multiple (including another today) bobcat videos and today...............my first fisher video. I took a screen shot with my phone for upload here since uploading video is painful with my DSL. If I get time later, maybe I'll load the video. Here's what you get now..........8 points

Great to see some fisher enthusiasm. Here are a couple of shots of 2 different animals from the bone yard. The distance from the camera may exaggerate the size different but one seems almost obese while the other is slender. This is northern Otsego County. I added one more photo from the same spot that is not a fisher.8 points

Obama goes to Cuba on a diplomatic trip and takes the wife, kids, and Mother-in-law. What exactly is that doing for the country? Nothing like taking your family traveling all over the world at tax payers expense.6 points

Closing today. My Dad did a final walk of the land yesterday and ran into the neighbor who doesn't hunt, but isn't against it. He told my Dad there is a resident bear, my Dad figured the guy was full of it. But then the guy pulled out pictures of it in the backyard. Would be cool to get a bear in Putnam County, I would guess only a few have ever been taken in Putnam. He also showed my Dad some pics of coyotes, a bobcat, and some small bucks.6 points

My seven yr old and I have logged some miles. We started back in Jan at our local non hunting park. We had transisioned from the brushy field into the hardwoods. We always spread out while walking and im always way ahead as he is easally distrcted. Anyways im way ahead and i hear him yell dad i found a deer, keeps repeating it as im walikng back. I walk up to him not seeing anything and say where, he points right infront of me, wow sweet find! Not sure what happened to him but my son was super exited, the next morning he said he dreamed about it. Last sunday morning he said he wanted to shed hunt behind great great grams house. We took a quick walk and he's dying to find a shed on his own. So I'm walking thru some brush and I see one, I call him over telling him this looks like a good spot ( I want him to find it) I sent him past it like for time, each walking right by it, finally I say stop and look around, he didn't find it first but non the less happy. This am he wanted my wife to tag along at the park. She has never really even looked before but she found one. Not long after I heard my son make a excited noise and see him bend over and pick up his first on his own horn, a shinny 2pt and boy was he excited. I had a goose egg. I cant get this to post pic between each story so they are in order of story, except the first two are reversed.6 points

They are a favorite of mine, any animal that does in Porcupines and eats them is a friend of myself and my dogs. I wish there were a lot more of them around. Al5 points

I had this one come for a visit last fall and was lucky enough to snap a few pics, I have seen a few now and always enjoy seeing them. This one couldn't figure me out and circled the base of the tree as I squeaked at it.4 points

Like I mentioned above, the Town Of Amherst will take them at their Highway Dept. They'll also take propane tanks, computers, monitors and concrete. The taxes are high enough here that they have to take them!3 points

OK. Well, this is posted in the "New York Hunting Regions 'Region 2' ". So, perhaps I am wrong, but that section of this site is about "Hunting" in region 2. Not about politics in Region 2. I guess time will tell if the new candidates are for hunting or against it. At this point in time, it's about loosing 2 politicians, not about hunting.3 points

Although it was a bit foggy that day, I thought this was an interesting picture I caught on my trail cam.2 points

I too think it's a great idea. I would like to see this happen in the Rochester area. I've been "Burb" (suburban) hunting two years and have my own set of rules I adhere to. My arrangement with the land owners is an attempt to reduce population because of deer damage and deer/vehicle accidents. So "Doe only" I'm in small open 1 acre back yards of $400 and $600 thousand dollar homes. So "Bow or Crossbow only" and establish permission from all neighbors. Other non-field hunting rules apply as well. Like: Exhaust all efforts to recover broadheads. No one wants a hidden razor blade in their backyard. There are also many "Don't shoot" situations: Don't shoot if an unleashed dog is near. Try not to let children or non hunters experience a harvest that could be unsightly. And more. I also share harvest with landowners.2 points

I was in Ireland last week, the country is gearing up for the big anniversary. It's all over Dublin. I stopped in at the GPO, general post office, to see the memorial. Very moving.2 points

The common theme of the answers I have received seem to be to definitely follow the path I originally noted and get an actual compound bow. That was the main answer I was seeking an opinion on. I wasn't sure if it was worth starting with the less expensive "long bow" style beginner series or just hop right into a modern bow. Advantage / disadvantage of either direction. My gut was leaning towards what you all confirmed. Thank you! Now for some more research.....2 points

Al, as a veteran of MANY quill pulling sessions, I would heartily agree with that.. Mostly it involved coon hounds, but we had an Airedale who was a family pet and she always had to try to KILL the damn things..2 points

Maine Beer company. This brewery continues to impress me. So far everything I have had has been way above average. Very refined, simple and almost elegant. MO, pale ale. It's excellent.2 points

The way this year has been going, I wasn't sure I'd find a 3'rd antler on the season. Today I introduced 3 new faces to the bone pile! Nothing to write home about, but the 2 for 1 freshie set sure was a welcome sight to see! ...and another oldie trampled into the earth.2 points

No, I don't think he did. It didn't take long for this thread to be about doves and lead in gut-piles leading to eagles being killed from lead. Looks like a cooperative attempt to get what you want. Some of us made very factual points to the first post, and then mike got twisted and wanted to either delete the thread or start a new one because he didn't like how this was going. It wasn't going his way. He even posted how dove hunters are not really on his side.2 points

First off one brow tine is broken so reality it's a nine, but in MY book it's a TEN. Work schedule has prevented me from hunting NYS so far this year, last year I passed on a 6 but I did get to shoot big coyote. Got this guy Sunday morning in Monmouth County, NJ on a horse farm my FIL owns. I passed on many 6's and 8's and even saw bigger 10's but this 10 presented me with a shot. The rack does have some character with a forked G2 and near the end of each main beam are Bot Fly holes which are pretty neat.1 point

That's what you saw? The officer that ran in front of his truck? You really think he steered that truck at the officer? Not to try and avoid hitting the roadblock head on Hurting everyone in the truck. I can't believe you think this guy is that evil. He's the father of 11 children. Nothing this guy has done says that he wanted to harm anyone. On the other hand, the governments actions show they clearly wanted to bring harm to him. Why wouldn't the FBI just serve the arrest warrant at the sheriffs office the group was going to meet? Obviously, the sherrif isn't going to get in the way of a federal warrant.1 point

The 7600 has a very strong action but I would back off a gr or 2, be safe and and work your way up. Your empty fired cases will tell you what you need to know. Go for the load that that does not show high pressure and that shoots the best, believe me a Deer hit with one of those bullets going from 2700 fps to 2900 fps will not know the difference. Al1 point

This was a very hard earned and unexpected find and it couldn't have happened to a better person. My beautiful wife had the honor of unearthing this very rare (for our neck of the woods) button. We also found some other great homesite finds. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk1 point

you want a bow that is adjustable and easy to repeat form. not concerned about speed/performance or being too light of a draw weight. bows with an adjustable rotating module for draw length are great. otherwise you're buying modules often and then a new bow when the cam is at its max draw length. also a really nice hard back wall is great. helps them with muscle memory to repeat anchor points and keep good form. another thing release aids are often too long. spend extra to get one with a buckle for consistency and nylon web strap to the release head that can be shortened way up and let out as they grow. big targets and focus on hitting it to build their confidence. as they get older and have shot a little they might be inclined to develop bad habits. once this happens start giving them less arrows even down to one. they can shoot that one as many times as they want but it will put emphasis on making each shot count as they won't want to walk back and forth to the target for nothing. all this work well for us adults too.1 point

You have done a good job of explaining why I should be dead or seriously debilitated by all these years of chonking on lead shot, but have failed to answer why we are not. Maybe I can expect that I and all of my hunter acquaintances can expect to be seeing severe neurological symptoms of lead poisoning any day now, because so far none of it has shown up yet. 72 years of exposure so far has not done us in yet, but maybe 73 is the magic number....eh? Oh, and why are you assuming that country kids were not finding any lead based paints in those old farm-houses? Our old farm-house had layers upon layers of old nasty paint on every window and door jamb and I will guarantee that every layer was lead based paint. Perhaps we should have been laced with higher lead levels, but that does not mean that it had anything to do with eating large quantities of wild game that had been killed with lead shot. That simply shows how easy it is to get faulty studies (accidentally or purposefully) when you misinterpret causes and effects.1 point
