  1. For those that don't know what Chimney Bluffs is, it's a small state park about 40 miles east of Rochester , along Lake Ontario. I recommend a visit and hike along the bluffs, followed by a stop at Sodus Point, for a couple beers and a bite to eat along the bay. That's what we did .

  4. had a blast Wednesday after I got to camp, went and checked a local public hunting property and saw a strutter with a couple hens. ended up working on him for 5 hours moving set ups 7 different times to finally break down the hen and got him into 20 yards only to let him walk since it was only a 2 year old. after letting him walk off and clear the area I eased out and headed to a different farm, watched 1 good bird and a satellite gobbler work their way into the woods an hour before dark. I was parked and walking in by 3 am. heard one gobble off in the distance while it was still dark i figured it to be around 4:45 am. the moon finally sank behind the ridge as daylight arrived and not a peep out of either gobbler. the crows had been calling for a while and it was now really light and still not a peep, I had to get up and make something happen. I eased up on top and down a mowed path towards a meadow but just had that feeling that I needed to back off and back up around the bend and get across the path into the woods. I have learned to trust my instincts. I am now in the woods but its really noisy dry, I scratch along about 40 yards and stop right next to a large oak tree, turkey sign is clearly evident as well as the remnants of a bumper mast crop last fall. I ease the burville bomber out and give a few clucks and soft yelps,,,,GGGOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBBLLLE that about blew my hat off. they were close 80 yards or less. I hit the base of the tree and made a scratching sequence as I cleared a spot at my feet and they hammered that. I give them a few soft clucks, purrs and yelps and it sounds like they are in the meadow, why they would want to walk through soaking wet grass and not through the woods is beyond me. guns up eyes searching as I see a head pop up over the little rise from the meadow, a hen, she walks right to me and starts feeding, clucking and purring, even though I have watched turkeys feeding for hundreds of hours I am still amazed that they can swallow acorns whole, the hen is 5 yards from me and now the gobblers are hammering and definitely in the woods. the hen walks out behind me clucking and purring now I can make final adjustments on gun location. just in time as they have not gobbled in a few minutes and they step out from behind a huge oak tree at 15 yards. the problem was I was on the satellite gobbler not the shooter and being that close there was no way to get on him and have the time to make a precise shot since the pattern is really small at that range. I had to let them stand there for probably close to 3 minutes until they started clucking, then they started getting nervous since they couldn't see the hen that had been talking, they turned and started walking away as the shooter walked behind a tree I moved the gun to the right about 4 inches but they were still side by side and I didn't want to kill them both. finally the satellite walked behind a tree and now at 25 yards I eased the safety off and as he stretched up as if taking one last look for the hen I took the shot. Tag 1 filled shortly after 6 am. 10 1/4" paintbrush beard both spurs broken 1 1/8" and 1" a whopping 15 lbs.

  7. I hunted Arcade this morning. Worked a bird for thirty minutes.....he was probably 125 yards or so away, JUST over the edge and I was hesitant to get closer. He finally went what seemed like 150 yards further up the ridge and that afforded me the opportunity to move in. im not sure what happened........I wasn't THAT close that he should have heard me but the woods are especially dry right now there and he clammed up. Probably 5 minutes later he gobbled way down the valley. I crow called and he'd gobble every time. He refused my hen calls and last I heard him he'd crossed the hardtop road and was a good 600 yards away. Good times!!

  23. No I don't own a place, I stay with my friend who lives in Canadice. Lots of times I just drive down first thing in the morning for hunting then stay a night or three. For spring gobbler I need to be up and out of bed by 3:00am and be on the road by 3:30 to make it by 5am. If I hunt Arcade, I get up at 3:30 to leave by 4-4:10am. Wow what a luxury I can sleep in 30 minutes. Come fall hunting seasons, things get much better even though I have to deal with daylight savings.

  28. Look up one night this weekend! Mars Is Ready For Its Close-Up: Red Planet Easy To Spot This Weekend http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/05/20/478865020/mars-is-ready-for-its-close-up-red-planet-easy-to-spot-this-weekend Sometimes astronomy can be challenging, but spotting Mars this weekend should be a breeze. Step 1: Head outside right after sunset and look toward the southeastern sky. Step 2: Find the full moon. (So far, so good, right?) Step 3: Look up and to the right, and find what looks like a bright red star. That's Mars, our planetary neighbor — getting up close and personal.

  35. Lets see,I know I have talked about hunting goals and wishes. Shown some huge racked deer for our area and shot some nice deer over the years...I do not remember saying I hunt to kill the biggest deer in the woods...I have never and most likely, will never have a deer mounted. Not to say if I went on a special elk, moose or bear hunt those wouldn't be. I set many different goals for myself and yes getting the next biggest deer or the next unusual deer is part of that...but I do not hold a tag and not use it if one doesn't come along. I will use it on some thing that I know is at least 2 1/2 if possible. I went after an older swamp buck...and I have regretted the taste of it since. That will always be in my mind when seeing an older buck ...for I've shot younger rutty buck in the past and NEVER had that happen before. I'm pretty sure I will never fall into the category you think most all hunters do. Hunting for me is really everything I do leading up to the actual hunt...as far as I'm concerned, think it naive if you wish, if I managed to get "Monster buck " on my land and on my cameras during day light....well than I have already been a successful hunter. It's only luck that would put him there in season and in front of where I happen to be sitting. Then even luck has to be perfect..for I've had that as well..and had to watch as a doe led them away or they decided to bed down out of range and not respond to calls. Just to get up and walk the opposite way. Still a successful hunt because no one can take those experiences away from me. Nor can they judge as to just how "big" an experience it was. Lots of things make the "biggest trophy hunt" in a year. To me the size of a rack is down the list a ways.

  36. My best friend has been buying ,fixing up and selling honda big reds for the last couple years , he has an inventory of 15 , some of them are for parts and the rest will get the treatment and sold . He makes a good amount of money that he uses for more garage equipment/tools.

  37. I don't think you can.........but don't bet big money on it. They can be VERY dangerous although I survived 25+ years riding one. In 1986 I bought a new Honda Big Red, she was a grand machine and to this day it is owned by a fellow in Naples, NY. I had some great times on it but also some damned close calls. Make sure your son isn't riding like a wild man (yea sure, like he's really going top listen to dad!) or he'll end up in trouble. That said, what'd he buy and can I come over and take a spin??

  38. I believe it is targeting purchases. I don't think the thought is limiting sales. They would be just fine with all of us selling everything we had, preferably out of state or country

  40. I recently sold a few guns through a local shop that listed them on Gunbroker.com, I got more then I was asking for them....even after the auction fee and the gunshot taking their cut, something to consider especially if you have some rare or collectible ones to get rid of.

  41. A private individual can (I'll be doing it tomorrow, as I already stated) ship any long gun they want as long as it's going to an FFL. All you need is a copy of the FFL's license in your possession. USPS Priority Mai is what I use. IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE SHIPPED BY AN FFL!!!!!
